Potentially—but a VPS advertised at around ₹500 a month is not, by itself, proof that it can keep a YouTube stream running continuously. It may work if the server can sustain your stream’s outbound bitrate, the plan’s traffic allowance covers a full month, and your playback setup recovers from interruptions. Relaying a compatible, already-encoded video is also a different workload from transcoding it on the server. YouTube’s encoder setup explains how to connect a stream; it does not certify a VPS or guarantee 24/7 service.

What has to be true for a ₹500 VPS to work?

A VPS can run software that sends prerecorded video or a playlist to YouTube as a live stream. The monthly price is only one part of the decision: check the traffic cap, sustained network performance, workload, and recovery behavior before relying on it around the clock.

  • Enough monthly transfer: a constant stream uses hundreds of gigabytes per month, and a higher bitrate can approach a low-cost plan’s cap.
  • Enough sustained outbound capacity: a port-speed figure is not proof of the throughput your stream will receive continuously or of a reliable route to YouTube.
  • A workload the VPS can handle: relaying an already-encoded file generally differs from converting video in real time. The cited YouTube setup guidance does not specify VPS CPU or memory requirements.
  • Operational recovery: the stream may need to be restarted if the process, server, or connection fails. A low-cost single VPS can be a single point of failure.
  • Eligible, compliant content: YouTube account rules, content policies, monetization policies, and rights requirements apply whether the video is prerecorded or live.

In short, treat a seller’s plan details as claims to verify, not as a performance test. No independent 24/7 YouTube-streaming benchmark is established for the example plans below.

monthly decimal bytes ≈ bitrate (megabits/second) × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8

The results below are arithmetic estimates, not YouTube usage statistics. Protocol overhead, retransmissions, reconnects, and any additional outputs can increase actual traffic.

Constant stream bitrate Estimated transfer over 30 days
2.5 Mbps About 810,000 MB, or 0.81 decimal TB
6 Mbps About 1,944,000 MB, or 1.94 decimal TB

YouTube’s streaming guidance recommends keeping available upload capacity above the total streaming bitrate and leaving 20% headroom. A stated port speed is an interface limit, not a guarantee of sustained throughput. Check the provider’s traffic-accounting rules and test the actual route and target bitrate.

What do example plans near ₹500 include?

These are provider-advertised specifications, not independent verification of performance. Confirm the current price and terms at checkout.

Provider and advertised plan Listed specifications What to verify
Purvaco VPS Entry: ₹500/month plus 18% GST 1 vCPU, 2 GB ECC RAM, 25 GB NVMe storage, 2 TB bandwidth, 1 Gbps port, and one IPv4 address Whether the transfer allowance counts outbound traffic, and the provider’s overage, fair-use, and sustained-use terms
VyomCloud plan: ₹560/month 2 vCPU cores, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB storage, 1 TB traffic, and a listed 100 Mbps bandwidth figure How traffic is counted, whether the listed bandwidth can be sustained, and the applicable billing and overage terms

At the estimated 2.5 Mbps rate, 0.81 TB is below both advertised traffic allowances. At 6 Mbps, 1.94 TB is close to the 2 TB example and exceeds the 1 TB example. Do not plan to run exactly at a cap: leave room for overhead and confirm what happens when the allowance is reached. The figures above are vendor listings, not evidence that either plan will deliver a stable stream.

How to set up a VPS stream without assuming it will stay live

The following workflow applies to a do-it-yourself setup. You will need a verified YouTube channel that is permitted to livestream, a compatible video source, and software on the VPS that can send the source to YouTube. Exact software settings depend on the encoder and file; do not assume that the VPS has enough resources for transcoding without testing it.

  1. Check the channel first. YouTube says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. Confirm that livestreaming is available for the account before buying or configuring a server.
  2. Choose a relay or transcode workflow. A relay sends an already-encoded, compatible file without converting it. Transcoding converts or changes the video in real time and can require more CPU. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance does not specify VPS sizing, so test the actual workload rather than assuming a low vCPU count is sufficient.
  3. Confirm the plan’s network and traffic terms. Compare the intended bitrate with available sustained outbound capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and calculate monthly transfer using the formula above. Ask whether traffic limits include outbound data, how overages are charged, and whether long-running use has restrictions.
  4. Connect the encoder to YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, use the server URL and stream key provided for the broadcast in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or include it in shared commands, screenshots, or logs. The connection workflow does not guarantee server uptime.
  5. Test before relying on the stream. Start a representative stream and monitor the video and audio, encoder CPU and memory, network traffic, reconnects, and YouTube stream health. YouTube advises setting up ahead of time, previewing the stream, monitoring quality, and testing failover.
  6. Plan for interruption and recovery. Decide how you will detect a stopped process, server restart, or dropped connection and restart playback. A single VPS does not eliminate a single point of failure; do not interpret a provider’s uptime statement as a guarantee for your specific broadcast.

Will YouTube archive a 24-hour stream?

YouTube’s encoder setup guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not say that a 24/7 broadcast will be preserved as one complete replay, so do not depend on a single all-day stream being available as a full archive. If replay access matters, use separate shorter sessions or keep your source files independently, and verify YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive.

Copyright and monetization still apply to prerecorded streams

Clear the rights to video and audio

YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for use of the live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights. Clear the video and audio rights for the territories and uses you intend before broadcasting; owning a file or finding it online does not establish those rights.

Live delivery does not make repetitive content original

YouTube’s Partner Program monetization policy includes live streams in its use of “video.” In a clarification dated July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and said repetitive or mass-produced low-value content is ineligible under its expectation of original and authentic material. Reviewers may assess a channel’s overall theme, most-viewed and newest videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. A continuous loop with little original value can therefore put monetization at risk; making it live does not make it original.
