Possibly—but only if the licenses for the specific tracks permit YouTube livestreaming and any archived replay, in the territories where you plan to broadcast. A playlist is only a way to group music, and “royalty-free” by itself does not establish those permissions. Even with a valid license, YouTube may interrupt a stream unless the rights owner has added your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
What “royalty-free” does—and does not—mean
“Royalty-free” does not automatically mean free to broadcast, free of restrictions, or cleared for every platform and use. The relevant terms are the license for each track and the rights it grants. YouTube requires livestreamers to have all necessary rights for the live content, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. YouTube’s livestream terms also cover archived content.
That means a license limited to background music in a particular type of video may not cover a continuous radio-style broadcast. Nor does permission for the initial live transmission necessarily include keeping the replay available afterward. Check the actual license, not the playlist name or the catalog’s marketing label.
What to verify in each track’s license
Before putting tracks on a YouTube radio playlist, confirm that the license clearly covers each intended use. If the wording is unclear, ask the provider or rights owner for written confirmation. YouTube says it cannot provide legal guidance, so seek qualified legal advice if you need an interpretation for a commercial or high-risk use.

- Livestreaming: Does the grant expressly permit broadcasting the track live on YouTube, including a continuous or radio-style stream?
- Archived replay: May you keep the stream’s recording available after the broadcast ends?
- Territories: Does the license cover the countries where viewers may watch, or is it limited to specific regions?
- Monetization: If you intend to run ads or otherwise monetize the channel, does the license permit that use?
- Rights covered: Does permission cover both the sound recording and the underlying musical composition? These can involve different rightsholders, such as a recording owner or label on one side and publishers or performing-rights organizations on the other. YouTube’s copyright guidance explains the distinction.
- Attribution and other conditions: Are credits, notices, usage limits or other conditions required? Follow them as written.
- Content ID: Will the rights owner add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the licensed tracks?
No particular outside music catalog can be assumed to grant these permissions. Its terms may differ by track, plan, territory and use.
Why a licensed stream can still be interrupted
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. A match may trigger a warning, a placeholder image, an interruption or termination. Having a license does not guarantee that the automated system will recognize your permission.

If you licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance specifically advises streamers to request this from the content owner. Confirm which channel and tracks are covered, and keep the owner’s written confirmation and your license records. Allowlisting can help prevent a licensed stream from being interrupted by a match, but it does not replace the license itself.

YouTube Audio Library
YouTube describes Audio Library tracks as copyright-safe and says tracks downloaded from it will not be claimed by a rights holder through Content ID. Some tracks are Creative Commons and require attribution, so check the individual track’s terms and provide the requested credit. YouTube’s assurance is specific to its Audio Library; it says it is not responsible for problems with royalty-free music obtained from outside libraries. See YouTube’s Audio Library guidance.
Creator Music
Do not assume Creator Music clears a live radio stream. YouTube says Creator Music does not currently support licensing for live content; its usage details limit licensed music to long-form videos and exclude livestreams and Shorts. The help page describes availability for U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators. Availability and rules can change, so check the current information in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s Creator Music help page before relying on it.
A practical clearance checklist before going live
- Identify every track and version. Match the playlist entries to the specific recordings you will broadcast; do not assume a license for one version covers another.
- Read the license for each track. Verify YouTube livestream use, replay retention, territories, monetization and any attribution or other conditions.
- Check recording and composition coverage. If the license does not make clear which rights are included, ask the provider or relevant rightsholders.
- Arrange Content ID allowlisting. Contact the rights owner in advance, provide your channel details and ask for confirmation that the licensed music will not trigger claims against that channel.
- Keep records and follow conditions. Save license versions, receipts, correspondence and required credits. Recheck the terms when you add tracks or change the stream’s use.
- Verify the replay separately. Make sure the license permits the archived recording to remain available, and check the resulting replay for restrictions or claims.
If you want the licensed playlist to run 24/7
Once the music is cleared, you still need a way to keep the YouTube broadcast running. For an independently managed stream, plan for the computer, streaming software and internet connection to remain active, and monitor the broadcast for interruptions. Whichever method you choose, it does not change the music-clearance requirements above.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. The uploaded video is streamed as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and every slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots. StreamNeo does not grant music rights, so clear your playlist separately before broadcasting.
