Not because it runs for 24 hours. YouTube’s published rules say a channel that receives three copyright strikes within 90 days is subject to termination. A strike follows a copyright removal request that YouTube reviews and considers apparently valid; the duration of a broadcast alone does not determine how many strikes it receives. YouTube’s published guidance does not set a different strike threshold for channels in India.

What “three strikes” means on YouTube

YouTube treats copyright strikes separately from Community Guidelines strikes. A copyright strike means content was removed after YouTube reviewed a copyright removal request and considered it apparently valid. YouTube says channels that get three copyright strikes in 90 days are subject to termination. That is the platform’s published rule, not a separate India-specific threshold. A Content ID claim is not itself a copyright strike. A claim may affect a video without resulting in a strike; a strike follows a copyright removal request. YouTube also says a video can have multiple claims or takedown requests but only one copyright strike at a time. YouTube Help: Strikes FAQ

Can one continuous broadcast produce three strikes?

The fact that a stream runs continuously for a day, a week, or longer does not automatically make it three strikes. The relevant issue is whether copyright removal requests are made and result in strikes—not the broadcast’s runtime. YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify a blanket maximum number of distinct valid removal requests that could arise from one continuous broadcast, so it is not possible to say that one broadcast can only ever lead to one strike.

Keep the distinctions clear: multiple Content ID claims do not equal multiple strikes, and multiple takedown requests against a video do not, by themselves, mean multiple strikes at once. YouTube says a video can receive only one copyright strike at a time. Each enforcement event should be checked in the channel’s notices to determine whether it is a claim, a removal request, or an issued strike.

What can happen while the 24/7 stream is live?

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop streaming the matched content. If the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A strike issued during an active live stream can also restrict live-streaming access. A licence may not prevent an interruption

If you have permission to use third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, including when the licence restricts the content to particular territories. Having a licence and being allowlisted are distinct matters; a licence alone does not guarantee that YouTube’s live detection will let the stream continue uninterrupted.

What to check after a copyright notice

  1. Identify the notice type. Check whether YouTube reports a Content ID claim, a copyright removal request, or an issued copyright strike. A claim is not a strike by itself.
  2. Check whether the stream or its archived recording is involved. YouTube’s live-stream rules cover detection and interruptions during an active broadcast; review the specific notice to understand what content was affected.
  3. Count active copyright strikes within the 90-day period. Do not count Content ID claims as strikes, and distinguish copyright strikes from Community Guidelines strikes.
  4. Look for a scheduled removal request. YouTube says a scheduled copyright removal request gives the uploader seven days to take the specified action to avoid removal and a strike. Follow the deadline and instructions in the notice. YouTube Help: About Copyright Removal Requests

How YouTube says a copyright strike can be resolved

YouTube lists three routes: complete Copyright School and wait for the 90-day expiry period; ask the claimant to retract the removal request; or submit a counter notification if the content was removed by mistake or qualifies for a copyright exception. Deleting the content after a strike has been issued does not resolve that strike. A counter notification is a formal step, so use it only when you have a valid basis. What this means for creators in India

YouTube’s India-locale Strikes FAQ confirms that copyright and Community Guidelines strikes are separate systems and that a valid copyright removal request can result in a strike even on a first violation. The published policy pages do not state a different copyright-strike threshold for India. This is a summary of YouTube’s platform rules, not a decision about how Indian law or a court order applies to a particular dispute. YouTube Help: Strikes FAQ
