Yes, potentially. A channel can earn memberships while running an always-on playlist stream if it is eligible for memberships and its content complies with YouTube’s monetization policies. But YouTube does not guarantee that a 24/7 playlist stream—or the channel running it—will be approved. Membership eligibility and content review are separate checks.
What a channel needs to offer memberships
YouTube describes channel memberships as recurring monthly payments that members make in exchange for perks, such as badges and emoji. They are fan-funding features, not donations or crowdfunding.
YouTube’s “How to earn money on YouTube” guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, lists these thresholds for the lower YouTube Partner Program (YPP) tier that includes memberships:

- At least 500 subscribers.
- At least three public uploads in the last 90 days.
- Either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the last 365 days, or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days.
Meeting those thresholds alone is not enough. The creator must be accepted into YPP, be at least 18, live in a country or region where memberships are available, and accept the applicable Commerce Product Module (or, where still applicable, the Commerce Product Addendum). YouTube also lists restrictions related to Made for Kids settings and music channels under SRAV. Feature availability and requirements can vary by location and change over time, so check the current YouTube eligibility guidance and the channel’s Earn tab in Studio before making plans.

Does YouTube allow a 24/7 playlist stream to earn memberships?
YouTube’s published policy does not give a blanket yes or no for always-on playlist streams. Its monetization policies apply to live streams, and YouTube reviews the channel as a whole. Reviewers may consider the channel’s theme, most-viewed and newest videos, content responsible for the most watch time, metadata, and About section.
The important question is not simply whether a stream runs continuously. It is whether the channel’s actual content meets YouTube’s originality and authenticity standards and offers viewers meaningful value. A stream built from the creator’s own varied programming may present a different case from a loop of copied material, a minimally changed compilation, or interchangeable videos repeated at scale. That distinction applies YouTube’s general policies; it is not a promise that a particular format will pass review.

YouTube’s reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement. Having permission to use someone else’s video or music does not, by itself, make the channel eligible for monetization. Content that is borrowed and minimally changed may still fail the reused-content standard even when the creator has permission.

Likewise, passing monetization review is not a copyright clearance. You need the rights required to use every video, image, recording, and music track in the stream. Check permissions and applicable rights independently, and make sure the stream adds substantial original commentary, modification, educational value, or entertainment value where it uses others’ material.
Assess your stream before applying
Use these questions to identify risks. They are practical checks based on YouTube’s published policy framework, not a guarantee of an approval decision.

- Is the programming yours? Identify who created each video and whether you hold the necessary rights.
- If material is reused, is it meaningfully transformed? Permission alone does not establish monetization eligibility; assess whether there is significant original commentary, substantive modification, or added educational or entertainment value.
- Does the playlist offer more than repetition? Consider whether its videos are varied and distinct or generic, interchangeable, and repeated with little change.
- What would a reviewer see across the channel? Review the stream alongside the channel’s newest and most-viewed uploads, high-watch-time content, metadata, theme, and About section.
- Does the channel qualify for the feature? Confirm YPP acceptance, current thresholds, location availability, and the other membership conditions in Studio.
Membership income is different from live-stream ad revenue
Memberships are recurring payments from members for perks. Ads are a separate revenue source: eligible monetized live streams can use pre-roll and display ads, and creators can configure mid-rolls, but an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. A continuous stream does not itself establish membership eligibility or guarantee members.
YouTube reported that channels enabling live automatic mid-roll ads had over 20% average uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not. This was an average across 207 countries measured in January 2024, as described on YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance. It concerns advertising revenue per hour, not membership revenue, subscriber growth, or a forecast for an individual channel.
