Riot’s public guidance does not say whether a VALORANT hardware ban follows a CPU after it is sold. It explains computer-level Vanguard restrictions and system-security requirements, but neither establishes that a restriction transfers with an individual processor—or that a used CPU is guaranteed to be unaffected.
What Riot says about Vanguard restrictions
Riot Games Support says Vanguard may restrict a computer when it appears to facilitate cheating, including because of outdated Windows or particular system settings. The specific VAN: RESTRICTION message identifies the applicable settings and troubleshooting steps. Riot’s guide also refers to motherboard and CPU identification in technical troubleshooting, but those references do not establish that an enforcement record is attached to a CPU or follows it to a new owner. Read Riot’s Vanguard Restrictions guidance.
How a restriction differs from a security requirement
Riot separately lists security features that may be required depending on a computer’s configuration: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, Memory Integrity (HVCI/VBS), and IOMMU. These are system-security requirements, not a published rule about whether a sanction transfers when a component changes owners. See Riot’s Vanguard system requirements.
What to do if you see a restriction
- Read the exact error. If VALORANT displays a VAN: RESTRICTION message, use the checklist and settings instructions in that message.
- Ask Riot Support about enforcement or a used component. Provide the exact error and explain the situation rather than assuming the restriction is tied to a particular part.
- Do not treat hardware changes as a proven fix. Riot’s cited guidance does not recommend replacing a CPU, changing BIOS settings, or resetting a system to alter enforcement.
What this means when buying a used CPU
The available Riot guidance does not resolve whether a previous owner’s VALORANT hardware ban can affect a buyer who installs that CPU in another computer. The documented references to CPUs and motherboards appear in technical troubleshooting; they do not identify which components or identifiers are used for enforcement or explain what happens after resale. So neither a definite “yes, the ban transfers” nor a guarantee that the component is safe is supported by these sources.
