Not necessarily. YouTube says first-time live-stream access may take up to 24 hours to activate after you enable it. Once access is active, an eligible channel can start an encoder stream immediately. A 24/7 broadcast also has an important catch: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
What “immediately” means for a new channel
Creating a channel does not guarantee that its first livestream can start at once. You must enable live streaming and meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. After YouTube enables the feature, a stream can go live instantly using an encoder. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
That timing applies to access activation, not a stated waiting period for every later broadcast. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that a particular prerecorded 24/7 setup will run without interruption.
Check channel eligibility before planning the launch
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires a verified channel for live streaming.
- Check restrictions. The channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Meet the age requirement. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old.

Choose an encoder and prepare a reliable connection
YouTube supports both software encoders, which run on a computer, and standalone hardware encoders. Hardware is optional; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events, not as a condition for a new channel to go live. The official guidance does not certify a specific encoder or configuration for uninterrupted 24/7 prerecorded playback.
- Choose software or hardware based on your production needs and ability to operate continuously.
- Make sure available upload bandwidth exceeds the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends keeping a 20% margin above the required bitrate.
- Plan for network disruptions and consider an independent local recording if you need a backup.
These are operational precautions, not a guarantee that a stream will never drop. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth and encoder recommendations.

Do not rely on YouTube to archive the full 24-hour broadcast
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That makes a single continuous 24/7 broadcast unsuitable as the only copy of a program you need to preserve. Keep a local recording if retaining the complete material matters, and check the archive after shorter streams rather than assuming it will be available. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

You are responsible for having the rights needed to livestream everything in the program, including music. You must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable laws. A video being prerecorded, or already available online, does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it. Review the livestream terms and conditions and live-streaming requirements before scheduling a continuous channel.
