Yes, a new YouTube channel in India can grow while running a 24/7 live stream, but there is no reliable evidence that staying live around the clock causes growth. Live viewing is substantial across YouTube, yet that platform-wide audience is not a forecast for a new channel. A continuous stream is best treated as an experiment: give viewers a reason to join and return, measure what happens, and do not count on one long broadcast to create a usable archive or qualify all its watch time.
What a 24/7 stream can—and cannot—do for a new channel
YouTube reported that over 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. In a separate announcement, YouTube said more than 600 million logged-in viewers watched live content, including archives, each day on average in August 2026. Those figures show that live video has a large platform-wide audience; neither establishes how many people will find a particular new channel or whether a continuous stream will turn them into regular viewers.
For a new creator, the useful question is not simply how long the stream stays online. It is whether the format gives people something worthwhile to discover, watch, and revisit. A scheduled session with a clear theme, genuine interaction, or a well-developed programme may offer a stronger reason to return than an interchangeable loop. Treat uninterrupted broadcasting as one format to test—not as a growth shortcut or a promise of subscribers, impressions, or monetization.
YouTube also reported that channels in India earning seven figures or more in INR grew by over 20% year over year, based on YouTube internal data cited in its July 7, 2026 announcement. That is a broad creator-economy statistic, not typical income, not evidence that 24/7 streams caused the growth, and not a prediction for a new channel. In a May 2025 Ipsos survey reported by YouTube, 92% of surveyed Indian YouTube creators said the platform helps them foster a deep community with their audience. This measures creator opinion, not audience growth or earnings.

Choose a format for discovery and viewer experience
Vertical live streams can appear in the Shorts feed
YouTube says vertical live streams are discoverable in the Shorts feed, including by people who are not already subscribers. Its feature comparison says horizontal live streams are not discoverable there. This gives vertical video access to a different discovery surface, but it does not guarantee impressions, clicks, watch time, or subscribers. See YouTube’s guide to vertical live streams.
Live Control Room can deliver horizontal and vertical versions at once. Viewers in the Shorts feed see the vertical version, while other viewers see the horizontal one; the two versions share a stream URL and chat. Before using this option, check whether the content works in a tall frame: wide scenes, edge-placed text, or details outside the center may be cropped or hard to read. Configure the vertical layout where needed and test it before making it your main presentation.

Use a format that suits the material
Vertical is worth considering when a close-up, portrait-oriented scene, or mobile-first presentation remains clear in a narrow frame. A wide presentation may work better in horizontal format unless you can arrange a separate, legible vertical composition. Choose for the viewer’s experience, not on the assumption that a format alone will make the channel grow.

YouTube’s September 2025 Live update also described AI-powered highlights that can turn compelling livestream moments into Shorts. Feature access may depend on rollout and channel availability; review any generated clips before sharing them. A highlight can give a useful moment another format, but it is not a substitute for making the stream itself worth watching.

Will a 24-hour stream be archived, and do its hours count?
Do not rely on one continuous broadcast for a complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. “May not” is a caution, not a guaranteed cutoff: do not assume that a 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete public video. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup. Read YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams.
If having a replay matters, test a shorter broadcast first, then check in YouTube Studio whether it is visible and archived. Keep a local recording where appropriate. A backup can protect your own copy, but it does not make an unarchived livestream count as an archived YouTube stream for watch-hour purposes.

Only archived livestreams can contribute qualified public watch hours
YouTube’s Partner Programme explainer includes archived livestreams among eligible sources of public watch hours and excludes live streams that are not archived. So, do not assume that all hours watched during a continuous broadcast count toward YouTube Partner Programme eligibility. The channel must meet the applicable requirements and pass review; being live for long periods does not establish eligibility. See YouTube’s Partner Programme eligibility information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to make a continuous stream more viable
- Define a viewer benefit. Decide what someone will get from joining: for example, a genuinely varied programme, a useful recurring session, or an experience that makes sense to leave on. Avoid relying on duration as the value proposition.
- Pick the frame deliberately. Use vertical when the scene reads well on a phone and Shorts-feed discovery is relevant. Use horizontal for wide compositions, or configure and test dual-format delivery if both presentations make sense.
- Start with a shorter test. Confirm that the stream looks and sounds right, viewers can interact as intended, and the replay appears in Studio. A shorter test also avoids building the plan around an archive assumption YouTube does not guarantee for broadcasts over 12 hours.
- Plan for originality and meaningful variation. Give recurring broadcasts distinct substance or value. YouTube’s monetization policy says content should be original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced material without meaningful creative, educational, or other viewer value can be ineligible. A loop is not automatically disallowed, but duration and watch time do not compensate for material that feels interchangeable. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
- Assess the result against a specific goal. Decide what you are testing—such as whether viewers return, participate, or discover the channel through vertical live—and review the relevant channel data after the test. Do not interpret a platform-wide audience figure as evidence that your own experiment has worked.
- Check current Partner Programme requirements in Studio and official guidance. YouTube lists policy compliance, residence in an available country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, two-step verification, and access to advanced features among requirements. Meeting applicable thresholds does not guarantee acceptance because channels are reviewed.
India-specific live features and eligibility
On July 7, 2026, YouTube announced Gifts for India. Eligible creators can enable Gifts in Studio and accept the Virtual Items Module. Viewers buy Jewels in bundles and send Gifts; creators receive Rubies that represent earnings. This is not automatic for new channels and does not mean a stream will earn. YouTube’s announcement says enabling Gifts removes access to Super Stickers on live streams, so check current feature controls and eligibility in Studio before deciding. Keep a 24/7 stream running: DIY or cloud-hosted
A continuous stream needs a source that remains available, a stable connection, and a way to recover if the broadcast stops. You can run it yourself from a computer with a supported streaming method, but that means keeping the device and connection available and handling interruptions. YouTube supports several ways to go live; the right setup depends on whether you are using a webcam, encoder, mobile device, or another supported method. Start with YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide and test your chosen workflow before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
