A new channel in India can livestream from a computer without first reaching a subscriber threshold, provided it meets YouTube’s general eligibility requirements. The 50-subscriber minimum applies to livestreaming from the YouTube mobile app, not to every way of going live.
What a new channel needs before going live
- Be at least 16 years old. YouTube’s general live-streaming eligibility requires the streamer to be 16 or older. (YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming)
- Verify the channel. YouTube account verification uses a phone number and a code delivered by text or voice call. YouTube says a phone number can be linked to no more than two channels per year. (YouTube Help: Verify your YouTube account)
- Enable live streaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do this before you plan to stream. (YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming; YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile)
- Have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. A recent restriction can make the channel ineligible. (YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming)
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming as different ways to go live. Choose the method first: the subscriber requirement depends on it.
Choose how you want to stream
| Method | Best suited to | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile app | Quick updates and mobile-first streams | Requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and a supported device. First activation may take up to 24 hours. With fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit viewers and set the archived stream to private by default. (YouTube Help) |
| Webcam | A straightforward stream from a computer | Requires a computer with a webcam. (YouTube Help) |
| Encoder | Gameplay, screen sharing, overlays, or a production using external audio/video inputs | An encoder can be software or standalone hardware. YouTube describes using external audio and video hardware, including microphones. (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder) |
| Console | Streaming directly from a modern game console | YouTube directs creators to their console maker’s instructions. (YouTube Help) |
For webcam streaming, use a computer that already has a webcam or add a USB webcam if it does not. You do not need to buy a webcam to meet YouTube’s channel eligibility rules. For an encoder setup, a microphone or other external equipment is optional and depends on the production you want.
YouTube Help’s “YouTube live streaming tips” puts the equipment question simply: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” (YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips)

How to verify an India-based channel
YouTube also describes a phone-verification flow for India-based channels through YouTube Studio. Once completed, a “phone verified” label appears on the channel’s About page and is visible to users in India. YouTube says the label was added to comply with the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. This India-specific label is not a purchase and does not replace the separate live-streaming eligibility checks.
What to do if “Go Live” is unavailable
- Check feature access: In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and review which features are enabled. (YouTube Help: Learn about feature access for YouTube Creators)
- Confirm verification and activation: Verify the channel and enable live streaming. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours. (YouTube Help; YouTube Help)
- Check the method-specific requirement: If you are using the mobile app, confirm that the channel has at least 50 subscribers and that your device is supported. The 50-subscriber threshold is for mobile streaming, not the computer methods. (YouTube Help)
- Review age and channel status: Make sure the streamer is at least 16 and the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. (YouTube Help)
- If the verification code does not arrive: YouTube notes that some operators may not support Google’s texts or calls. Try the other delivery method, or use another operator. (YouTube Help)
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube livestream, StreamNeo is an optional alternative to leaving a computer running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streaming to YouTube, not a live camera feed. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
