Yes—sometimes, once a livestream has ended and been archived. YouTube can apply a Content ID claim with a monetize policy, allowing the claimed recording to remain viewable while ads generate revenue for the rights holder, sometimes with revenue shared with the uploader. That does not guarantee an active 24/7 stream will stay online: YouTube scans live broadcasts and may warn, interrupt, or terminate one that continues to show third-party content.

What can happen to a 24/7 stream?

The stream’s duration does not give it a special status. The key distinction is whether the broadcast is still live or has ended and become an archived video.

Situation What YouTube’s guidance says
Live broadcast in progress YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may issue a warning, replace the picture, interrupt, or terminate the stream if the matched content continues. A later Content ID claim on the archive is a separate matter. YouTube’s live-stream guidance
Completed stream that is archived YouTube says Content ID claims are made after the live stream ends if the creator chooses to archive it. Depending on the rights holder’s policy, the claim may monetize, track, or block the video; policies may vary by territory. YouTube’s claim guidance

A monetize policy can therefore mean that a claimed archive remains viewable while the claimant receives ad revenue, or revenue is shared with the uploader where applicable. It is not a promise that every rights holder will choose monetization, that every video will remain available everywhere, or that a live broadcast will be allowed to continue.

Claim, live interruption, and takedown are different

Content ID claim

Content ID is YouTube’s matching and rights-management system. A claim ordinarily affects the matched video and usually does not itself affect the channel or account. Depending on the claimant’s policy, the video can be monetized, tracked, or blocked; a monetize or track policy generally leaves it viewable under YouTube’s claim guidance. YouTube: What is a claim?

Live-stream enforcement

Live scanning can prompt warnings and interruption or termination while the broadcast is underway. A license does not necessarily prevent this: YouTube advises broadcasters using licensed third-party material to ask the rights holder to allowlist the channel. Without that allowlisting, a stream may still be interrupted. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams

Copyright removal request and strike

A formal copyright removal request is a separate process from Content ID matching. If YouTube accepts the request and removes the video, a copyright strike is applied. Do not treat a Content ID claim as if it were automatically a takedown, or assume that an active stream’s interruption means the archive has received a claim. YouTube: What is a claim?

Who can use real-time Content ID matching on live streams?

YouTube offers a separate live Content ID matching feature to certain Content Manager partners—not as a general option for every claimant. Eligibility is limited to partners with a proven Content ID operating record, eligible time-sensitive material, and a high likelihood of unauthorized restreaming. The material must be exclusively owned worldwide and contain no third-party content. YouTube: Use Content ID matching on live streams

This feature is not simply an ordinary archive claim made earlier. Matching can warn a streamer; if the match continues, YouTube may replace the stream with a static image and no sound and then terminate it. YouTube says this process creates no claims, and matched copies cannot be tracked or monetized as ordinary copies. The partner can configure a monetize or block match policy, but that does not remove the warnings or the possibility of termination. YouTube’s live matching guidance

What happens to revenue if the uploader disputes a claim?

Ads may continue while a claim is disputed, but YouTube holds the resulting revenue separately until the dispute is resolved and then pays it to the appropriate party. Timing depends on when the uploader disputes:

  • Dispute within five days of the claim: revenue is held starting from the first day the claim was placed.
  • Dispute after five days: revenue is held starting on the date the dispute is filed.

YouTube’s help page describes analogous timing for appeals. These are revenue-holding rules during the process, not a guarantee about the dispute’s outcome. YouTube: Monetization during copyright claim disputes

Rights still matter, even when a claimant might monetize

A possible monetize policy is not permission to use someone else’s work. YouTube’s livestream terms say the broadcaster represents and warrants that they have the rights needed for live and archived content on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. A rights holder’s territorial ownership, asset settings, and YouTube policy compliance can affect what happens; YouTube says claim policies may differ by geography. If you have permission for material used in a live broadcast, ask the rights holder whether they can allowlist your channel, and keep evidence of the permission. If a claim or removal request concerns rights you believe you hold, review the notice in YouTube Studio and use the appropriate dispute or response process. A dispute is a formal assertion, not a way to test whether a claimant might prefer monetization.

Keeping an authorized 24/7 YouTube stream running

For a continuous stream, use only material you have the rights to broadcast and archive, or obtain the necessary permissions and channel allowlisting where relevant. A cloud streaming service can keep uploaded video playing to YouTube without leaving a home computer on; it cannot grant copyright rights or prevent YouTube from enforcing its policies.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It does not provide rights to music or other material, and it cannot guarantee that YouTube will permit a stream to remain online. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
