Technically, yes—if the JioFiber connection can sustain the stream’s upload bitrate with room to spare. But whether a church’s particular JioFiber plan permits continuous public broadcasting is a separate question. Jio’s postpaid-plan FAQ says its unlimited high-speed plans are “for home use only” and identifies commercial use as a reason it may discontinue service. The reviewed wording does not say whether a church sermon stream counts as commercial use. Ask Jio about the exact plan and intended use, preferably in writing, before relying on it.
Will JioFiber allow a church livestream?
Do not assume that a connection capable of carrying a stream is also approved for that use under the subscription terms. Jio’s JioFiber plans FAQ is specifically for postpaid plans and says the unlimited high-speed plans are for home use only; it also says Jio may discontinue service for commercial use. That FAQ does not define whether a church’s religious broadcast is commercial use, nor does it establish that every JioFiber plan has identical terms.

Jio’s 2025 telecom charter says speeds are guaranteed up to the ISP node and that a fair usage limit and/or commercial usage policy applies on certain high-speed plans. Jio says those policies are available on its website and may change. Confirm the current terms for the exact plan and account with Jio; seek a written answer describing the church’s continuous public YouTube use.
How much upload speed does YouTube Live need?
Judge the connection by sustained outbound upload capacity, not its advertised or measured download speed alone. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the bitrate in use. Its guidance also cautions that shared networks and connectivity interruptions can affect a stream. Jio’s statement that speeds are guaranteed up to the ISP node does not guarantee the speed available at a church’s encoder throughout the day.

The bitrate figures are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not results from a test of a JioFiber line or a guarantee that a specific connection can maintain them. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and guidance on internet bandwidth.
Measure the actual connection before going live
- Run an internet speed test that reports upload capacity at the church’s installation. Test from the same network location and, ideally, the same wired connection the encoder will use.
- Repeat at different times, including the hours when the stream will normally run. A single result cannot establish sustained capacity across a day.
- Compare the results with the total outbound bitrate, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Account for other network use and, if using a backup stream, its bitrate too.
- Test with representative movement and audio, preview the feed in YouTube Live Control Room, and monitor stream health during the test broadcast.
A wired connection between the encoder and router, plus an independent backup internet path if practical, can reduce avoidable reliability risks. No particular JioFiber line or church setup has been tested here.
What encoder settings should the church use?
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS ingest and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video codecs. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For H.264, the recommended video bitrates in the table above are 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. Use a bitrate the measured upload connection can sustain with headroom; choosing a higher resolution or bitrate does not make an unstable line reliable.

- Set the encoder’s output bitrate to fit the available sustained upload, leaving about 20% headroom.
- Use a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Use constant bitrate encoding and an ingest protocol and codec supported by YouTube’s current guidance.
- Preview the stream and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators before and during the public broadcast.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour live stream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive one continuous 24-hour session. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. The duration boundary is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be saved.
Keep an independent local recording if the church needs a dependable sermon archive. If a YouTube archive is important, plan separate, shorter live sessions rather than one uninterrupted day-long broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance recommends a local recording backup.

Check copyright and permissions for the whole broadcast
YouTube’s live-stream terms make the content provider responsible for having the necessary rights to the material in a live stream, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; detected material or a relevant copyright strike can lead to the picture being replaced, the stream being interrupted, or termination.
Before broadcasting, check rights for worship songs, backing tracks, slides, video clips, and other third-party material. Consider both the live transmission and any recording or archive: permission for one use should not be assumed to cover the other. Read YouTube’s terms and its copyright guidance for live streams.
