Possibly—but neither a live stream nor an active Content ID claim guarantees that you will earn ad revenue. Your channel must qualify for YouTube monetization, ads must actually be served, and the rights holder’s policy on claimed music can affect who receives revenue. You also need permission to use the music; monetization and copyright clearance are separate questions.

Three separate questions determine what happens

For a 24/7 music stream, keep these issues distinct: whether your channel is eligible to monetize, whether YouTube serves ads, and what rights apply to the music and any Content ID claim. A “yes” to one does not settle the others.

1. Is the channel eligible for monetization?

YouTube says creators must join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and accept the applicable Watch Page Monetization Module to earn ad and YouTube Premium revenue on eligible long-form and live Watch Page content. Program availability and eligibility thresholds depend on the applicable rules and location. Check YouTube’s current YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility guidance and Watch Page Monetization Module terms.

2. Will YouTube show ads?

Even when a live stream is eligible and monetization is enabled, an ad impression is not guaranteed. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are turned on when live monetization is enabled. Mid-roll ads can be automatic or manually placed, but YouTube’s ad systems decide whether to serve an ad in an eligible slot. The live monetization controls are described in YouTube’s guidance for managing live stream monetization.

3. Who may receive money associated with claimed music?

If a rights holder claims music for monetization, revenue that might otherwise be due to the creator may instead be payable to the claimant. The outcome depends on the specific claim and its policy; the appearance of ads alone does not establish that the channel owner receives the revenue. YouTube’s rights-clearance guidance describes revenue adjustments for long-form videos and explicitly limits those adjustments to long-form videos, not live streams. Do not use that page to assume a particular live-stream revenue split.

A music license, a Content ID claim, and live matching are not the same thing

Permission to use music

You need the necessary rights to the music, visuals, and other third-party material in a monetized stream. YouTube’s monetization policies say content with uncleared third-party material is not eligible for monetization. A license should expressly cover live streaming, monetized use, the relevant territories, and YouTube. Having a license does not, by itself, establish that a Content ID reference is eligible or guarantee that a specific claim will be released.

A standard Content ID claim on music in your stream

A music rights holder may use a standard Content ID claim to apply a policy to matching material in another channel’s video or stream. Check the particular claim rather than assuming that all claims have the same effect: its claimant, claimed asset, territories, and policy matter. YouTube’s Content ID overview explains the system and claim policies. A claim is not proof that you have permission to use the music, nor does it alone tell you whether your channel is eligible for YPP revenue.

YouTube’s separate live-stream matching tool

YouTube also documents a partner tool for finding copies of a rights holder’s own live stream. That is not the same as a music claim against another creator’s stream: the matching tool does not create claims on matching streams and requires global rights and exclusive ownership. YouTube’s documentation states, “Copies of your live stream can’t be tracked or monetised.” Read the specific limits in YouTube’s live-stream Content ID matching guidance.

Creator Music does not license live streams

Do not assume a Creator Music track is cleared for a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube’s Creator Music usage rules exclude live streams; the tracks are not a live-stream licensing shortcut.

Check a claim and your stream before relying on revenue

  1. Confirm channel eligibility. In YouTube Studio, check your Earn area for YPP status and confirm that you have accepted the Watch Page Monetization Module. Program rules and availability may vary by location.
  2. Check monetization for the live stream. Review the stream’s monetization settings in YouTube Studio. Confirm whether mid-rolls are automatic or manually placed; enabling ads does not ensure that an ad will be served.
  3. Inspect the exact claim. In YouTube Studio, open the claim details and note the claimant, claimed asset, territories, and policy—whether it blocks, tracks, or monetizes. The policy and outcome are specific to that claim; they cannot be inferred from the fact that a stream has a claim.
  4. Verify the license. Check that it covers live streaming, monetized use, the territories where the stream is available, and YouTube. If a claim conflicts with a license, use the appropriate YouTube claim process and provide accurate supporting documentation; do not dispute a claim without a valid basis.
  5. Clear every part of the broadcast. Check not only the music but also visuals and other third-party material. Permission for one track does not clear unrelated material in the stream.
  6. Review originality separately. Music clearance does not decide whether the channel meets YouTube’s channel monetization policies. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams; its July 2025 clarification says repetitive or mass-produced content falls under its inauthentic-content policy. That identifies a review risk, not a rule that every 24/7 stream is automatically ineligible.

Does a continuous or looped stream create an originality risk?

It can raise a separate question under channel monetization policies. YouTube’s July 2025 clarification classifies repetitive or mass-produced content as inauthentic content, and the policies apply to live streams. The cited policy does not establish that every 24/7 or looped stream is automatically ineligible. Consider the channel’s content as a whole, including whether its programming is meaningfully original rather than repetitive or mass-produced, and check YouTube’s current policy before relying on monetization.
