Likely yes, if your channel is eligible for memberships. YouTube describes channel memberships as monthly payments for member perks, separately from Super Chat and Super Stickers, which depend on live chat. Its published membership requirements do not say chat must be enabled. But YouTube’s guidance does not explicitly guarantee that a single continuous 24/7 livestream with chat fully disabled will earn membership revenue, so treat this as a policy-based inference, not a specific guarantee.
Memberships and live chat are separate features
YouTube describes channel memberships as recurring monthly payments in exchange for members-only perks. Super Chat and Super Stickers are different: viewers buy highlighted messages or images in live chat. YouTube lists both types of features among livestream earning options, but only the Supers are inherently tied to chat. YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies and livestream monetization guidance therefore support the conclusion that disabling chat should affect chat-based purchases, not automatically turn off memberships.
This distinction does not prove that every 24/7 stream can earn memberships with chat disabled. YouTube’s published membership eligibility information does not list live chat as a condition, but the official guidance reviewed does not expressly address this exact continuous-stream configuration. Check your channel’s current eligibility and stream settings in YouTube Studio.
What chat being off changes for members
Some membership interactions during a livestream happen in chat. YouTube says a new member joining during a live stream can send a message there, and membership milestone messages are also live-chat interactions. If chat is unavailable, viewers may lose those interaction opportunities in that stream; the documentation reviewed does not say this disables the membership itself. YouTube’s membership benefits guidance describes these interactions.

Do not confuse turning chat off with setting chat to members-only. Members-only chat still allows members to post while other viewers can watch the stream. YouTube documents that option for public livestreams in its channel membership management guidance.
Check whether your channel can offer memberships
As listed on YouTube’s current YouTube Partner Program eligibility page accessed in 2026, the channel-membership threshold is 500 subscribers, at least three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. YouTube also lists requirements including being at least 18, residing in a country where memberships are available, accepting the Commerce Product Module or earlier Commerce Product Addendum, and meeting channel and content restrictions.

- Set live chat separately: In the livestream’s settings, decide whether chat is on, off, or members-only. Members-only chat is not the same as disabling memberships.
- Verify the stream and feature status: Before relying on a 24/7 broadcast, confirm the channel’s membership status and the specific live settings in Studio. YouTube’s published pages do not specifically certify the chat-off, continuous-stream combination.
What to expect from a 24/7 stream
With chat off, memberships may still be available to eligible viewers as a channel-level feature, while Super Chat and Super Stickers cannot provide their usual live-chat interactions. Membership revenue depends on viewer decisions and the perks offered; YouTube’s documentation reviewed here does not provide a revenue estimate or establish how disabling chat affects membership conversions. Keep the distinction clear in your planning: feature eligibility is not the same as a promise of earnings, and the absence of chat may change how viewers interact with the stream.
