Potentially—but only if a replay is available to viewers and it contains a usable affiliate link or eligible YouTube Shopping product tag. The catch is that YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single 24/7 broadcast is not a dependable way to create one intact replay.

How affiliate commission from a replay can work

A replay can provide two distinct routes to affiliate commission. Neither guarantees that a viewer will buy, that a purchase will be attributed, or that a particular creator, product, or merchant qualifies.

Route What the viewer uses What must be in place Important limits
External affiliate link A tracked merchant URL in a clickable location, such as the long-form replay description or comments. The replay is available; the location supports clickable external links; advanced features are enabled; and the destination and promotion comply with YouTube policy and the affiliate program’s terms. YouTube explains clickable link locations and requirements. YouTube does not guarantee merchant acceptance, link attribution, a commission rate, or a sale. Affiliate links remain subject to YouTube’s external links policy and the relevant affiliate program’s terms.
YouTube Shopping affiliate tag A native product tag shown with eligible live content or existing content. The creator and product must be eligible, the product must participate, and the tagging control must be available. Check eligibility and available controls in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s live Shopping tips. Commission depends on a qualifying purchase and applicable program terms. The rate shown when tagging is an estimate; the rate on the purchase date determines payout, and merchants may change rates. See YouTube’s Shopping commission guidance.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 stream as a replay?

Do not assume it will. YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours “may not be captured at all.” The wording is not a guarantee either way: an under-12-hour stream is not guaranteed to archive, and a longer stream is not guaranteed to fail. But a 24/7 broadcast has a substantial archive risk. Check YouTube’s current archive live streams guidance and channel controls before relying on a replay.

YouTube’s livestream terms describe archiving as an option, not a promise, and live and archived content remain subject to applicable terms and rights requirements. Breaking a continuous broadcast into shorter streams or keeping a local recording may be operational options to investigate, but they do not establish that YouTube will create one dependable replay with the same reach, links, or Shopping tags.

Can you put affiliate links in the replay description?

Yes, if the replay exists and the link placement and account features permit it. YouTube lists URLs in long-form video descriptions and comments among clickable locations; advanced features must be enabled for clickable external links. Verify the current setting and link behavior in your account using YouTube’s sharing links guidance.

YouTube states that “Affiliate content doesn’t violate YouTube’s Terms of Use.” That is not blanket approval of every destination or promotion: excessive affiliate posting on accounts dedicated to it may violate spam policies, and external links must comply with the external links policy. Follow the merchant’s affiliate terms as well, and make any disclosures required by applicable rules and program terms.

Can you tag products on a live replay?

YouTube Shopping is separate from adding an external affiliate URL. Eligible creators can tag participating products in live content, and YouTube recommends tagging relevant products on both new and existing content. Its live Shopping tips advise creators to be transparent that they may earn commission. Whether a particular replay can be tagged, and which controls are available, depends on creator and product eligibility; check Studio rather than assuming every archive supports tags.

YouTube reports an increase of over 25% in watch time for videos that help people shop on YouTube, based on YouTube Internal Data, 2024, comparing 2023 watch time across VOD, Shorts, and live. That is YouTube’s internal-data claim about watch time, not an independent measurement or evidence of a particular affiliate return.

Affiliate commission is not replay ad revenue

A replay may separately earn watch-page advertising or Premium revenue if the channel is monetized and has accepted the required Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube Analytics can break out ad revenue from live streams and live replays; that reporting is not an affiliate commission report. Affiliate earnings still depend on a valid link or eligible product tag and an attributed qualifying purchase. See YouTube’s live stream monetization guidance and its Shopping commission guidance.

Practical checks before relying on replay income

  • Confirm that YouTube actually saved the stream and that viewers can access the replay.
  • For an external link, check that the description or comment link is clickable, advanced features are enabled, and the URL and promotion meet YouTube and affiliate-program rules.
  • For YouTube Shopping, verify creator eligibility, product participation, and the available tagging controls in Studio; check the current rate and terms there.
  • Do not forecast earnings from watch time, stream duration, or the presence of a link alone. No sale, attribution, rate, or replay archive is guaranteed by these platform features.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a YouTube channel to keep prerecorded videos live continuously, StreamNeo is one option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. This does not remove YouTube’s archive uncertainty: do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will become one intact replay for affiliate links or product tags. See StreamNeo for details. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
