Yes—but Google Drive stores the video; it does not send a live broadcast to YouTube by itself. To use a Drive-hosted video in a 24/7 YouTube stream, make the file available to a player or encoder, loop or schedule playback, and send the encoder’s live output to YouTube. The official documentation reviewed describes Drive downloads and YouTube encoder ingestion, not a native direct Drive-to-YouTube live connection.
How the Drive-to-YouTube workflow works
Think of the setup as three separate jobs: storage, playback, and broadcast. Google Drive holds the source file. A player or application retrieves and plays it, repeating it or moving through a playlist. An encoder sends that continuous audio and video to YouTube’s live ingestion endpoint using a stream key. YouTube’s documentation describes this encoder-based broadcast model and even uses a 24/7 channel feed as an example; it does not guarantee uninterrupted operation for an individual setup.
- Store and authorize the source. Keep the video in Drive and confirm the account or application running playback has permission to download or read it. Google’s Drive API treats video files as binary content and supports authenticated downloads; browser download is also available when the user has permission.
- Retrieve and play the file. Download or stage it on the computer or service running the encoder, or use an authorized application that can retrieve it. Configure a media player or encoder workflow to loop the video or play a continuous playlist.
- Send the output to YouTube. In YouTube’s live setup, obtain the ingestion endpoint and stream key, then enter them in the encoder. A Drive sharing link is a file reference, not the live feed YouTube expects.
- Preview and monitor. Test the entire chain in YouTube Live Control Room before relying on it. Check the preview, audio, video, and stream health, and keep monitoring after launch.
Google’s Drive download documentation explains authorized file access at Drive API: Download and export files. YouTube explains the encoder-ingestion model in Live Streaming API: Streams and Live Streaming API: Broadcasts.
Choose how the encoder gets the Drive video
Download or stage the file locally
This is often the simpler approach when you control the computer running the encoder: download the authorized Drive file, then play the local copy. It avoids requiring the player to interpret a Drive sharing URL during playback. Make sure the file is fully available before starting the loop, and check that the computer has enough storage for the video and any other files in the playlist.

Retrieve it through an authenticated application
An application can fetch the file through Drive access, but the exact method depends on that application and the file’s permissions. Do not assume that every encoder can play a private Drive link directly, or that a link which works in a browser will work as a media source. Google documents authenticated downloads; it does not certify a particular encoder’s ability to retrieve and loop a particular Drive file. Test with the actual account, file, and playback software.
The right approach depends on whether the file is private, which formats your player supports, the resolution you plan to stream, and how much setup and monitoring you can manage. YouTube does not require a dedicated hardware encoder for a pre-recorded loop. Its guidance recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but that is not a requirement for this workflow.

Configure a YouTube-compatible stream
YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS ingest, with RTMPS recommended; supported video codecs include H.264, H.265, and AV1, and supported audio codecs include AAC and MP3. The listed maximum frame rate is 60 fps. Use constant bitrate (CBR), and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Check YouTube’s settings page for the recommended bitrate for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than assuming one bitrate fits every stream.

Leave network capacity for more than the stream’s nominal bitrate: YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. A connection that barely meets the video bitrate may not withstand other network use or disruption. See YouTube encoder settings and Troubleshoot your live stream for configuration and connectivity guidance.

Having a video in Drive does not establish that you have the rights to broadcast it. Use content you own or are authorized to stream, including music and other material embedded in the video. A continuous pre-recorded stream still needs to comply with YouTube’s applicable copyright and platform rules. Separately, do not assume that an uninterrupted stream or repeated footage automatically qualifies a channel for monetization; eligibility and policy decisions are YouTube’s.
Plan for failures in a 24/7 setup
“24/7” describes the intended broadcast schedule, not a guarantee that every device, connection, source file, or YouTube stream will stay uninterrupted. A loop depends on Drive access and working playback; the broadcast depends on the encoder, network, and YouTube ingest. A revoked permission or expired authentication can prevent retrieval; a computer sleep or restart, player or encoder crash, or network interruption can stop playback or transmission. These are practical failure points inherent in the workflow, not a claim that any particular setup will fail.

- Drive file will not load: Check the signed-in account, file permissions, and download access. If a sharing URL fails in the player, download the file through an authorized route or use an application that supports the required Drive access.
- Video plays but does not repeat: Check the player’s loop or playlist behavior, then observe a complete end-to-start transition during a test. YouTube receives the encoder’s output; it does not make the source file loop for you.
- YouTube receives no signal: Recheck the selected broadcast, ingestion endpoint, and stream key in the encoder. Confirm the encoder is running and that the source is producing both audio and video.
- Stream health is poor or the feed disconnects: Check the actual upload capacity, retain YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth margin, and look for local network interruptions. Use Live Control Room and the encoder’s status indicators to identify whether the source, connection, or ingest is at fault.
- The stream stops when unattended: Review computer sleep and restart behavior, encoder and player recovery options, Drive authentication, and how you will learn about a failure. A continuous channel needs a way to notice problems and restore playback or transmission.
YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream quality, audio, and video. Its preparation tips are at YouTube live streaming tips.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not leave a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud handles playback, looping, and recovery if YouTube drops the stream; nothing has to stay on at home. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
