Potentially—but neither a bhajan’s devotional nature nor a music license guarantees ad revenue or a claim-free stream. Your channel must meet YouTube’s monetization policies, and you need commercial rights for the specific recording and performance you use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If you archive the stream, a Content ID claim can be made after it ends.

Three separate checks determine the outcome

Copyright clearance, live-stream protection, and channel monetization eligibility are related, but they are not the same question. A creator can have permission to use a recording and still face a live interruption or fail a channel-level monetization review.

  1. Do you have the necessary commercial rights? Confirm rights for the actual sound recording and performance, as well as the underlying composition where relevant.
  2. Can the stream run without a live interruption? YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. For licensed music, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
  3. Does the channel qualify for monetization? YouTube’s channel monetization policies separately require original, non-repetitious content. Permission to use music does not establish that the channel meets those policies.

YouTube’s guidance states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” See YouTube Help’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Why “bhajan” does not mean copyright-free

A devotional song’s composition and a particular recording of it are distinct rights questions. Even if a composition is old, a modern arrangement, performance, or sound recording may have separate rights. YouTube’s monetization guidance says commercial sound recordings—including instrumental, karaoke, and live-concert recordings—are not eligible for monetization without applicable commercial-use rights. Rights holders decide how their music may be used on YouTube.

Check the exact audio you plan to use rather than relying on a song title, age, devotional purpose, or an assumption that a recording is free. YouTube explains its guidance on what kind of content creators can monetize and restrictions on claimed music.

What a license needs to cover

Before scheduling a continuous stream, read the license and confirm that it covers the way you intend to use the exact recording. A license may grant some uses without granting all of them.

  • Commercial monetization: permission must cover earning revenue from the use, if that is your plan.
  • Live use: confirm the recording may be used in a YouTube livestream.
  • Archiving: check whether keeping the stream as a video is permitted.
  • Territories and term: confirm where and for how long the permission applies.
  • Content ID allowlisting: ask the rights owner to add your channel to its allowlist for the relevant content. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption.

Keep the license and written allowlist confirmation with your channel records. The YouTube guidance describes allowlisting as a step for creators who license third-party material; it does not promise that a license or allowlist prevents every match or rights-holder action.

What happens when YouTube detects a match

If YouTube identifies third-party content during a live broadcast, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator. If the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A licensed recording can still trigger this process if the relevant channel is not allowlisted.

If you archive the livestream, Content ID claims on the archived stream are made after the broadcast ends. Depending on the rights holder’s settings, a match may block the video, monetize it for the rights holder (sometimes with revenue sharing), or track it. The outcome can differ by geography. See YouTube’s explanation of how Content ID works.

Archiving is a separate decision

Decide before going live whether you intend to keep a replay. Archiving creates a post-stream point at which Content ID may claim the completed broadcast; it does not remove the need for commercial rights or live-stream allowlisting. Review the license for both live and archived use, and consider the rights-holder outcomes that may apply in the territories where viewers watch.

Copyright permission does not guarantee YouTube ad revenue

YouTube reviews monetization at the channel level as well as applying copyright systems to individual content. Its policies require monetized content to be original and non-repetitious; reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement. A permission-cleared stream can still face a monetization review based on what the channel publishes.

On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it renamed its former “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” and clarified that it includes repetitive or mass-produced content. A 24/7 format is not, by itself, proof that a channel will pass or fail review: the actual content and channel matter. Practical pre-stream checklist

  1. Identify the exact recording and performance in your playlist; do not assess rights from the bhajan title alone.
  2. Confirm commercial, livestream, archive, territory, and term permissions in the rights documents.
  3. Ask the rights owner to Content ID-allowlist your channel for the licensed material, and keep written confirmation.
  4. Choose whether to archive the livestream and verify that the license covers that use.
  5. Review your channel’s originality and non-repetitious-content position separately from the music permissions.
  6. Do not treat a successful test or an uninterrupted broadcast as a guarantee that future streams or archived videos will be claim-free.

What cannot be determined without your recording and channel details

General YouTube guidance cannot establish whether a named bhajan recording is public domain or otherwise cleared, whether a particular license authorizes commercial monetization and archiving, whether your channel is allowlisted, or whether YouTube will approve your channel for monetization. Those answers depend on the specific recording, license, territories, archive plan, allowlist status, and the channel’s actual content. YouTube’s published guidance does not promise a claim-free outcome.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo can keep a YouTube livestream running from uploaded videos; it does not clear music rights or guarantee that a stream will avoid claims. Upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; your video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
