The deal called for $2.25 million in cash and repayment of approximately $2.0 million in Inspechtech bank loans, with closing expected within 60 days. The contemporary report did not confirm that the transaction ultimately closed.
What Camtek announced
EE Times reported on September 8, 2001, that Camtek Ltd. had signed an agreement to acquire Inspechtech Ltd., based in Carmiel, Israel. The report said the transaction was expected to be completed within 60 days; it did not provide subsequent confirmation of closing or describe any later integration. EE Times’ 2001 report is the basis for the announcement and deal details below.
What Inspechtech made
Inspechtech worked across several inspection applications, spanning printed-circuit-board and substrate production as well as semiconductor packaging processes:
- Automated optical inspection systems for the printed-circuit-board and advanced-substrate industries.
- Systems developed for wafer-dicing operations.
- A system under development for flip-chip and bumping technologies.
These areas help explain the strategic fit Camtek described, but the report does not establish that every system under development reached commercial availability.

Reported deal terms
| Item | Reported amount or timing | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Cash consideration | $2.25 million | EE Times reported this as the purchase consideration in 2001. |
| Bank loans | Approximately $2.0 million | Camtek was also to repay Inspechtech’s outstanding bank loans; the report presented this separately from the cash consideration. |
| Expected closing | Within 60 days | Expectation stated at announcement, not confirmation that closing occurred. |
The figures should not be collapsed into a definitive total purchase price: EE Times described the cash consideration and loan repayment as separate terms.
Why Camtek said it wanted Inspechtech
Camtek CEO Rafi Amit said the acquisition would give Camtek an opportunity to enter semiconductor back-end inspection. He also highlighted Inspechtech’s flip-chip bump inspection technology, which he said was needed for the high-density interconnect industry. Those statements describe Camtek’s rationale when the agreement was announced; they do not establish what technology or market access Camtek later obtained.

Inspechtech’s reported sales and customers
EE Times reported Inspechtech sales of $2.66 million in fiscal 2000, compared with $486,000 in 1999 and $466,000 in 1998. The report also named Intel, Hewlett Packard, Motorola, Infineon, Phillips, and SGS Thomson as customers. These are figures and customer names published in that 2001 report, rather than independently confirmed current information.

Camtek’s current investor overview describes the company as a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor inspection and metrology equipment. It says Camtek’s systems inspect and measure wafers across production, from front- and mid-end stages through the beginning of assembly, including post-dicing inspection and metrology. That present-day description provides context for the strategic rationale, but it does not show that Inspechtech’s particular 2001 systems or business remain available.
