If CameraFi Live says “unsupported video format,” first identify where the message appears: while loading a source in CameraFi, while the app prepares the broadcast, or after YouTube receives the stream. The available official guidance does not identify this exact message’s cause or provide a complete list of video formats CameraFi accepts. Avoid converting files or changing encoder settings on a hunch; work through the checks for the source and stage that are actually failing.
First, identify which part of the stream is failing
CameraFi Live can involve different source paths, and the right checks depend on which one you use. Note the source type and the point at which the error appears before changing settings.
- Source-loading stage: The message appears while selecting or loading a local video or other source in CameraFi.
- Broadcast-preparation stage: The source loads, but CameraFi reports an error as it prepares or starts the live stream.
- YouTube delivery stage: CameraFi starts sending, or the broadcast appears in YouTube Live Control Room, but YouTube reports a stream or connection problem.
Record the exact message and screen, source type, phone or tablet model and operating system, CameraFi Live version, whether a broadcast appears in YouTube Live Control Room, and any YouTube stream-health message. These details help distinguish source compatibility from outgoing delivery; CameraFi’s published materials do not map this exact wording to a particular cause.
If you are using an external camera
CameraFi says it supports USB UVC devices. For a DSLR or camcorder with HDMI output, its documented setup uses an HDMI-UVC capture card. These are checks for an external-camera setup, not general fixes for local videos or YouTube connection errors. See CameraFi’s support resources for its FAQ and device compatibility information.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
- Check that a USB camera is UVC-compatible and connected as its manufacturer requires.
- For an HDMI camera, confirm that the capture card converts the camera’s HDMI output to a UVC input CameraFi can use. Verify compatibility for the camera, card, phone, and app before buying or changing hardware.
- Check CameraFi’s device list for supported resolutions and frame rates, then compare it with the camera and capture-card output. The list is a compatibility reference; it does not establish a universal setting that fixes the unsupported-format message.
If CameraFi is connected to YouTube but the stream will not go through
Separate an outgoing connection problem from source-format compatibility. YouTube recommends RTMPS for YouTube Live and automatically detects encoder settings and transcodes live streams into formats for viewers. That guidance concerns the incoming broadcast; it does not specify which local video formats CameraFi accepts.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the current RTMPS URL and stream key and check that CameraFi is configured with the intended destination and key. Keep the key private.
- If YouTube reports an SSL error or connection timeout, check the URL, protocol, port, and whether the encoder supports RTMPS, following YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance.
- Use YouTube’s encoder settings guidance to review its recommendations and test the stream before a public broadcast. Do not treat an RTMPS or encoder adjustment as a verified fix for an unsupported-format message.
If you are streaming HDR, YouTube recommends H.265 over RTMP(S), or HLS if the encoder does not support that combination. This is YouTube guidance for the incoming stream, not evidence that HDR or a particular codec caused CameraFi’s error.

If your source is an incoming RTMP feed
CameraFi announced an RTMP input feature for Android beta on June 30, 2026. It receives an outside RTMP source into CameraFi; it is not RTMP output from CameraFi to YouTube. Confirm that the beta is available to you before relying on this workflow. For this incoming-source path, CameraFi advises checking that the sender and device can reach each other, RTMP URL and key details are correct, resolution and bitrate are suitable for the connection, and firewall or router settings allow the traffic. See CameraFi’s announcement and support information. Do not apply this checklist automatically to an outgoing CameraFi-to-YouTube stream.
Check the app and YouTube setup when relevant
- Update CameraFi Live: Check the applicable app store for an available update. The App Store listing for version 2.65.1 says it resolved live-streaming errors on certain YouTube accounts; it does not say that it fixes this unsupported-format message. See the CameraFi Live App Store listing.
- Confirm YouTube live streaming is enabled: This matters if YouTube will not let you create or start a broadcast, rather than when a source fails to load. CameraFi’s July 2025 setup article lists the app, a YouTube account, and enabled live streaming as prerequisites; it says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. See CameraFi’s YouTube setup guidance.
- Check channel verification only if YouTube reports a setup or authentication issue: CameraFi’s FAQ says verification is channel-specific, but does not identify it as a cause of this format error. See CameraFi’s FAQ.
Common symptoms and the next check
| What you see | What to check next | What the evidence does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Error while loading a local video | Record the source details and CameraFi version, then contact CameraFi support with the exact screen and message. | CameraFi’s published materials cited here do not provide a complete accepted-codec or container list. |
| External USB or HDMI camera fails as a source | Check UVC support, the HDMI-UVC capture-card path where applicable, and CameraFi’s resolution/FPS compatibility list. | External-camera compatibility checks do not prove that a local video or outgoing YouTube stream is the issue. |
| YouTube shows an SSL error or timeout | Check the RTMPS URL, protocol, port, and encoder support against YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance. | YouTube’s connection guidance is not a confirmed remedy for CameraFi’s unsupported-format wording. |
| Incoming RTMP source fails in CameraFi | Check reachability, RTMP details, source resolution and bitrate, and firewall/router rules; confirm beta access. | This checklist is for RTMP input to CameraFi, not CameraFi’s outgoing connection to YouTube. |
| YouTube will not allow a broadcast to start | Confirm live streaming is enabled and complete any YouTube setup or account checks it requests. | Setup requirements do not explain a source-format error by themselves. |
What to send CameraFi support if it still fails
Do not prescribe a codec conversion without knowing the source and the failing stage. Send CameraFi support the exact error text and a screenshot, the source type, device and OS, CameraFi version, when the error occurs, whether the broadcast appears in YouTube Live Control Room, and any stream-health or connection message. For an external camera or RTMP input, include the relevant camera/capture-card details or source workflow. The sources do not establish a universal conversion format for this error.
