The Tomb is a Round-Based Zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. For a steady start, use Directed Mode’s milestone objectives to learn the route, build toward Pack-a-Punch and a stronger weapon through the first ten rounds, then prepare before attempting to obtain the Staff of Ice. This guide covers navigation and early progression—not every Easter egg or the full Main Quest.
What to expect on The Tomb
The Tomb arrived with Season 02, and its Main Quest became available on January 28, 2025. The map’s Wonder Weapon is the Staff of Ice, which can slow and freeze enemies, unleash a stronger area attack, and revive a teammate with a precision restorative blast. Activision’s Season 02 announcement describes the map and weapon.

The official map guide is an orientation and early-game resource: it covers layout, the first ten rounds, Directed Mode, upgrade-station locations and preparation for the Staff ritual. It does not present itself as a complete Easter egg or Main Quest walkthrough. Read the official Tomb map guide for its in-game route and component sequence.

Directed Mode
Directed Mode gives you milestone objectives and a paced route through the map. It is a useful way to learn where to go and what to do next without having to plan the route yourself.

Standard Mode
Standard Mode offers the open-ended map experience. Use the map’s landmarks and stone maps to find points of interest, including the Mystery Box and Pack-a-Punch, while deciding your own progression.
How to get established in the first ten rounds
The official guide frames the first ten rounds as the basic progression toward Pack-a-Punch and an initial weapon upgrade. Keep improving your weapons and armor as you move through the map; the goal is to build a capable loadout before you commit to the Staff of Ice ritual.

- Check the stone maps at major points of interest to orient yourself and locate the Mystery Box or Pack-a-Punch.
- Use Dark Aether Nexus portals to shorten travel between distant areas of the map.
- Break bright purple Aether Crystals for likely Salvage or equipment drops.
- In the Dark Aether, destroy green and purple fungi as another suggested Salvage source.
Prepare before attempting the Staff of Ice
Activision’s map guide recommends upgrading a main weapon to at least Pack-a-Punch level one and Rare (blue) rarity before starting the Staff ritual. It also suggests Jugger-Nog for survivability and Speed Cola to reduce vulnerability while reloading. These are the guide’s recommendations, not guarantees of success.
The guide describes two sequences for revealing and collecting the Staff components. One uses Aetheric Lanterns to reveal wall runes; activate the runes in numerical order. The official guide contains the sequence details, so consult it in-game or alongside your run rather than treating this early-game article as a full quest walkthrough.

Hazards and things to explore
Arrow Traps fire damaging energy darts. Aetheric Lanterns can also be used to rain Aetheric fire on enemies, making them both a navigation-related quest element and a combat hazard. The map includes audio logs, documents and artifacts for players interested in its story. These features are described in Activision’s Season 02 overview.

At launch, Activision announced 5,000 XP and a unique Calling Card for players who completed The Tomb Main Quest before Directed Mode released for the map. That was a launch-window reward, not a current limited-time opportunity. The same announcement identified the X91 Ice-Pike as a Wonder Weapon skin.

The Season 03 patch notes documented fixes for several Tomb interactions, including a rare failure of the Monocle to spawn at the Shock Mimic location during the Wonder Weapon quest, zombies damaging the Staff of Ice from behind the Plinth, jittery zombie attacks on the Staff and missing sections of the Vermin Trial barrier. Those historical fixes do not establish whether every interaction is problem-free now.
