No-Cost EMI is still a financing commitment, but it is not automatically a debt trap. For an iPhone 18 Pro purchase in India, Apple says the equivalent of the EMI interest is discounted from the transaction value while you remain responsible for repaying the principal and applicable interest to your card issuer. Fees may still apply, so judge the offer by its total cost and whether the installments fit your budget.
What does No-Cost EMI mean for an iPhone 18 Pro?
Apple India lists the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB at ₹164,900 in 2026 and advertises up to six months of No-Cost EMI on eligible products from most leading banks. Availability depends on the product, card, offer and issuer terms; the monthly EMI displayed on Apple’s site is indicative, and the issuer is the authority on exact financing terms. See Apple India’s iPhone 18 Pro purchase page.
Apple describes the mechanism this way: when you select No-Cost EMI, an amount equivalent to the total EMI interest is discounted from the transaction value. You still owe the financed principal and applicable interest to the card issuer. Apple says it does not itself charge an EMI processing or convenience fee, but the issuer may charge one. That means “No-Cost” does not necessarily mean no financing-related charge of any kind.
Apple’s EMI and No Cost EMI terms say: “Your eligible card issuer is the authoritative source of this information and you are advised to contact your eligible card issuer for any further clarifications in this regard.” Use the issuer’s written quote rather than relying only on a retailer’s monthly-payment display.

Which current offers are actually available?
The terms depend on where you buy, which card you use and the promotion in force. For example, one IndiaiStore offer running September 18–December 26, 2026 describes six-month No-Cost EMI only for eligible credit-card EMI transactions from Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI Card. The same offer calls tenures longer than six months Low-Cost EMI, and says bank processing fees and GST on the interest component may apply under bank terms. These are terms of that reseller promotion, not a guarantee for Apple Store purchases or every retailer and card.
That IndiaiStore promotion also advertises up to ₹7,000 instant cashback on eligible EMI transactions with the specified cards and up to ₹10,000 exchange bonus for eligible trade-ins at participating stores. The maximums are conditional: eligibility, qualifying payment terminals, minimum transaction amounts, the assessed value of an old device and other promotion terms apply. Check the IndiaiStore offer terms before treating a discount or exchange bonus as part of your own calculation.

How to tell whether the offer is affordable
A smaller monthly installment can make a premium phone seem easier to afford, but it does not by itself show that the deal is good value. Compare the total you will pay and the obligations attached to it, not just the EMI amount.

- Ask the issuer for the financed principal and the interest over the full tenure, including how the offer discount is applied.
- Check any processing or convenience fee, GST on interest and other applicable taxes or charges.
- Confirm the total payable, installment dates, card eligibility and available card limit.
- Ask what happens to the EMI, interest and any pre-closure charge if you return or cancel the phone, or want to settle early.
- Compare the financed total with the full-payment price and any non-EMI discount you can genuinely use.
- Test the installment against your monthly budget after essential expenses and existing debt payments. Do not assume a longer tenure is better just because its monthly payment is lower.
Apple advises customers to contact the issuer about the effect of a return or cancellation on EMI, pre-closure or interest charges, and directs EMI complaints to the issuer. Keep the written offer and issuer terms until the installments are complete; promotions can change or be withdrawn.

When does No-Cost EMI become a debt risk?
The financing becomes risky for an individual buyer when the repayment obligation is hard to meet, when charges or cancellation terms were not understood, or when the purchase crowds out essential costs and existing commitments. Those are practical warning signs, not proof that every No-Cost EMI purchase is harmful. The available product and offer terms do not establish that an EMI offer inevitably damages a credit score or causes household financial harm.
The Reserve Bank of India’s credit-card directions include the statement, “EMI conversion with interest component shall not be camouflaged as zero-interest/no-cost EMI.” See the RBI credit-card directions for the applicable context. The wording is a disclosure principle; it does not establish that this particular purchase is a trap. The useful question is whether the issuer’s disclosed numbers and conditions make sense for your circumstances.
