This tutorial outlines a read-only scanner for Polymarket’s decentralized platform: Gamma discovers markets and provides metadata, while the CLOB API returns price and order-book information for a specific outcome token. The separation matters: Polymarket’s decentralized and US platforms are separately managed and their APIs and data are distinct, so these endpoints should not be assumed to cover both. Polymarket Institute’s researcher guide, dated July 24, 2026, describes this division.
How the scanner’s data flow works
A useful scanner has two stages. First, request market records from Gamma and narrow them by status, topic, dates, or other metadata. Then, for a market worth inspecting, take the selected outcome’s token ID from its Gamma record and ask CLOB for its price or order book.
- Gamma: Market discovery and context, including events, categories and tags, criteria, end dates, resolution sources, and fields such as volume or liquidity.
- CLOB: Pricing and order-book information for an outcome token, including bid-ask spread, midpoint, depth, and price history.
These measures answer different questions. Volume or liquidity fields in a market record are not substitutes for the current spread, midpoint, or visible depth in an order book. Polymarket’s researcher guide explains the separation and the relationship between Gamma records and CLOB data.
Install an API client carefully
Do not base a new scanner on the legacy py-clob-client. Its repository README says, “This repository has been archived and is no longer maintained.” It also warns that the client is no longer functional and directs users to Polymarket’s unified py-sdk. The old repository’s read-only midpoint, price, and order-book examples are historical guidance, not a dependable current installation path. See the legacy client repository.

The available official SDK material does not establish a current, verified installation command or read-only method signatures here. Check Polymarket’s unified SDK repository for its current instructions and confirm its API before writing imports or copying method calls. A read-only scanner needs no private key and should not invoke any trading operation.
Discover and filter markets with Gamma
Gamma’s market listing supports pagination with limit and offset. The Polymarket guide states a maximum limit of 500. Treat that as the maximum page size described by the guide, not as a promise that one request returns every market.

- Request a page of active market records from Gamma, using a
limitno greater than 500 and anoffsetfor the page position. - Continue with subsequent offsets until the response is empty or your scan’s chosen stopping condition is reached. Keep pagination explicit so a partial first page is not mistaken for a complete market list.
- Filter records using fields relevant to your purpose, such as active status, topic or category, end date, resolution criteria, volume, or liquidity.
- Keep the full selected record, especially its
clobTokenIds, while deciding which outcome to inspect.
Gamma’s metadata helps you judge what a market concerns and how it is intended to resolve; it does not itself answer the CLOB pricing question. The endpoint patterns and metadata role are documented in the Polymarket researcher guide.
Choose the correct outcome token
A Gamma market record’s clobTokenIds identifies the Yes and No outcome tokens. Select the token for the side you want to inspect and preserve that exact ID for the CLOB request. Do not substitute the market’s conditionId: it is a different identifier, and the price endpoint expects an outcome token ID.

This is the key join between discovery and pricing: Gamma tells the scanner which outcome token belongs to a market; CLOB uses that token ID to return data about that outcome. The distinction is described in the researcher guide.

Replace {token_id} with the selected Gamma clobTokenIds value. The example uses side=BUY; a returned price is an example response for that request, not a universal or guaranteed current market price. For a market view rather than a single price, use CLOB order-book data to examine bids, asks, spread, midpoint, and depth. CLOB also supports price-history requests using an outcome token ID. Polymarket’s guide provides endpoint examples and points to its order-book and pricing documentation for related details such as tick sizes and fees.

Interpret scan results without conflating signals
- Status and activity: Use Gamma market status to exclude records that do not match the scan’s scope.
- Topic, criteria, and resolution source: Use metadata to understand what is being predicted and how the outcome is defined; similar titles do not guarantee identical criteria.
- End date: Treat the listed date as market metadata, not as a substitute for reading the resolution terms.
- Volume or liquidity fields: These help compare market-record activity or liquidity, but they are not the same as visible order-book depth.
- Spread and midpoint: These describe the relationship between current bid and ask prices; they are not interchangeable with a traded price or a forecast of eventual resolution.
- Depth: The visible quantities at price levels show the order book, not guaranteed execution at those levels.
Plan for changing APIs and incomplete guarantees
Polymarket’s documentation and SDKs can change. The official Gamma and CLOB documentation URLs redirected to newer documentation paths when accessed for the July 24, 2026 guide, so verify endpoint details and SDK signatures against current official documentation before relying on code. The cited guide does not establish a current API rate limit, service guarantee, or guaranteed freshness interval. Build pagination and error handling deliberately, and do not describe a returned value as real-time or complete beyond what the response establishes.
