This project connects a DHT22/AM2302 temperature-and-humidity sensor and a BMP280 pressure sensor to an Arduino Mega, then sends readings over wired Ethernet to a PHP endpoint. PHP stores timestamped observations in MySQL, and a separate page displays recent readings and trends. The example is intended for a trusted local network—not internet exposure.
How the weather station works
The design separates measurement, transmission, storage, and display. The Arduino reads the sensors; an Ethernet shield sends those readings to a server on the LAN; PHP writes them to MySQL; and a browser page retrieves and formats recent records.
- Measure: The DHT22/AM2302 supplies temperature and relative humidity. The BMP280 supplies barometric pressure.
- Transmit: The Arduino Mega sends temperature, pressure, and humidity as the
t,p, andhquery parameters in an HTTP GET request toprocessincoming.php, approximately every ten minutes. - Store: The PHP endpoint records the server time using MySQL
NOW()and inserts the values into theweatherdata.mastertable. - Display: A separate
weather.phppage reads and formats records as HTML tables. The project describes this view as covering the previous three hours.
The firmware adjusts the BMP280 pressure value and labels it in kPa. That is an implementation detail of this project, not evidence that the readings are calibrated or suitable for meteorological use. See the Hackster project description and its Arduino Project Hub companion page and code for the original implementation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What the database and web page do
The MySQL table is named weatherdata.master. The project describes it as having an auto-incrementing uid, a timestamp, and temperature, pressure, and humidity fields. The PHP code uses the mysqli extension. On each accepted request, the endpoint adds an observation with server time; the display page retrieves recent rows and presents them in simple HTML tables.
The approximately ten-minute transmission interval and the three-hour display window serve different purposes: the first is how often the Arduino sends a reading; the second is the period the project presents in its web view. The optional LCD instead shows current values and short-term trends locally.

Network setup and address stability
The Arduino sketch needs to reach the server at a known LAN address. The project recommends assigning the server a static local IP address so a DHCP address change does not leave the address in the sketch pointing to the wrong device. This is a local-network convenience, not a security control.
The original article describes its own 2018 Windows environment as IIS 7.5, PHP 7.1.24, and MySQL Community 8.0.13. Those are historical details, not current setup recommendations. Choose supported software versions for your environment and verify compatibility among the web server, PHP runtime, MySQL server, and application code.

Security: keep the sample off the public internet
The project author, RagingRadish, states: “This project has completely ignored any semblance of being secure (don’t put it on the internet as is but it’s fine for your LAN) and my database optimization could probably use some work.” The PHP example accepts values through GET parameters and interpolates them into an SQL statement; a comment in the code notes that inputs should be sanitized. That sample should be treated as educational code requiring substantial security review—not as a production-ready endpoint.
- Do not expose the endpoint or database to the public internet as written.
- Before using a similar endpoint beyond a trusted LAN, review input validation, parameterized database queries, authentication, network access controls, and error handling.
- Use credentials with only the permissions the application needs, and avoid exposing database credentials or unnecessary server details.
The source warns against internet exposure but does not establish that the sample is safe against threats within a LAN. A private address alone does not make an unauthenticated, input-accepting endpoint secure.

What this project does—and does not—establish
This is one documented implementation, not a tested comparison of sensors, boards, or network approaches. It establishes a practical architecture for collecting sensor values and viewing stored readings on a local web page. It does not report accuracy tests, calibration results, reliability benchmarks, or security validation. Treat recorded values as the output of this specific build unless you independently validate the sensors and data path.
