For a budget tablet in India, start with screen size: choose a compact 8.7-inch model for portability, or a 10.95–11-inch tablet for a larger reading and video canvas. Then compare the exact RAM and storage configuration, Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, software support, and whether a stylus is included. In a Reliance Digital listing snapshot updated in September 2026, several models appeared below ₹20,000, but those are dated offers—not guaranteed current prices.
Budget tablet options in India: a dated price snapshot
Reliance Digital’s under-₹20,000 collection displayed the following models and prices in a snapshot captured in early October 2026. Its list showed an update date of 11-09-2026. A separate tablet collection, marked updated 10-09-2026, listed the Lenovo Tab M11 Wi-Fi 8 GB/128 GB at ₹17,999 and Redmi Pad 2 LTE configurations at ₹23,999–₹25,999. Check the retailer for the current price, stock and exact SKU before deciding; these listings are not a complete survey of Indian tablet prices.

Choose the right screen size and model
Samsung Galaxy Tab A9: compact and Wi-Fi focused
The Galaxy Tab A9 has an 8.7-inch screen with a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz. Samsung lists a 4 GB memory and 64 GB storage configuration. Its smaller screen may suit carrying between classes or using in tight spaces; weigh that convenience against the reduced canvas for reading, split-screen work and video compared with larger tablets.
#1 Best Overall
Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+: larger screen, different configurations
The A9+ is a separate, 11-inch model, not simply another storage version of the A9. Samsung lists it with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz and configurations of 4 GB/64 GB or 8 GB/128 GB. Samsung says 5G support is available on the A9+ only. Check the specific model and connectivity option in the listing, since the A9 and A9+ have different sizes and features.
For both A9 models, Samsung says microSD cards are sold separately and can store media, but not applications. A card can therefore expand space for files such as photos and videos, but should not be treated as a way to add app-installation storage.

Lenovo Tab M11: a larger display and optional pen
Lenovo’s India product page lists the Tab M11 with a 10.95-inch-class 1920 × 1200 LCD, 90 Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Helio G88 processor, configurations up to 8 GB memory and 128 GB storage, microSD expansion, a 7,040 mAh battery and four speakers. Lenovo notes that specifications vary by model. A separate Reliance Digital collection listed the Wi-Fi 8 GB/128 GB version at ₹17,999, but the displayed price is a retailer snapshot, not a fixed price.
Lenovo lists the Tab Pen Plus and folio case as add-ons; pen availability is limited to selected M11 models. If handwriting or drawing matters, verify that the exact SKU includes or supports the pen and include the accessory cost in your comparison. Lenovo estimates up to 10 hours of video playback under its stated conditions; this is a manufacturer estimate, not a promise of real-world battery life.

Compare the details that change the value
- RAM and storage: Compare like-for-like configurations rather than model names alone. Samsung lists A9 at 4 GB/64 GB and A9+ at 4 GB/64 GB or 8 GB/128 GB; Lenovo lists M11 configurations up to 8 GB/128 GB.
- Expandable storage: Samsung says its separately sold microSD card stores media, not applications. Lenovo lists microSD expansion for the M11. Check the exact model page for limits and compatibility before buying a card.
- Connectivity: Confirm Wi-Fi versus LTE or 5G, not just the tablet family name. Samsung says 5G support is for the A9+ only; Lenovo lists SIM support for the LTE SKU only.
- Software support: Lenovo says the M11 is based on Android 13, expects two OS upgrades through Android 15, and will receive security patches through January 2028. Verify the manufacturer’s current support information and the precise SKU when shopping. The available sources do not establish comparable current support commitments for every model in the price snapshot.
- Accessories: A pen or case may be optional or tied to a particular bundle. Confirm what is in the box and that an accessory fits the exact tablet model.
- Checkout total: Retailer headline prices can vary with stock, offers, configuration and connectivity. Compare the final price for equivalent specs, including any needed pen or case.
How to choose for your use
For carrying around and casual use
Begin with an 8.7-inch tablet if compact size is the priority. Compare the Galaxy Tab A9 Wi-Fi 4 GB/64 GB and the retailer-listed Redmi Pad SE 8.7-inch 4 GB/128 GB by their current exact SKU and checkout price. The supplied listings do not support a performance or display-quality ranking between them.
For reading, video and a larger workspace
Look at 10.1-inch-class and larger options, including the Lenovo Tab M11 and the 11-inch Galaxy Tab A9+. Check whether the selected configuration is Wi-Fi or cellular and compare storage and price directly. Screen size alone does not establish which has better image quality or battery life in use.

For note-taking
Consider the M11 only after confirming pen availability for the specific model and the separate cost of the Tab Pen Plus if it is not included. A product-family name is not enough to establish that the accessory comes in the box.

The retailer collections provide a useful snapshot of models and displayed prices, not independent testing. The available evidence does not establish a reliable comparative ranking for speed, real-use battery life, display quality, durability or repairability across these tablets. Nor does it establish a named statistic for Indian tablet sales or budget-tablet market share. Use current manufacturer specifications and retailer listings to confirm features and price, and avoid treating a low price or a higher refresh-rate figure as proof of overall superiority.
