Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf BrowserStack screenshots show a fallback font or the wrong typeface, first identify which capture product you use, then check whether its remote browser can load the intended font file and whether the capture waits for the page to settle. BrowserStack’s Screenshots API, Percy, Live, and driver-triggered screenshots have different controls; a longer delay is not a universal fix.
Why are my fonts not loading in BrowserStack screenshots?
The title “BrowserStack Screenshots not capturing web fonts correctly” describes a symptom, not one confirmed BrowserStack defect. A fallback or incorrect face can result from an unavailable font asset, network or authorization restrictions, a CSS family/weight/style mismatch, browser-specific behavior, or a screenshot taken before fonts settle. Start by identifying your capture route; do not apply a setting documented for one BrowserStack product to another.
Identify the capture route and reproduce the conditions
Determine whether the image comes from the BrowserStack Screenshots API, Percy, a BrowserStack Live session, or Selenium or another browser automation driver. Record the URL, browser and version, operating system, viewport, capture method, and whether the issue affects every run or only a particular combination. For comparisons, keep URL, viewport, page state, and wait conditions constant while varying the browser or OS.
The Screenshots API documentation describes a headless URL screenshot service with browser and OS selection, and says it is available on Automate plans that include browsers. Check the current documentation for plan availability and parameter details.

Check whether the remote browser can fetch the font
Inspect the remote browser’s network logs, Percy build or CI logs, or developer tools when available. Find the font request and check its URL, status or error, redirects, authorization requirements, and host access rules. A page can render while a separate font request fails, leaving the browser to use a fallback.
- Confirm the expected font request is actually made and succeeds.
- Check whether the font file requires authentication or whether its host is blocked or not allowlisted.
- Look for timeouts, network errors, and redirects to inaccessible locations.
- If assets load lazily, verify the relevant content has been brought into the page before capture.
BrowserStack’s Percy asset-loading troubleshooting guide specifically discusses failed font and CSS assets, failed network requests, host allowlisting, timeouts, and lazy loading. Those Percy-specific diagnostics should not be assumed to describe every other BrowserStack capture product.
If the page or font host is private
For a staging site or other private resource, confirm BrowserStack Local is connected and its routing reaches both the page and the font host. BrowserStack describes Local as an encrypted tunnel through which remote browser requests can reach private resources: BrowserStack Local overview. If the page loads but its font host is outside the tunnel’s reachable routes, the font may still be inaccessible; verify this in the request logs rather than assuming it is the cause.

Verify the CSS selects the intended font face
Once the asset request is confirmed, check the declarations and the actual computed style for the affected text. Compare the family, weight, and style requested by the element with the corresponding @font-face declaration and font file. Check a representative glyph as well: a font may cover most characters while the browser falls back for a particular glyph.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Check the
@font-facefamily name andsrcURL in the stylesheet the page actually loaded. - Verify the declared weight and style match what the text requests; a request for a weight not supplied by the available faces can produce a different appearance.
- Inspect the element’s computed font family and weight to see whether a fallback is being used.
These are page-level CSS checks, not evidence of a BrowserStack-specific defect. Browser and operating-system differences can also affect rendering, so compare combinations under otherwise identical conditions.
Wait for the right readiness condition before capture
A fixed delay can give requests more time, but it does not guarantee that a particular remote font loaded. Use the wait control belonging to your capture product, and continue checking network and face selection if the result remains wrong.

BrowserStack Screenshots API: use its documented fixed wait
The API documents wait_time with a default of 5 seconds and allowed values of 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, or 60 seconds. Try an appropriate supported value if the page needs more time, then compare the result and request logs. It is a fixed wait, not a font-loaded signal. See the Screenshots API documentation for the current parameter details.
Percy script-based snapshots: wait for page content
For Percy script-based snapshots, BrowserStack recommends ensuring the page or target element has loaded before capture. Its documented controls include waitForSelector and waitForTimeout. Prefer waiting for a meaningful element or condition when available; a timeout alone can still finish before a slow font request. If the font remains wrong, inspect Percy’s asset and network diagnostics rather than assuming more waiting will fix it. See the Percy troubleshooting guide.
Custom browser automation: wait for the document font set
When your automation can run JavaScript in the page, wait for the document’s font set to settle before taking the screenshot:

await document.fonts.ready;
await driver.saveScreenshot("screenshot.png");
This uses the browser Font Loading API; MDN documents document.fonts.ready as a promise for the document font set’s loading and layout work: MDN: FontFaceSet.ready. Resolving it does not prove that the desired remote font succeeded or that the intended face and weight are applied. Check the request and computed style as well. Adapt the screenshot call to your driver; the example assumes a driver exposing saveScreenshot.
Compare failures and collect evidence
- Capture a working and failing browser/OS combination using the same URL, viewport, app state, and readiness condition.
- Save both screenshots along with the capture product, browser/version, OS, and exact reproduction steps.
- Retain font request failures, redirects, console errors, and relevant Percy build or CI logs.
- If the failure is intermittent, repeat the capture and compare the evidence across runs. BrowserStack’s Percy guidance recommends retries for one-off resource issues and investigation of persistent browser- or width-specific failures.
When reporting a persistent issue, provide those artifacts and the exact capture route. That makes it possible to distinguish an asset-delivery problem, a page configuration issue, a timing issue, and a browser-specific rendering difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 5-second delay guarantee that the correct font appears?
No. For the Screenshots API, 5 seconds is the documented default wait, but it is a fixed delay, not confirmation that a specific font request succeeded.
