If Hindi text is blank, substituted, or incorrectly shaped in a BrowserStack screenshot, first check whether the intended font and its stylesheet loaded in the rendering environment, then confirm capture happened after the Hindi content and font were ready. Also identify whether you are looking at a Percy-rendered DOM snapshot or a screenshot taken inside an Automate browser session: those paths capture from different environments.
First identify which screenshot path is failing
Percy’s SDK workflow captures DOM state and discovers assets, then renders screenshots on Percy infrastructure. A screenshot taken during an Automate browser session instead reflects the browser session in which it was captured. A font available on your local machine or in an Automate session may not be available to Percy’s renderer if Percy cannot fetch its CSS or font asset. BrowserStack’s Percy SDK workflow documentation describes the DOM-and-asset capture process.
- Percy snapshot: inspect the Percy build, asset requests, and renderer environment.
- Automate screenshot: inspect network activity and font application in that specific browser session.
Record the route, browser/version, operating system, viewport, locale, and the affected page before changing anything. That gives you a repeatable comparison and helps isolate whether the problem follows the page or the rendering environment.
Check font and CSS asset requests
In the Percy build details, review failed network logs and errors for the stylesheet and Hindi font URL. Check whether the font request redirects, requires authentication, is blocked by access rules, or depends on a host the renderer cannot reach. BrowserStack’s Percy troubleshooting guide calls out failed font/CSS assets and network errors, and recommends allowing failed asset hosts where appropriate while addressing the underlying errors.

- Find the CSS rule that should apply the Hindi font and note the font file URL it references.
- Check the build’s network details for that CSS and font request. A failed request points to delivery or access, not necessarily a glyph-shaping defect.
- Verify that the response is successful and that the font file is actually used by the Hindi text element, rather than merely declared in a stylesheet.
- Resolve blocked access, redirects, or host restrictions; allow a host only when it is an appropriate and trusted asset source.
A local browser rendering correctly does not establish that Percy can retrieve the same remote asset. If the intended font fails to load, a fallback may render instead. Changing the CSS font stack before confirming delivery can mask the symptom without fixing the cause.
Make sure capture waits for Hindi content and fonts
A snapshot can capture too early if the content or font arrives after the capture point. Confirm that the Hindi text element exists and is styled when the screenshot is taken. BrowserStack’s troubleshooting guidance includes delayed elements and capture waits among page-load troubleshooting actions.

- Prefer waiting for a page-specific selector that marks the Hindi content as present and ready.
- If the page has no suitable readiness selector, use an appropriate capture delay, then verify that it is long enough for the relevant content and font request in the failing environment.
- Inspect the resulting screenshot again after the wait change. Do not assume a delay fixed the font if the font request still fails.
Compare browser and operating-system rendering
After confirming assets and timing, compare the Percy browser/version and operating system with the environment where the page looks correct. Percy manages the operating systems used for its browser rendering and aims to use the relevant OS font stack. BrowserStack documents that Linux-based Chrome, Firefox, and Edge may render text differently from Windows or macOS. See its cross-browser visual testing documentation.
If the difference appears only in one browser or OS, investigate environment-specific font fallback or rendering rather than making a site-wide CSS change immediately. Compare the same URL, viewport, locale, and content while changing one environment dimension at a time.

Keep Hindi locale snapshots on the right baseline
Make sure the Hindi page variant is represented as a Hindi locale snapshot, with an appropriate baseline separate from the English page. Percy does not independently determine whether the first Hindi rendering is correct: a reviewer must inspect and approve that initial baseline. Afterward, visual comparisons can help expose font substitution, fallback, or layout changes. BrowserStack explains locale baseline management in its multi-locale visual testing guide.
