There is no universal winner. Browserless is the stronger first fit if you need self-hosting, private deployment, or several ways to connect existing browser automation. Hyperbrowser is worth evaluating when its cloud browser sessions, AI-agent workflows, and extraction tools fit your stack. For either service, compare representative workflows and total usage costs before committing.

What each service is built to do

Both Browserless and Hyperbrowser provide remote browser automation for developer workflows. Their documentation describes ways to connect browser automation code or services to managed browser sessions. The practical difference is emphasis: Browserless documents multiple interfaces and customer-operated deployment paths, while Hyperbrowser’s materials focus on cloud sessions, SDKs and APIs, web extraction, and AI agents.

Browserless

Browserless documents WebSocket browser sessions, REST APIs, BrowserQL, and AI integrations. Its documentation covers Puppeteer and Playwright connections, as well as multiple browser engines in its open-source Docker image. The open-source image does not include BrowserQL, stealth, or CAPTCHA solving; availability of advanced capabilities depends on product tier. See the Browserless overview and open-source Docker deployment documentation.

Hyperbrowser

Hyperbrowser’s documentation centers on cloud browser sessions, Web API and SDK use, web extraction, and AI-agent workflows. It describes Playwright and Puppeteer resources. Its cloud-browser and agent positioning is the vendor’s description, not an independent guarantee of speed or reliability. See the Hyperbrowser documentation home.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Browserless first if deployment control is important

  • You want to run the open-source Docker image for core browser automation.
  • You need an enterprise Docker or private-deployment option; confirm the current deployment terms and capabilities for your edition.
  • Your existing code or service benefits from a choice among WebSocket sessions, REST, BrowserQL, and documented integrations.

Do not assume that every cloud or enterprise feature is included in the open-source image. In particular, BrowserQL, stealth, and CAPTCHA solving are not included in that image.

Evaluate Hyperbrowser if its cloud and agent workflow matches yours

  • Your work is centered on cloud browser sessions and the documented SDK/API.
  • You want to evaluate its AI-agent, scraping, or extraction workflows against your actual tasks.
  • Its credit-based pricing maps cleanly to your expected browser time, proxy traffic, and service use.

The documentation reviewed here describes Hyperbrowser as a cloud service, but does not establish whether customer-operated self-hosting is available. If that is a requirement, ask Hyperbrowser for written confirmation and deployment details rather than assuming either availability or absence.

How pricing works—and why headline plans do not settle it

The figures below are advertised prices captured on October 3, 2026, not quotes. Plans, limits, and rates can change; verify the live pricing and terms before purchasing.

Browserless advertised plans

What the published performance comparison does—and does not—show

Browserless published a benchmark on December 5, 2025, using Puppeteer, one target URL, one region/configuration, and 10 runs per provider in the displayed setup. In that run, Hyperbrowser averaged 692.5 ms to connect versus 936.4 ms for Browserless; Browserless averaged 166.2 ms for navigation versus 251.1 ms for Hyperbrowser. Browserless also reported page creation as marginally faster in its comparison. These are vendor-published results, not an independent head-to-head test, and they do not establish which service will be faster or more reliable for your pages, region, or end-to-end workflow. See the benchmark methodology and results.

Connection and navigation timings are only parts of a browser task. They do not establish task completion rates, bot-resistance outcomes, total cost, or performance on complex pages. Browserless founder Joel Griffith invites readers to run the benchmark against their own URLs; use that reproducibility as a starting point, not as a substitute for workload-specific measurement.

Run a fair trial before choosing

  1. Use the same test flow. Run the same script, browser engine and version, target pages, and success criteria against each service.
  2. Match the environment. Use the same region and comparable concurrency. Include both short-lived and long-lived sessions if both occur in production.
  3. Measure more than speed. Record connection, page-creation, and navigation times, plus successful task completion, failures, retries, and total billed usage.
  4. Include difficult but representative cases. Test the pages, authentication, extraction, and authorized proxy or bot-handling needs that drive your real workload.
  5. Reconcile usage with the bill. Compare session time, reconnects, proxy traffic, service charges, and the plan limits you would actually need.

Alternative to consider for screenshot-only work

If your requirement is to return a rendered screenshot or PDF—not to control a browser session for general automation—try ScreenshotNeo first: it returns clean screenshots, bills only clean shots, and has the lowest paid plan described here. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a like-for-like replacement for general-purpose browser automation.

Or skip the browser setup

Make one GET request for a screenshot (replace the example URL with the page you need):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options. It accepts cookie and consent banners as a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
