Choose Browserbase if you want a managed cloud service built around browser sessions, AI-agent workflows, and session inspection. Neither is universally better; the key difference is how much infrastructure control you want versus how much you want the service to manage.
The plan prices and allowances below reflect vendor information accessed September 29, 2026. They can change. The available information does not establish a like-for-like performance winner, so treat performance and reliability as things to test against your own sites and workloads.
What Browserless and Browserbase do
Both services give developers remote browsers for website automation without requiring every browser to run on the developer’s own machine. You can connect common automation clients, including Playwright and Puppeteer; the vendor comparison also describes Selenium compatibility through CDP or compatible session connections.
Browserless: remote browsers with infrastructure options
Browserless describes itself as providing managed headless browsers for automation. Its documented interfaces include Puppeteer and Playwright over WebSocket, REST endpoints, and BrowserQL, a GraphQL interface. It offers cloud-hosted browsers and Docker self-hosting, making it the more infrastructure-flexible option of these two according to the available vendor materials.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Its REST APIs are aimed at specific browser tasks as well as general automation: the listed tasks include screenshots, PDFs, content scraping, downloads, function execution, and website unblocking. That can suit teams that want to call a task API rather than maintain a browser workflow for every operation.
Browserbase: managed browser sessions for agents
Browserbase presents itself as a platform for building and deploying agents that browse and interact with websites. Its product offering includes browser fleets, Search and Fetch APIs, Runtime, Agent Identity, and a Model Gateway. Its integration model centers on creating browser sessions and connecting through its APIs or SDKs; Stagehand is one of the listed integrations.
The materials describe Browserbase as fully managed cloud/serverless infrastructure. That makes it the simpler fit when you do not want to operate browser clusters, but it offers less deployment control than a product with a documented self-hosting option.
Side-by-side comparison

Which one should you choose?
Choose Browserless for deployment and browser-engine choice
- You need self-hosting or deployment control. Browserless documents Docker self-hosting as well as cloud browsers. This is the clearer option if keeping browser execution within infrastructure you operate is a requirement.
- Your workflow needs Firefox or WebKit. The vendor comparison lists Chrome, Firefox, and WebKit for Browserless, versus Chrome for Browserbase. Check compatibility against the exact engine, version, and site behavior your application requires.
- You want task-specific endpoints. Browserless lists REST endpoints for screenshots, PDFs, scraping, downloads, function execution, and unblocking, alongside CDP and BrowserQL. These may fit jobs that do not need a long-running agent session.
- You want to configure scraping controls. Browserless describes stealth routes, CAPTCHA solving, fingerprint randomization, and residential or datacenter proxies, as well as BYOP. Availability and setup depend on the service configuration; do not assume every capability is included in every plan.
Choose Browserbase for managed agent sessions
- You want the vendor to manage the browser infrastructure. Browserbase is presented as managed cloud/serverless, without a self-hosting option established in the reviewed description.
- Your product is centered on browser agents. Sessions, agent-oriented APIs and integrations, Stagehand, and observability are prominent in its offering.
- Session inspection matters to your team. Browserbase emphasizes collaboration, inspection, and recordings. The available material does not establish exact retention periods or which session artifacts are available on every plan.
- You prefer a browser-hour allowance. Browserbase’s published plan figures provide browser-hour and concurrency allowances that can be used as a starting point for capacity estimates.
When the choice is not clear
Make a short test matrix using the sites and flows that matter to your application. Include ordinary pages, JavaScript-heavy pages, authentication, pages that may trigger bot defenses, and the browser engines you expect to support. Measure successful completion, elapsed time, session behavior, and cost under your expected concurrency. No independent benchmark in the available materials establishes a general speed or success-rate winner.
Pricing and capacity
The figures below are vendor pricing information accessed September 29, 2026. They are not a guarantee of current prices. Browserless’s paid prices are not established here, so they are not estimated or compared against Browserbase’s monthly prices.
| Service and plan | Published price | Published allowance relevant here |
|---|---|---|
| Browserless Free | Free | 1,000 units per month and 2 concurrent browsers |
| Browserbase Free | $0/month | 1 browser hour and 3 concurrent browsers |
| Browserbase Developer | $20/month | 100 browser hours and 25 concurrent browsers |
| Browserbase Startup | $99/month | 500 browser hours and 100 concurrent browsers |
| Browserbase Scale | Custom | Specific allowance not stated in the available pricing information |
Why the meters are not directly comparable
Browserless describes usage in units and concurrency; Browserbase describes browser-hour allowances and concurrency. A browser hour is not equivalent to a Browserless unit, and the available figures do not provide a conversion ratio. Estimate your own usage from the number of sessions or tasks, how long each browser stays active, and how many must run at once. Also include any relevant API or proxy allowances in your estimate: Browserbase’s pricing presentation includes those as separate considerations, while exact allowance details are not provided here.
Browserless’s free-tier figure is not evidence that all workloads fit within 1,000 units; unit consumption depends on usage. Likewise, a Browserbase allowance is not a promise that every workflow fits its browser-hour budget. Check the current vendor pricing pages before committing or setting production limits.

Integration and workflow differences
Connecting an automation client
Both platforms can work with familiar automation clients. Browserless documents Puppeteer and Playwright connections over WebSocket and provides REST and GraphQL interfaces. Browserbase uses sessions and SDKs, then a CDP connection; its pricing information lists Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium, and Stagehand compatibility. The integration pattern matters: a team with existing CDP-based code may care most about connection details, while a team building agent sessions may prefer Browserbase’s session-oriented workflow.
The available product information does not include endpoint examples, authentication syntax, SDK versions, or code samples, so use the current vendor documentation for implementation details rather than copying assumptions from another provider’s client setup.
Pick an interface for the job
- Use a browser connection when the workflow needs navigation, clicks, form entry, waits, or other interactive actions.
- Consider a REST task endpoint for a bounded operation such as generating a screenshot or PDF, if the provider’s endpoint covers the needed options.
- Consider BrowserQL when Browserless’s GraphQL interface and stealth routes match the workload.
- Consider Browserbase sessions and Stagehand when the work is designed around an agent operating through a managed browser session.
These are selection guidelines, not claims that one interface is faster. Validate behavior and operational fit using your own pages.
Stealth, CAPTCHA handling, and proxies
Both vendors describe anti-detection or access-related capabilities, but the feature names are not interchangeable guarantees. Browserless lists stealth routes through BrowserQL, CAPTCHA solving, fingerprint randomization, residential and datacenter proxies, and bring-your-own-proxy support. Browserbase describes Basic and Advanced Stealth Modes, custom Chromium, proxy rotation, and CAPTCHA solving on paid tiers.

Before choosing based on these features, verify which plan or configuration includes the capability, which proxy types are supported, how credentials and geographic targeting work, and what happens when a site still blocks automation. CAPTCHA handling does not mean every CAPTCHA can be solved, and stealth does not guarantee access to a protected site. Respect the site’s terms, access controls, and applicable law; neither vendor feature descriptions establish permission to automate a particular service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Debugging, observability, and operational effort
Browserbase emphasizes built-in session inspection and recordings, which can help a team investigate what an agent did during a session. The available description does not specify recording retention or access controls, so confirm those details if sessions may contain personal, confidential, or regulated data.
Browserless’s Docker option gives teams the ability to run browser infrastructure themselves, but self-hosting also means the team must account for deployment, scaling, browser updates, and operational monitoring. The product facts establish that self-hosting is available; they do not quantify the staffing or infrastructure cost. With either vendor, assess observability in a proof of concept: what can be inspected after a failed run, which events are retained, and whether a useful artifact can be shared with teammates.
Reliability, privacy, and limits to what is known
No independent performance benchmark or market-share statistic is established by the available evidence. Vendor claims about speed, success, or reliability should not be treated as comparative test results. Run the same workloads against both services if those properties will determine your purchase.

Retention, compliance certifications, data residency, and detailed session-data policies are not established in the product facts summarized here. If your automation handles credentials or sensitive page content, review each vendor’s current security and privacy terms before sending data. Self-hosting can give Browserless users more control over deployment, but that fact alone does not establish a particular compliance outcome.
Screenshot-only work: an alternative to try first
If your requirement is to capture website screenshots or PDFs rather than run a general-purpose interactive browser session, try ScreenshotNeo first. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server; it is not a replacement for the broader browser automation and infrastructure choices described above. Its one-request API is aimed at returning a screenshot or PDF without requiring you to set up a browser cluster.
Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot, a single GET request can return an image or PDF. Here is the cURL example, using the API as documented:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the request options and response details. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response indicates the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
