Short answer: Browserless is the more direct fit when you want a screenshot from a REST request, need to use existing Puppeteer or Playwright code, or may self-host. Browserbase is worth considering when screenshots are part of longer-lived browser sessions and session inspection or recordings matter. Neither choice is established as faster, more accurate, or more reliable by an independent comparison in the available sources.

How the two services approach screenshots

Browserless: a direct screenshot request or a managed browser

Browserless documents an HTTP POST to its /screenshot endpoint. The request supplies a page URL and screenshot options; the response is an image in PNG, JPEG, or WebP format. Documented controls include full-page capture, viewport and device scale, quality, clipping, selector-based capture, and waits for page conditions. See the Browserless screenshot documentation for current request details.

This request-and-result shape can suit a job that needs one capture without maintaining browser state in application code. Browserless also documents connecting Puppeteer or Playwright to a managed browser over WebSocket. It offers cloud-managed service, private deployment, and Docker self-hosting; see its platform information for current deployment and plan details.

Browserbase: managed browser sessions

Browserbase presents managed headless browser infrastructure organized around browser sessions, concurrency, browser hours, and session inspection and observability features. This model can suit screenshot work that is one step in a sequence of navigation and interaction, or teams that need to inspect session runs while diagnosing problems. Browserbase’s current public plan information is on its pricing page.

The available official-source details do not establish that Browserbase’s screenshot endpoint exposes the same specific request options documented by Browserless. Check Browserbase’s current documentation before relying on a particular screenshot parameter or response format.

Choose by workflow, not headline price

Decision point Browserless Browserbase
Capture shape Documented REST request for a screenshot, or a managed browser connection through Puppeteer or Playwright. Managed browser sessions; a fit to evaluate when the capture is part of a longer session workflow.
Published screenshot controls Documentation describes full-page, viewport, device scale, quality, clipping, selector capture, and page-condition waits. Specific screenshot endpoint parameters were not established here; confirm in current Browserbase documentation.
Deployment Cloud, private deployment, and Docker self-hosting are documented by Browserless. Browserless’s comparison characterizes Browserbase as managed-only; verify deployment requirements with Browserbase before treating that as definitive.
Session diagnosis Browserless describes debugging tools in its own comparison; confirm current capabilities against its documentation. Pricing information lists session recording and observability features.

The deployment comparison and some cross-vendor feature contrasts above come from Browserless, which sells one of the compared products; treat those descriptions as vendor perspective, not neutral findings. Browserless’s comparison article also characterizes Browserless as supporting Chrome, Firefox, and WebKit and Browserbase as Chrome-only. Verify current Browserbase browser support in its own documentation before making a production decision.

Browserless lists 1,000 free units per month on its platform page accessed October 3, 2026; the reviewed page does not provide a directly comparable paid-plan breakdown. Do not equate Browserbase browser hours with Browserless units or infer which service costs less from those figures alone.

Estimate your own usage before choosing: count captures, measure how long a browser must remain open for each one, account for peak parallel work, and include any overages or proxy-related charges shown on current vendor pages. For a stateful workflow, session duration may be as important as the number of screenshots.

Check whether the returned image shows the intended page

A successful image response does not necessarily mean the target page was captured as intended. Browserless documents failure cases in which bot detection can result in a blank screenshot, CAPTCHA, 403 or access-denied page, or missing elements. Lazy-loaded content may also be absent unless it has been triggered before capture. Its guidance notes that scrolling may be needed to load such content; consult the Browserless troubleshooting documentation.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • For long pages, use full-page capture only after confirming that content farther down the page has loaded.
  • For a particular component, target a selector and wait for the element or relevant page condition rather than capturing immediately after navigation.
  • Inspect the image or page state for CAPTCHA, access-denied content, blank areas, and missing lazy-loaded sections. An HTTP or image response alone cannot confirm semantic success.
  • Test representative target pages and follow their access rules and terms. Neither service’s stealth or automation features should be treated as a guarantee of access.

Where ScreenshotNeo fits

If your main requirement is a website screenshot rather than a general managed browser session, try ScreenshotNeo first: it is a screenshot API with an MCP server, removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. Those steps can be turned off. It is an alternative to evaluate, not a claim that Browserless or Browserbase cannot capture pages or that ScreenshotNeo will bypass a site’s access controls.

ScreenshotNeo’s one-call API returns an image or PDF from a URL. For a WebP screenshot of Stripe, the cURL form is:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for authentication, output options, and other parameters. A response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 screenshots per month free without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000, with every feature on every plan.

Make a production choice with a representative trial

  1. Classify the workload: a one-off URL-to-image request, an existing Puppeteer or Playwright workflow, or a multi-step session that needs to stay open.
  2. List required capture controls, such as full-page output, selector targeting, viewport, timing, and lazy-load behavior. Confirm each control in the vendor’s current documentation.
  3. Test a small set of representative pages, including slow pages and pages with consent banners or automation checks. Inspect the resulting content, not just whether the request returned.
  4. Estimate browser duration and peak concurrency, then compare the current plan limits, included time or units, and overages relevant to that workload.
  5. Confirm hosting and data-control requirements, especially if private deployment or self-hosting is mandatory.

Common screenshot automation problems

The image is blank or shows a CAPTCHA

The target may have detected automation, returned an access challenge, or failed to render useful content. Inspect the captured page state and response details, test another representative page, and ensure your use complies with the site’s access rules. Do not assume that changing providers or enabling a stealth option guarantees access.

Some page sections are missing

Content may be lazy-loaded or may not have appeared by capture time. For Browserless, its docs describe scrolling to trigger lazy-loaded content and support waits for page conditions and selector-based capture. Validate the loaded state before relying on a full-page image.

A Browserbase option or cost is unclear

Browserbase’s monthly browser-hour and concurrency figures are not a complete cost model for every workflow. Check its current pricing and product docs for the endpoint, overages, and capabilities your implementation will use; the specific screenshot parameter parity with Browserless has not been established here.
