No. Automatic duplex on this model applies to printing only. The 20-sheet ADF is single-sided, and Brother’s specification sheet says duplex scanning and duplex copying are not supported. To digitize or copy a two-sided original, you must handle the second side yourself rather than relying on the feeder to turn or re-feed pages automatically. This distinction matters more than the phrase “automatic duplex” alone: the feature can save paper when printing two-sided documents, but it does not make two-sided scanning or copying hands-free.

Brother’s 2025 specification sheet gives maximum simplex print speeds of up to 16 pages per minute in black and 9 pages per minute in color. It lists first-page times of about 6.2 seconds for black and 9.6 seconds for color, plus scan speeds of up to 17 images per minute in black and 7 in color. Ink, workload, and warranty
Ink for the US model
Brother identifies its Genuine LC501 cartridge family for the US MFC-J1360DW and recommends using it with the printer. The product page says the included starter cartridges have stated yields of 200 pages for each color and black. Do not use that starter yield to infer replacement-cartridge life or cost per page: the available specification excerpts give inconsistent black-cartridge yield information, and yield depends on the cartridge and measurement standard. Brother recommends a monthly print volume of 50 to 1,000 pages.
