A report published October 1, 2026 says the first experiment is expected in Brave Canary behind a flag, with a dedicated mobile interface planned for a later phase. No stable release date has been established. PiunikaWeb’s report attributes the development details to Brave developer Sergey Zhukovsky.
What is planned for Brave on Android?
According to PiunikaWeb, the work involves bringing Chromium’s extension API to Brave for Android. The report says users may be able to install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, an unpacked extension manager, or CRX files, and that both Manifest V2 and Manifest V3 are planned. These are reported development details, not a Brave release announcement or a guarantee that every desktop extension will work on a phone.
The reviewed sources do not establish which extensions will be compatible, what Android permissions they will require, or whether installation methods will have restrictions. Brave’s extension guide documents desktop Brave, including Chrome Web Store installation and permission review; it does not confirm Android availability.
How could people try it, and when?
The reported first stage is an experimental flag in Brave Canary. PiunikaWeb says a dedicated mobile extension interface is planned for a later phase. The report does not establish a flag name, supported-device list, stable-channel date, or final rollout schedule.

Brave’s Android app is officially available through Google Play and Brave’s F-Droid repositories, according to its Android installation information. Brave said in a June 2025 announcement that its official F-Droid builds were identical to the Play Store builds. That does not establish whether a future experimental extension feature will arrive in both distribution channels at the same time.
What does Brave’s older Android issue tell us?
Brave’s Android extension-support tracking issue records an upstream Chromium dependency and says the work was not scheduled at the time that status was set. It is useful historical context, but it predates the newer report and does not establish the current implementation status.

What should Android users keep in mind?
Even if extension support ships, desktop extensions are not automatically suitable for a phone: small screens, mobile interactions, and Android permissions can affect how an extension works. The final Android compatibility and permission experience have not been established by the reviewed sources.
Brave’s general warning about third-party extensions applies here as background, not as a description of a confirmed Android permission prompt: “Brave cannot vouch for the security or privacy of third-party extensions, or how they’ll handle your data.” Read the full Brave extension guidance before installing extensions when the feature becomes available.
