You can block Snapchat on a compatible Samsung Galaxy using Android’s parental controls: open Settings > Parental controls > App limits, select Snapchat, and turn off Allow app. To restrict use without blocking it, set an app time limit instead. These controls depend on Android version and device setup; if the menu is missing, check the compatibility notes below or use Family Link if your child’s account and device support it.
How do I block Snapchat on a Samsung phone?
Google’s on-device parental-controls workflow lets you block a selected app or limit its use. The documented route is Settings > Parental controls > App limits. Choose Snapchat and turn off Allow app to block it. Google says a blocked app is hidden from All apps. The exact controls require Android 17 or later, and the device must not have multiple profiles such as a work profile or private space. Google’s Android parental-controls instructions provide the current setup details.
- Open Settings and tap Parental controls.
- Set a parental-controls PIN and recovery account when prompted.
- Open App limits and select Snapchat.
- Turn off Allow app to block access, or set a time limit if you want Snapchat available for a limited period.
Can I block Snapchat but leave other apps available?
Yes. The Android control is applied to the app you select, so you can block Snapchat while leaving other apps available. Check the selected app and setting before saving: turning off Allow app blocks it, while an app limit restricts how long it can be used.

Use on-device parental controls
In the same App limits screen, select Snapchat and set the time limit rather than turning off Allow app. This is suitable when the device supports Google’s on-device controls and the child’s phone is not configured with multiple profiles.

Use Family Link for parent-managed supervision
Samsung’s Australia guide describes starting on the child’s phone at Settings > Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls > Parental Controls, then following the prompts to supervise the child’s Google account. A parent manages the available controls in the Family Link app. Samsung notes that its instructions apply to Australian device variants, and availability depends on compatibility and circumstances. See Samsung’s Galaxy parental-controls setup guide and Google’s Family Link information.
Why don’t I see Parental controls in Settings?
The menu may be absent because the phone’s Android version or profile configuration does not support Google’s current on-device workflow. Google lists Android 17 or later for that workflow and says it cannot be enabled on a device with multiple profiles, including a work profile or private space. A missing menu is therefore not necessarily a setup mistake. Check for system updates and your device’s available controls; if the on-device option is unavailable, see whether Family Link is supported for the child’s account and device.

Which option should I use?
| Option | What it controls | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Android parental controls | Selected-app blocking or time limits | Google’s described on-device workflow requires Android 17 or later and does not support devices with multiple profiles. Google |
| Family Link | Parent-managed supervision of a child’s Google account and device controls | Compatibility and availability vary; Samsung’s cited setup path is for Australian device variants. Samsung Australia |
| Samsung Kids | A child-focused environment with controls for allowed content and app access, plus screen-time goals and bedtime | Availability may vary by carrier; Samsung’s US support page lists Android 9.0 or later. Samsung US |
| Snapchat Family Center | Teen supervision features within Snapchat, including time-use visibility and content controls | The cited support page does not describe it as a way to block launching Snapchat. Snapchat Support |
When is Samsung Kids useful?
Samsung Kids is an option for younger children who use a restricted, child-focused environment. Samsung says its parental controls can manage allowed content and app access, along with screen-time goals and bedtime. Set the child’s profile and permitted apps there, but do not assume every Galaxy version has the same Snapchat-specific switch. Samsung’s US support information says Android 9.0 or later is required and availability may vary by carrier. Setup instructions are at Samsung Kids on Galaxy phones and tablets.

Family Center adds teen supervision features inside Snapchat, such as time-use visibility and content controls. The listed features do not document a control that prevents the app from launching. Use Android or supported parent-managed device controls when your goal is to block access to Snapchat itself; Family Center serves a different, in-app supervision role.

Do web filters block Snapchat?
No. Google’s web-content filtering applies to specified current Google, Chrome, and WebView versions and participating providers; explicit content may still appear through other apps, devices, or browsers. Web filtering is separate from the app-level setting that blocks Snapchat.
