Blazor then renders the list from that updated state. The example below keeps tasks in memory; it demonstrates the interaction loop, not persistent storage.
What makes a Blazor task tracker interactive?
A useful task tracker follows a simple cycle: the user types or clicks, a binding or event handler updates component state, and the component renders the updated task list. Razor event attributes such as @onclick connect discrete actions to component logic. Microsoft’s ASP.NET Core 10.0 Blazor todo-list tutorial covers component changes, event handling, data binding, and routing. Its page was last updated November 11, 2025.
Build the task list in one component
For a small tracker, keep the model, collection, and handlers together in a Razor component such as Tasks.razor. This illustrative example uses in-memory state only, so reloading the page starts with an empty list.
@using Microsoft.AspNetCore.Components.Forms
<EditForm Model="draft" OnValidSubmit="AddTask">
<DataAnnotationsValidator />
<label for="task-title">Task title</label>
<InputText id="task-title" @bind-Value="draft.Title" />
<ValidationMessage For="@(() => draft.Title)" />
<button type="submit">Add task</button>
</EditForm>
<ul>
@foreach (var task in tasks)
{
<li>
<input type="checkbox" checked="@task.IsComplete"
@onchange="() => ToggleComplete(task)" />
<span>@(task.IsComplete ? $"{task.Title} (complete)" : task.Title)</span>
<button type="button" @onclick="() => RemoveTask(task)">Remove</button>
</li>
}
</ul>
@code {
private readonly List<TaskItem> tasks = new();
private TaskDraft draft = new();
private void AddTask()
{
tasks.Add(new TaskItem(draft.Title.Trim()));
draft = new TaskDraft();
}
private void ToggleComplete(TaskItem task) =>
task.IsComplete = !task.IsComplete;
private void RemoveTask(TaskItem task) => tasks.Remove(task);
private sealed class TaskDraft
{
[System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Required]
[System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.StringLength(100)]
public string Title { get; set; } = string.Empty;
}
private sealed class TaskItem(string title)
{
public string Title { get; } = title;
public bool IsComplete { get; set; }
}
}
The form binds its input to draft.Title. When the user submits a valid title, AddTask creates a task in the collection and replaces the draft with a fresh model, clearing the field. Each rendered list item reads from tasks; the completion and removal handlers mutate that same collection or its task, so the next render reflects the change.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose when text input updates state
HTML element binding uses the change event by default, so a bound value generally updates when the user commits an edit, such as by leaving the field. For immediate updates, bind on input instead:
<input @bind="title" @bind:event="oninput" />
Use oninput when the interface needs live feedback, such as filtering tasks as the user types. For ordinary task entry submitted with a button, the default change timing is usually sufficient. See Microsoft’s Blazor data-binding guidance.

Make sure the component is interactive
In a Blazor Web App, a component rendered only as static HTML will not respond to interactive controls. Microsoft Learn notes that most Blazor documentation examples require interactivity to demonstrate their behavior. Select an interactive render mode at the app or component level; the right scope depends on where the app needs interactive UI.
For example, an app can apply an interactive mode to its router in App.razor, or a page can declare a mode for itself. Consult the ASP.NET Core 10.0 render modes reference for the available modes and setup. The general Razor components documentation explains the distinction between rendering and interactive behavior.

Add validation when task entry needs it
The example uses EditForm, a draft model with data-annotation rules, a validator, and a field-level validation message. The required rule prevents an empty title, while the length limit caps it at 100 characters. Blazor’s forms overview documents form and validation options.
These checks improve the form interaction; they do not save tasks or establish a persistence layer. A component-local list is lost when the component is recreated or the page reloads. Saving tasks across sessions requires storage beyond this example.

Troubleshoot a button or field that does not work
- The click appears to do nothing: confirm the component is in an interactive render mode, then check the exact event attribute, such as
@onclick, and that its handler is in scope. Microsoft’s event-handling reference describes handler behavior. - The typed title is missing or stale: check that the input is bound to the property the submit handler reads. If updates must happen while typing, specify
@bind:event="oninput". - The list does not show the expected change: verify the handler updates the collection or task model used by the rendered markup, rather than a separate temporary value.
- The form will not add a task: inspect the validation message and confirm the submit action is connected through
OnValidSubmit(or use a suitable submit handler if you are not validating).
When state needs to cross into a child component, pass values through parameters and report changes with an EventCallback<T> or binding pattern. Avoid directly mutating a child component’s parameter; Microsoft’s binding guidance explains how get/set binding and callbacks keep component state synchronized.
