Blackjaw is a plier-based multitool from Tokyo design workshop Tsuchioto Works. Its defining idea is to keep the implements attached to the tool instead of relying on loose, interchangeable bits. That makes it a fixed-kit alternative to bit-based multitools—not a tested replacement for Leatherman or other brands.
What is the Blackjaw multitool?
Blackjaw is a compact, folding multitool built around pliers. Tsuchioto Works says it designed the tool in response to loose bits being easy to lose; its solution is to attach the implements to the chassis. New Atlas reported on September 29, 2026, that the tool was being funded on Kickstarter. The campaign page identifies the product as Blackjaw, but its title is the only campaign-page detail available to confirm here.
The comparison with a Leatherman is best understood as a design analogy: both are plier-based multitools. Available reporting does not establish a tested performance comparison with Leatherman, Gerber, or any other product.
What tools does Blackjaw include?
New Atlas describes implements distributed along the outside of the split handles, accessible without opening the whole body. The reported tool groups are:

The pliers have a single pivot and three reported working zones: long-nose tips, a rounded gripping section, and a wire cutter at the inner crease. These are descriptions of the design, not independent findings about how well the tools perform.
Why is it called 10-in-1 in one place and 11-in-1 in another?
The difference is how the count classifies the carabiner, not a reported hardware discrepancy. New Atlas says Tsuchioto counts 11 tools; its writer counts ten, treating the carabiner as a carry feature rather than a tool function. The Kickstarter page title also calls Blackjaw an “11-in-1” multitool with pliers and a carabiner. The campaign title does not provide further detail about the count.

How big and heavy is Blackjaw?
New Atlas reports a closed length of 4.2 inches (107 mm) and a weight of 7.8 oz (220 g). It describes the construction as aluminum and stainless steel with a matte black finish. These are reported specifications, not independently measured results.
New Atlas also reported Tsuchioto’s expectation that regular use for six months would leave the finish looking “used rather than ruined.” That is the maker’s reported expectation, not a verified durability result.

How is Blackjaw different from an interchangeable-bit multitool?
Blackjaw’s reported Phillips and flathead screwdrivers are fixed implements; New Atlas says it does not accept substitute driver bits. That keeps the included tools attached and together, but limits the driver options you can select for a particular job. A bit-compatible design offers more flexibility when you need other sizes or styles, while Blackjaw’s approach favors a fixed set. The better fit depends on whether you value that flexibility or prefer the included implements to stay with the tool.
When is Blackjaw expected to ship, and what was reported about its price?
In its September 29, 2026 report, New Atlas said Kickstarter pledges started at ¥11,000 (approximately US$70), the campaign goal was US$633, and deliveries were planned for March 2027 if plans proceeded. These are dated campaign figures and an announced schedule, not confirmation of the current price, campaign status, or fulfillment. The Kickstarter page title alone does not verify those details.

What can—and can’t—be concluded from the available information?
The reported specifications and layout explain what Blackjaw is intended to offer: a plier-based tool with attached implements and a fixed driver selection. No hands-on test results establish its grip, cutting or stripping performance, finish durability, or advantage over another multitool. The available evidence also does not establish warranty terms or current availability.
