U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $89.9 million in net outflows on October 5, 2026, reversing about $293 million of inflows over the previous two October trading sessions. Cointelegraph reported the figures on October 6, citing SoSoValue. In that same report, BTC was priced at $85,559—about 32% below its $126,080 all-time high from October 6, 2025. The outflow and the price decline happened in the same period, but the figures do not establish that one caused the other.
What happened to Bitcoin ETF flows on October 5?
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs had a net outflow of $89.9 million on October 5, 2026, according to SoSoValue data reported by Cointelegraph on October 6 and listed in TFTC’s tracker. That followed approximately $293 million in net inflows over the two preceding October trading sessions, so the October 5 figure marked a one-session reversal rather than a continuation of those inflows.
The total is an aggregate across the funds covered by the tracker. It does not mean every fund had an outflow: on October 5, TFTC listed ARKB at minus $85.2 million, FBTC at minus $74.5 million, and IBIT at plus $69.9 million. Their mixed results netted to the reported aggregate outflow. TFTC’s Bitcoin ETF flow tracker provides the fund-level figures.
What does an ETF outflow measure?
A net flow measures fund creations minus redemptions. It is not the total value of ETF shares traded during the session: as TFTC’s methodology puts it, “Flows are different from trading volume.” A fund can have substantial share trading without an equivalent creation or redemption of fund shares.

Daily numbers can also change as issuers report or data is updated. Treat the October 5 total as the reported figure for that session, not as an immutable count or a tally of every investor transaction.
How far was BTC below its October 2025 high?
Cointelegraph’s October 6, 2026 report put BTC at $85,559 and cited a CoinGecko all-time high of $126,080 on October 6, 2025. That publication snapshot was roughly 32% below the high. CoinGecko’s live page displayed a 31.9% drawdown when retrieved on October 7, 2026; because live prices move, that percentage is tied to that retrieval date, not a permanent reading.

The dates matter: the ETF flow figure is for October 5, 2026, while the BTC price snapshot was cited in a report published October 6. Neither the timing nor the figures demonstrate that ETF redemptions caused BTC’s drawdown, or that the drawdown caused redemptions.
What the ETF flow figure does—and does not—cover
The tracker covers U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs. It does not represent the whole Bitcoin market: it excludes futures-based ETFs, funds outside the United States, corporate treasuries, and people buying or selling BTC directly. The daily flow therefore cannot establish what all Bitcoin investors did, why they acted, or where the market will go next.

Spot ETF investors get fund exposure without directly holding BTC. People who hold Bitcoin directly instead control their own custody arrangements and private keys. That distinction helps explain what an ETF flow tracks, but the October 5 figure alone does not reveal investors’ motives.
