For a large e-reader, start with what you’ll read and whether you need to write on the screen. Current options in the evidence here range from 10.2 to 10.3 inches, with BOOX also describing a 13.3-inch class intended for A4 documents. That extra screen area can matter more for PDFs and papers than for ordinary novels, but screen size alone does not determine clarity, file handling, or ease of use.
Which size fits what you read?
Large e-readers in this comparison cluster around 10.2–10.3 inches. That is a step up from compact book-focused readers, while remaining a different proposition from a device sized around a full-page document. For A4 PDFs or academic papers, BOOX says its 13.3-inch devices are the best fit; that is the manufacturer’s sizing guidance, not the result of an independent comparison test. BOOX’s size guide
Before choosing by diagonal measurement, consider the page layout you need to see at once. A novel can be comfortable on a smaller screen because text reflows, while a PDF may preserve its original page dimensions and require zooming or panning on a smaller display. The available specifications do not establish how well each model handles particular files or layouts, so check the exact document workflow you intend to use.

| Model | What the cited source specifies | Best starting point for |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Kindle Scribe | Amazon lists a 10.2-inch glare-free screen, 300 ppi, an auto-adjusting front light, and writing functionality. Amazon’s Kindle Scribe FAQ | Readers already using Kindle who want a large screen and handwriting capability. |
| Rakuten Kobo Elipsa 2E | Kobo lists a 10.3-inch glare-free E Ink Carta 1200 display. The cited catalog entry does not establish a directly comparable pixel-density figure. Kobo’s US e-reader catalog | Readers considering Kobo’s book ecosystem and a large display; confirm the specific writing workflow against current product details. |
| BOOX Go 10.3 | BOOX lists a 10.3-inch HD e-paper glass screen. Its cited product page does not establish every feature needed for a direct comparison. BOOX Go 10.3 product page | Readers considering a flexible e-paper device or comparing BOOX sizes for document work. |
These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled side-by-side reading test. In particular, a pixel-density figure and a display-technology name describe different things: Amazon’s 300 ppi for the Scribe cannot be directly compared with Kobo’s Carta 1200 label to declare one screen sharper. The cited sources also do not provide a verified, like-for-like comparison of current prices, weight, color, app support, or supported document formats.

Reading and handwriting are separate requirements
A large screen can be useful for marking up pages, but “supports writing” does not by itself establish how a device handles annotations, notebooks, exported notes, or writing in books. Amazon presents the Kindle Scribe as a Kindle that can be written on. Kobo’s catalog identifies the Elipsa 2E, and TechRadar’s Elipsa 2E review provides editorial context for its note-taking role. Those descriptions are not a substitute for verifying the specific workflow you need.
- Mostly novels and store-bought books: Give priority to the book ecosystem you already use and the screen size you find comfortable.
- PDFs, papers, or other fixed-page documents: Compare the page size you need to view with the device dimensions; BOOX specifically points to its 13.3-inch class for A4 documents.
- Handwritten notes or annotations: Confirm what can be written on, how notes are saved or exported, and whether the required pen is included or compatible. The cited sources do not establish all those details for every model.
What to verify before buying
Product generations, regional availability, and pricing can change. The specifications cited here do not establish current prices or stock, and no single model is supported as a universal winner. Before purchasing, check the manufacturer’s current listing for the exact generation sold in your region and verify these details against your own use:

Independent coverage can add context but may describe an earlier generation or a review-period configuration.
