Bethesda says Fallout 5 is in preproduction, but it is a long-range project with no announced release date. The studio’s main development focus is The Elder Scrolls VI. In the meantime, Bethesda has confirmed several other Fallout projects, including undated remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, a new collaboration with Obsidian, and a Fallout 76 expansion planned for 2027.
What Bethesda said about Fallout 5
In a studio note dated July 17, 2026, Bethesda Game Studios described Fallout 5 as a “long-range destination” and said it is “currently in preproduction.” The studio did not announce a release date or release window. Preproduction identifies the project’s stated development stage; it does not establish when the game will launch. Bethesda Game Studios’ update
Bethesda also said The Elder Scrolls VI is its primary development focus, with most of the team working on that game. That is the clearest explanation the studio has offered for Fallout 5’s long-range status, but it is not a timetable.
