The best Zoom alternatives depend on what you need to replace. Microsoft Teams is the strongest overall choice for Microsoft 365 businesses, Google Meet fits Google Workspace users, Webex suits enterprise and event-heavy organizations, Whereby keeps browser meetings simple, and Jitsi Meet is the leading open-source option. No single app matches every Zoom feature.

A meeting app, webinar platform, business phone system, team-chat service, community platform, and self-hosted video server are not interchangeable. Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, RingCentral, GoTo Meeting, Whereby, Jitsi Meet, Slack Huddles, Discord, and Dialpad or Nextiva each replace a different part of the Zoom product family.

This comparison covers ordinary meetings, free plans, guest access, recording, collaboration, administration, security, webinars, phone service, privacy, and switching costs. Pricing and feature availability can vary by country, plan, monthly or annual billing, and vendor changes; the specific prices below were supplied in the research dossier and should be rechecked before publication.

Key takeaways

  • Microsoft Teams is the best overall Zoom replacement for organizations already using Microsoft 365; Microsoft lists Teams Essentials at $4 per user per month when paid yearly and Microsoft 365 Business Basic at $6 per user per month when paid yearly on the referenced US business pages.
  • Google Meet is usually the lowest-friction choice for organizations already using Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Workspace administration.
  • Cisco Webex is the strongest enterprise-oriented alternative in this shortlist, particularly when security administration, calling, and formal events matter.
  • Whereby is best for simple browser-based recurring rooms, while Jitsi Meet is best for organizations willing to accept the operational responsibility of self-hosting.
  • RingCentral, Dialpad, and Nextiva are better than ordinary meeting apps when replacing Zoom also means replacing business phone service, messaging, or customer communications.
  • Slack Huddles and Discord are useful substitutes for internal collaboration and communities, but neither is a one-for-one replacement for Zoom Webinars or formal external meetings.

What are the best Zoom alternatives?

The best Zoom alternative for most businesses is the collaboration platform the business already operates. Microsoft 365 customers should start with Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace customers should start with Google Meet, and Slack customers should consider Slack Huddles for internal calls. Businesses replacing video meetings and phone service should evaluate RingCentral, Dialpad, or Nextiva.

Microsoft Teams Microsoft 365 organizations Meetings, chat, files, calendars, identity, and collaboration Yes, with feature differences More complex licensing and guest experience
Google Meet Google Workspace organizations Calendar-centered business meetings Yes, with feature differences Recording, AI, and administration vary by edition
Cisco Webex Enterprise meetings and events Meetings, calling, messaging, events, and administration Yes, with feature differences Advanced plans can be complex or excessive for small teams
RingCentral Video/RingEX Video plus business telephony Meetings, phone, SMS, messaging, and unified communications Yes, subject to plan and feature Poor value if video is the only requirement
GoTo Meeting Focused business meetings Conventional scheduled meetings and screen sharing Check current plan and browser support Less broad than a complete collaboration suite
Whereby Simple recurring client calls Small browser-based meetings Core differentiator Not a complete enterprise or webinar platform
Jitsi Meet Open source and self-hosting Basic browser meetings with deployment control Yes Self-hosting transfers reliability and security work to the operator
Slack Huddles Slack-centric internal teams Spontaneous internal audio and video conversations Inside Slack, subject to plan Weak fit for webinars and formal external events
Discord Communities, gaming, and informal groups Persistent voice channels and community video Web access is available Not designed primarily for business governance
Dialpad or Nextiva AI, phone systems, and customer communications Video plus business calling and communications workflows Varies by product and plan Broader communications packages may cost more than a meeting-only service

The shortlist deliberately mixes direct conferencing replacements with unified communications, team-chat, community, consumer, and self-hosted products. A flat ranking would make the comparison misleading.

What does a Zoom replacement need to replace?

A Zoom replacement should be matched to the specific Zoom product or workflow being replaced. Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone, Zoom Webinars, Zoom Rooms, Zoom Team Chat, and asynchronous video tools solve different problems.

Zoom capability Questions to ask before switching Likely alternatives
Zoom Meetings Do you need scheduled calls, screen sharing, recording, captions, breakout rooms, or guest access? Teams, Meet, Webex, GoTo Meeting, Whereby
Zoom Phone Do you need phone numbers, call routing, SMS, voicemail, emergency calling, or international service? RingCentral, Dialpad, Nextiva, Teams Phone, Webex Calling
Zoom Webinars Do you need registration, panelists, attendee permissions, Q&A, polling, streaming, and attendance reports? Webex events, Teams event products, vendor-specific webinar plans
Zoom Rooms Do you need physical-room hardware, room scheduling, display control, and device management? Teams Rooms, Google Meet hardware, Webex Rooms, other room systems
Zoom Team Chat Do you need persistent channels, searchable messages, files, tasks, and team workflows? Teams, Slack, Google Chat, RingCentral
Recording and asynchronous video Where will recordings, transcripts, clips, and access permissions be stored? Depends on the suite, storage plan, and governance requirements

How do the ten leading Zoom alternatives compare?

1. Microsoft Teams: best for Microsoft 365 organizations

Microsoft Teams is the best Zoom alternative for businesses already using Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive, or Microsoft Entra ID. Teams combines meetings with persistent chat, channels, shared files, calendars, identity, and Microsoft 365 applications.

Microsoft lists Teams Essentials at $4 per user per month, paid yearly, on its US small-business page. The referenced plan lists group meetings of up to 30 hours and up to 300 participants. Microsoft lists Microsoft 365 Business Basic at $6 per user per month, paid yearly, with web and mobile Microsoft 365 applications, business email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and related services. See Microsoft’s small-business Teams plans and Microsoft’s Teams comparison page.

Teams is more capable than a meeting-link-only product, but that capability creates friction. New users may face more confusing navigation, authentication, lobby policies, and licensing choices than they would in Zoom. Some advanced meeting, AI, security, branding, phone, and event capabilities require separate licenses. Microsoft describes Teams Premium, Teams Phone, and event capabilities separately in its Teams Premium documentation and licensing materials.

Choose Teams when: the company already pays for Microsoft 365 or wants meetings, files, identity, chat, and collaboration in one ecosystem. Choose something else when: the organization mainly needs an exceptionally simple external meeting link.

2. Google Meet: best for Google Workspace users

Google Meet is the best Zoom alternative for organizations already centered on Gmail and Google Calendar. Calendar invitations, meeting links, Google Drive, Google Chat, and Workspace administration create a familiar workflow for employees and guests.

Google Meet supports browser and mobile access, but recording, attendance reports, administration, AI features, and advanced event capabilities vary by Google Workspace edition, country, and billing basis. The Google Workspace pricing page and Google Meet product page should be checked for the exact edition being considered. Google’s Meet Help Center is the appropriate source for current participant, duration, recording, and feature limits.

Meet is less of a standalone project-collaboration platform than Teams or Slack unless paired with Google Chat and the rest of Workspace. Google Meet is therefore a particularly strong replacement for Zoom Meetings, but the buyer should separately assess webinar production, long-term recording governance, and persistent project collaboration.

3. Cisco Webex: best for enterprise controls and events

Cisco Webex is the strongest enterprise-oriented Zoom alternative in this shortlist when security administration, calling, messaging, customer meetings, or formal events matter. Webex provides meetings, collaboration, polling, whiteboarding, calling, and event-oriented options within a mature business platform.

Please select C960 webcam as the default camera and microphone device in your application and ensure camera/microphone permissions are enabled, especially on macOS. (Tips: Incompatible with Windows Hello)

Webex can be more complex than a basic meeting application, and advanced features generally depend on paid plans or specific packages. A small business that only hosts occasional calls may receive better value from a focused product or an existing productivity-suite license. Enterprise buyers should compare current plans through Webex pricing, review meeting capabilities at Webex video conferencing, and inspect Cisco’s Trust Portal for current security and compliance documentation.

Choose Webex when: the organization needs formal enterprise administration, event workflows, or a broader Cisco communications environment. Choose something else when: ease of use and a minimal interface matter more than enterprise depth.

4. RingCentral Video and RingEX: best for replacing Zoom plus phone service

RingCentral is the best Zoom alternative when the business also wants to replace a business phone system. RingEX combines video meetings with business calling, SMS, messaging, integrations, and unified communications administration.

RingCentral can be poor value for a person or team that needs only occasional video calls. Phone numbers, calling regions, international use, SMS requirements, storage, and add-ons can materially change the total cost. Compare the current package at RingCentral RingEX plans and pricing, review video capabilities at RingCentral Video, and consult the RingCentral Trust Center for security information.

Choose RingCentral when: consolidating video, telephony, messaging, and administration is more valuable than buying the cheapest meeting license. Choose a meeting-only product when: phone service is already solved.

5. GoTo Meeting: best for focused business meetings

GoTo Meeting is a strong Zoom alternative for small and midsize businesses that want a conventional business meeting product without adopting a complete collaboration suite. Its focus is scheduled meetings, screen sharing, host controls, recording, and business-oriented support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

GoTo Meeting is less compelling when a company already pays for Teams or Google Workspace and does not want another vendor. GoTo Meeting is also narrower than RingCentral for business telephony and less suitable than Discord for community communication. Check the current GoTo Meeting pricing page, GoTo Meeting product page, and GoTo Meeting support documentation for current plan limits and browser behavior.

6. Whereby: best for simple browser-based rooms

Whereby is the best Zoom alternative for consultants, coaches, freelancers, and small groups that want guests to click a recurring browser-based room link. Whereby’s permanent or custom room-link model minimizes onboarding and avoids making every guest learn a new collaboration suite.

Whereby is not a complete replacement for enterprise collaboration, business telephony, or large webinars. Participant limits, recording, storage, branding, and administration vary by plan. A permanent room link should not be treated as a secret: use access controls and avoid sharing a recurring room publicly for sensitive meetings. Review Whereby’s current pricing and its help documentation before choosing a plan.

7. Jitsi Meet: best for open source and self-hosting

Jitsi Meet is the best Zoom alternative for privacy-conscious organizations, developers, nonprofits, and technical teams that want an open-source meeting project or the option to operate their own deployment. The public meet.jit.si service and a privately self-hosted Jitsi installation are different choices.

Self-hosting does not make video conferencing automatically private, anonymous, secure, or reliable. The operator becomes responsible for server capacity, WebRTC networking, TURN configuration on difficult networks, patching, monitoring, scaling, abuse prevention, authentication, logging, backups where applicable, data retention, and incident response. Jitsi’s self-hosting quickstart documentation makes the operational nature of the choice clear.

Jitsi can be an excellent fit when control and open-source software outweigh turnkey administration. Jitsi is a poor fit for a buyer who expects a vendor to provide enterprise support, compliance workflows, webinar production, and guaranteed capacity without operating infrastructure.

8. Slack Huddles: best for Slack-centric teams

Slack Huddles is the best Zoom alternative for spontaneous internal conversations inside an existing Slack workspace. A huddle starts from a Slack channel or direct message, keeping the discussion, files, messages, and follow-up in the same workspace.

Slack Huddles is not a full Zoom Webinar replacement and is a weaker choice for registration, formal customer meetings, large events, and attendee reporting. Recording, canvases, AI features, and participant capabilities can vary by Slack plan. Check the Slack Huddles overview, Slack pricing, and Slack Huddles help documentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. Discord: best for communities, gaming, and informal groups

Discord is the best Zoom alternative for communities, gaming groups, clubs, and informal organizations that benefit from persistent servers and voice channels. Discord supports voice, video, screen sharing, streaming-oriented use cases, roles, channels, and community moderation.

Discord is not designed primarily for formal business governance. Occasional external guests may find account and server setup confusing, and businesses should not assume that community features provide the retention, audit, identity, compliance, or professional event controls required for sensitive work. Discord’s product site, Discord Nitro information, and Discord safety documentation provide current product and policy details.

10. Dialpad or Nextiva: best for AI or customer communications

Dialpad and Nextiva belong on a Zoom-alternatives shortlist when video meetings are only one part of a broader business communications requirement. Dialpad is the better candidate for teams prioritizing AI-assisted calling, transcripts, contact-center features, and business communications. Nextiva is the better candidate for small and midsize businesses evaluating unified communications and customer-facing phone systems.

Review Dialpad pricing and Dialpad video conferencing when AI and calling are central requirements. Review Nextiva pricing and Nextiva products when replacing a business phone system and customer communications matters as much as meetings. A broad communications package can be poor value for a solo user who only needs occasional video calls.

Which Zoom alternative is best for each situation?

Need Recommended starting point Why What to verify
Microsoft 365 meetings and collaboration Microsoft Teams Native relationship with Outlook, Microsoft identity, files, and Microsoft 365 apps Required licenses, guest policies, recording, AI, phone, and event add-ons
Gmail and Google Calendar meetings Google Meet Low-friction scheduling and familiar Workspace administration Workspace edition, recording, transcripts, AI, and event limits

Simple recurring client calls Whereby Browser-first rooms and low guest friction Room security, recording, storage, and participant limits
Open-source or self-hosted meetings Jitsi Meet Open-source project with public and self-hosted deployment paths Capacity, TURN, monitoring, patching, authentication, and support
Internal spontaneous conversations Slack Huddles Starts inside channels and direct messages External meetings, recording, plan limits, and event requirements
Communities and gaming Discord Persistent servers, roles, voice channels, and streaming Guest experience, moderation, privacy, and business governance
Video plus business phone service RingCentral, Dialpad, or Nextiva Combines meetings with calling, messaging, and customer communications Phone numbers, countries, SMS, AI, support, and total contract cost
Conventional business meetings without a broad suite GoTo Meeting Focused meeting workflow and business controls Current host pricing, participant limits, recording, and dial-in

Which Zoom alternatives have useful free plans?

A free plan is useful only when its limits match the meeting pattern. Compare maximum participants, group-call duration, one-to-one exceptions, guest accounts, recording, captions, transcripts, screen sharing, lobbies, waiting rooms, host controls, storage, support, and whether the free plan is intended for personal or business use.

Free-plan limits change frequently and vary by geography and product edition. The supplied source material confirms that free-plan details for Google Meet, Webex, GoTo Meeting, Whereby, Slack, and other products should be checked against current official plan documentation rather than copied from a static roundup. A free plan may omit centralized billing, SSO, provisioning, audit logs, retention controls, custom branding, support, recording, or webinar functionality.

  • Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode

  • Full HD 1080p video calling and recording at 30 fps. You'll make a strong impression with this PC webcam that features crisp, clearly detailed, and vibrantly colored video
Free-plan question Why the answer matters
How long can a group call last? A call may end unexpectedly when the group-duration limit is reached, even if one-to-one calls have different rules.
Can guests join without an account? Account requirements can make client, student, patient, or community access unnecessarily difficult.
Is recording included? Cloud recording may require a paid host, storage allocation, an administrator policy, or a higher edition.
Are captions and transcripts included? Accessibility, search, AI summaries, and retention may depend on plan, region, language, and administrator settings.
Are lobby and moderation controls included? Free meetings may be unsuitable for sensitive calls or large groups without admission and participant controls.
Is the plan suitable for business use? A personal free plan may lack account recovery, centralized administration, support, auditability, or contractual controls.

What should a small business compare before switching?

A small business should compare total cost per host or user, not just the advertised monthly price. The comparison should include annual versus monthly billing, participant and duration limits, recording storage, calendar integration, external guest experience, phone dial-in, support, account recovery, administration, migration effort, and required add-ons.

Microsoft provides a useful benchmark: the referenced US Microsoft page lists Teams Essentials at $4 per user per month paid yearly, with up to 300 participants and 30-hour group meetings. Microsoft 365 Business Basic is listed at $6 per user per month paid yearly and adds web and mobile Microsoft 365 applications, business email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and related services. Prices are geographic and plan-sensitive, so the Microsoft business comparison page should be checked at the time of purchase.

Bundled software can be the strongest bargain when a business already pays for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. Switching only to obtain a lower visible license price can instead create training, identity-management, guest-access, integration, migration, and vendor-lock-in costs.

Which alternative is best for remote teams?

Microsoft Teams and Slack are deeper remote-team replacements because both provide persistent channels, searchable chat, presence, file collaboration, and follow-up around meetings. Google Meet is tightly connected to Workspace and works well when Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Google Chat, and Google Docs already form the team’s operating environment.

Remote teams should assess persistent channels, searchable history, files, tasks, calendars, presence, async video or clips, notes, transcripts, AI summaries, guest access, and external-user controls. RingCentral is broader than a video app because it also addresses calling and messaging. A remote team should not select a meeting app solely because its video call limit is high.

How should businesses evaluate security and privacy?

Businesses should evaluate a defined security model rather than accepting a vendor’s unqualified claim that a product is “secure.” Compare encryption in transit and at rest, optional end-to-end encryption, identity providers and SSO, SCIM or automated provisioning, role-based administration, audit logs, retention, eDiscovery, regional data controls, recording and transcript governance, DLP integrations, and current compliance documentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

End-to-end encryption can restrict cloud recording, transcription, live captions, server-side moderation, or other features because the service cannot process protected media in the normal way. E2EE therefore does not mean that every feature remains available or that the entire product is private by default.

Self-hosting can reduce dependence on a vendor, but self-hosting also makes the operator responsible for patching, secure configuration, authentication, abuse handling, availability, scaling, encryption configuration, logging, retention, and incident response. Jitsi’s self-hosting path is a control and responsibility trade-off, not a guarantee of improved security.

What is the difference between a meeting app and a webinar platform?

A meeting app is designed for interactive participation, while a webinar platform is designed for controlled one-to-many events. A high participant ceiling does not automatically provide registration pages, branded event experiences, producer and panelist controls, attendee permissions, moderated Q&A, polling, streaming, attendance reports, capacity packs, or replay workflows.

Before replacing Zoom Webinars, verify registration, branding, panelists, attendee permissions, Q&A, polling, streaming, attendance reporting, recording, replay, simulive or on-demand options, and whether a separate event license is required. Microsoft Teams licensing documentation describes event capabilities and capacity packs separately from ordinary group meetings; use the current Microsoft event licensing FAQ and current Microsoft licensing pages at publication time rather than applying an ordinary meeting limit to an event.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which alternatives are easiest for guests?

Whereby, Google Meet, Jitsi Meet, and the web versions of Teams and Webex can provide browser-based joining, but browser access is not the same as feature parity. A guest test should cover browser joining, account requirements, app downloads, mobile support, telephone dial-in, lobby instructions, late admission, camera and microphone permissions, and the behavior on the guest’s operating system.

Browser joining may omit local recording, advanced audio routing, virtual backgrounds, production controls, telephony, administration, or accessibility features. A company should test the exact guest workflow with real customers, students, contractors, or low-bandwidth users before announcing a platform change.

What can go wrong after switching?

  • The free call ends unexpectedly: verify group-duration limits and test the exact number of participants before moving recurring meetings.
  • A guest cannot join: review account, authentication, lobby, domain, and browser requirements; provide a tested fallback dial-in or browser path when available.
  • Camera or microphone access fails: check browser permissions, operating-system privacy settings, and device selection before blaming the meeting service.
  • Corporate networks block media: ask the network team to review WebRTC, firewall, proxy, and TURN requirements.
  • A recording exists but guests cannot open it: verify storage location, sharing permissions, retention, external access, and transcript policy.
  • AI notes or transcription are unavailable: check plan, region, language, administrator policy, and whether the feature requires a separate add-on.
  • A permanent room link is exposed: replace or protect the room, enable admission controls, and do not use an openly shared recurring link for sensitive meetings.
  • Self-hosting works for two people but fails for a group: test bandwidth, server capacity, TURN behavior, scaling, monitoring, and difficult network paths before production use.
  • The replacement handles meetings but not webinars: select a dedicated event product or add the vendor’s event license and test registration, Q&A, reporting, and streaming.
  • The bundled suite costs more than expected: include migration, training, storage, AI, phone, event, support, and administration costs in the business case.

How do you choose and migrate from Zoom?

  1. Inventory the workflows: separate ordinary meetings, webinars, phone service, rooms, chat, recordings, transcripts, captions, breakout rooms, polls, whiteboards, and asynchronous video.
  2. Identify the existing ecosystem: start with Teams for Microsoft 365, Meet for Google Workspace, Huddles for Slack-centric internal calls, RingCentral/Dialpad/Nextiva for phone replacement, Discord for communities, and Jitsi for technical self-hosting requirements.
  3. Compare the real license: record currency, country, plan name, annual or monthly billing, number of hosts or users, add-ons, storage, phone requirements, AI features, and event licenses.
  4. Pilot real meetings: invite external guests, use browsers and phones, test mobile joining, try low-bandwidth connections, record a meeting, check permissions, and test captions or transcripts.
  5. Configure administration: set SSO, provisioning, roles, retention, recording access, audit logging, guest policies, and data controls before broad rollout.
  6. Preserve business continuity: export or preserve recordings, inventory recurring Zoom links, check CRM and calendar integrations, update websites and templates, and keep Zoom available during the transition.
  7. Train hosts and guests: publish short instructions for joining, admission, recording access, support, and common browser permission failures.

Overall verdict

There is no universal best Zoom alternative. Microsoft Teams is the overall recommendation for Microsoft 365 businesses, Google Meet is the practical choice for Google Workspace organizations, Cisco Webex is the enterprise and event-focused choice, and GoTo Meeting is the focused conventional business-meeting choice.

Whereby wins when simple browser rooms matter most. Jitsi Meet wins when open source and self-hosting justify operational responsibility. RingCentral, Dialpad, and Nextiva deserve consideration when video is part of a larger phone and customer-communications replacement. Slack Huddles and Discord are excellent for their native internal and community use cases, but they should not be sold as complete replacements for Zoom’s meetings, webinars, phone, rooms, and collaboration products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best free Zoom alternative?

The best free Zoom alternative depends on the use case: Google Meet or Whereby is a practical starting point for simple browser meetings, Jitsi Meet is the open-source option, Discord fits communities, and Slack Huddles fits teams already using Slack. Free-plan duration, recording, participant, caption, storage, and administration limits must be checked against the current official plan.

Is Microsoft Teams better than Zoom?

Microsoft Teams is better than Zoom for organizations that already use Microsoft 365 because Teams combines meetings with Outlook, chat, files, identity, calendars, and Microsoft 365 applications. Zoom can remain simpler for organizations that mainly need external meeting links and do not need the broader Microsoft collaboration environment.

Is Google Meet better than Zoom?

Google Meet is better than Zoom for organizations already using Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Workspace administration because scheduling and guest access are tightly integrated. Recording, AI, attendance, administration, and event capabilities vary by Workspace edition.

Which Zoom alternatives allow guests to join without downloading an app?

Whereby, Google Meet, Jitsi Meet, and the web versions of Teams and Webex can support browser-based joining, but browser features vary by product and plan. Organizations should test account requirements, camera and microphone permissions, mobile support, dial-in, lobby behavior, and whether recording or advanced controls require an app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which Zoom alternative is best for webinars?

Cisco Webex and Microsoft Teams event products are the strongest starting points in this shortlist for formal webinars and events. Buyers must separately verify registration, panelists, attendee permissions, moderated Q&A, polling, streaming, attendance reports, capacity, recording, replay, and event-license requirements because ordinary meeting capacity does not equal webinar capability.

Can I self-host a Zoom alternative?

Jitsi Meet can be self-hosted, but self-hosting transfers responsibility for server capacity, WebRTC networking, TURN configuration, updates, monitoring, scaling, authentication, abuse prevention, retention, and incident response to the operator. Open-source software does not automatically provide anonymity, security, reliability, or enterprise support.

The Bottom Line

Choose the replacement that matches the workflow, not the longest feature list. Teams and Meet are usually the most economical ecosystem choices, Webex is the strongest enterprise-oriented option, Whereby minimizes guest friction, Jitsi maximizes deployment control, and RingCentral, Dialpad, or Nextiva make sense when business telephony is part of the switch.
