The best Zapier replacement depends on what you need to change: Make is a strong candidate for visual automation, n8n for execution-based billing or self-hosting, Microsoft Power Automate for Microsoft-focused workplaces and desktop flows, and Activepieces for cloud or on-prem deployment with an open-source option. None is automatically cheaper or more powerful for every workload. Compare the exact integrations and calculate your own workflow volume against each service’s billing unit.
Which Zapier alternative fits your needs?
| Alternative | Best fit | Billing or deployment model | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Make | People who want a visual workflow builder and can estimate action-based usage | Credits; Free lists 1,000 monthly credits, and Core is $9 per month for 10,000 credits | Credit use depends on scenario actions, and credits do not map directly to another service’s task or execution unit. |
| n8n | Technical teams seeking workflow-level billing or self-hosting | Starter is €20 per month billed annually for 2,500 executions; a self-hosted Community Edition is available | Self-hosting means you operate and maintain the infrastructure. Cloud and self-hosted options are not the same operating model. |
| Microsoft Power Automate | Microsoft-centric organizations and users who need desktop automation | Premium is $15 per user per month, paid yearly, and includes cloud flows and attended desktop flows | Connector licensing and the right user- or bot-based plan depend on the workflow; do not assume an existing Microsoft 365 subscription includes the features you need. |
| Activepieces | Readers weighing open-source software or cloud and on-prem deployment | Free lists 1,000 monthly credits; Plus is $20 per month for 10,000 credits. Cloud and on-prem hosting are offered. | Include any overage, infrastructure, and operational work when comparing deployment choices. |
These are vendor-listed plan details, not a controlled comparison of total cost or capability. Prices and plan terms can change; the figures here were displayed on the vendors’ pricing pages in 2026. Check your region, taxes, billing period, and current plan details before switching.
How to compare the real cost
A plan’s headline price or allowance does not tell you what your workflows will cost. First identify the unit each service counts, then estimate how often your actual workflows consume it. Branches, repeated actions, and workflow complexity can make apparently similar allowances behave very differently.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMake counts module actions as credits
Make’s pricing page says that each module action in a scenario generally counts as one credit; it also notes exceptions and that some AI features cost more. Its listed Free tier includes 1,000 credits per month, while Core is $9 per month for 10,000 credits. Map each scenario’s actions and expected runs to credits rather than comparing that allowance directly with another platform’s tasks or executions. See Make’s current pricing and credit details.
#1 Best Overall
n8n counts workflow executions on Starter
n8n lists its Starter plan at €20 per month when billed annually, with 2,500 workflow executions. Its stated model is based on monthly executions regardless of workflow complexity. That can make the execution count a useful starting point for estimation, but the euro-denominated annual price is not directly comparable with the US-dollar monthly figures below. Check n8n’s current pricing.
Power Automate prices Premium per user
Microsoft lists Premium at $15 per user per month, paid yearly, with cloud flows and attended desktop flows. Microsoft also lists bot-based plans. Work out which licensing model applies to the people or automation involved, and verify connector requirements before treating the per-user price as the full cost. Review Microsoft’s Power Automate pricing and licensing information.
Rank #2
Activepieces uses credits on its listed plans
Activepieces lists 1,000 monthly credits on Free and 10,000 monthly credits on Plus at $20 per month. Its pricing information describes cloud or on-prem hosting and identifies the product as open source. Account for any overage and, for an on-prem deployment, the work and infrastructure needed to run it. See Activepieces’ current plan details.
Check workflow fit before migrating
Do not choose a service from an integration-count headline alone. A replacement has to support the specific app pair and the particular event and operation your automation uses. Verify each proposed workflow against these requirements:
Rank #3
- Apps, triggers, and actions: Confirm that both apps are supported and that the exact trigger and action are available on the plan you intend to use.
- Volume and billing unit: Estimate normal and peak runs, including branches and repeated steps, using that platform’s own credit, execution, or user-based model.
- Logic and code: Identify whether the workflow needs conditional paths, data transformation, or custom code, then confirm the candidate can handle those needs.
- Deployment: Decide whether a vendor-hosted cloud service, self-hosting, or on-prem operation is acceptable for your organization.
- Administration and support: Check what your team needs for access control, monitoring, troubleshooting, and support, and confirm those features are included in the relevant plan.
Test the workflows that matter most before moving everything. A connector may exist while a required event, action, or plan entitlement does not; validate the exact combination rather than assuming the whole integration will transfer unchanged.
Choosing by operating model
Choose Make for a visual, credit-based approach
Make is worth evaluating if you prefer to build and inspect scenarios visually and can estimate their module actions. Its credit model can suit a workflow, but whether it costs less depends on the scenario’s action count, run frequency, exceptions, and any higher-cost features.
Rank #4
Choose n8n if execution billing or self-hosting fits
n8n is a practical candidate for technical teams that want a workflow-execution allowance or are prepared to run the Community Edition themselves. Self-hosting trades some dependence on a hosted service for responsibility over infrastructure and maintenance; choose it only if your team can take on that work.
Choose Power Automate for Microsoft and desktop workflows
Power Automate is relevant when your work already centers on Microsoft services or needs attended desktop flows. Its per-user Premium plan is only one licensing option, so establish whether your workflow needs a user-based or bot-based plan and what its connectors require.

Choose Activepieces if open source or on-prem matters
Activepieces is worth considering when open-source software and cloud or on-prem deployment are important selection criteria. Compare the hosted plan allowance with the operating cost and effort of the deployment you intend to use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is an alternative actually cheaper or more powerful?
That depends on the workflow, not the product label. A lower starting price does not establish a lower total bill: the billing unit, included allowance, overage terms, annual commitment, deployment costs, and licensing requirements all matter. Likewise, “more powerful” only has meaning against a requirement—such as a specific connector, logic capability, desktop automation, or deployment control—that the current setup does not meet.
For each candidate, price the same representative workflow: list its required integrations and steps, estimate monthly runs and branches, apply the vendor’s current billing rules, and include any hosting or licensing work. Then test the workflow and confirm the exact plan permits it. This is the dependable way to decide whether a switch improves your own cost or capability.
