For a typical 1080p, 30fps YouTube Live stream using H.264, set the video bitrate to 14 Mbps. YouTube’s recommendation is 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) at the same resolution and frame rate. For the H.264 setting, aim for about 17.5 Mbps of stable upload capacity for the stream alone to leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Your JioFiber plan’s advertised speed is not a substitute for checking actual upload performance.
Recommended bitrate for 1080p at 30fps
YouTube’s live encoder guidance gives different recommended bitrates by codec. The figures below apply to live-stream ingestion at 1080p30, not to uploading prerecorded videos.
| Video codec | YouTube-recommended bitrate | Minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| AV1 | 10 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
These recommendations come from YouTube Help, accessed in 2026: YouTube Live encoder settings. The minimums are not the recommended quality targets. Use the row for the codec your encoder and YouTube ingestion path support; the lower AV1/H.265 figure should not be treated as an H.264 setting.

Is JioFiber upload speed enough?
It can be, if your measured, stable upload capacity covers the stream bitrate plus room for variation and other household traffic. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and cautions that download speed may be higher than upload speed. Its guidance says, “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” See YouTube’s network guidance.

For a 14 Mbps H.264 stream, dividing 14 Mbps by 0.8 gives 17.5 Mbps. That is a practical estimate of the stable available upload capacity to reserve for the stream alone; it is calculated from YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee about JioFiber or a particular connection. Allow additional capacity if other devices or people will upload data at the same time.
Check upload, not just the plan label
Jio’s plan comparison page lists examples including 30 Mbps upload and 30 Mbps download, and 100 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download. These displayed examples do not establish which plan is available to you, what your subscription includes, or the throughput your connection will sustain during a broadcast. Check your own plan and test the connection: Jio broadband plans.

- Run an upload speed test near the time and place you intend to stream. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate: YouTube network guidance.
- Test while your home network is in its normal state, including typical device use, rather than relying only on a plan’s advertised rate.
- Compare the stable upload result with your chosen stream bitrate and retain headroom for competing household uploads. For H.264 at 14 Mbps, use roughly 17.5 Mbps as the stream-only planning figure.

Test before going live and monitor stream health
Do a test broadcast before an important event, using audio and movement similar to what you expect in the real stream. A mostly static screen can behave differently from a scene with frequent motion, and a realistic test helps reveal whether the encoder settings and upload connection hold up together. While live, monitor YouTube’s stream health so you can respond if it reports an issue. YouTube recommends both steps in its live-streaming guidance.

Common bitrate and connection problems
- YouTube reports an unstable or insufficient upload: Check measured upload capacity rather than download speed, reduce competing household uploads, or choose a bitrate the connection can sustain while retaining headroom.
- Your plan advertises enough speed but the stream struggles: A plan figure does not prove sustained throughput at the time and location of your broadcast. Run a speed test near the event and test with a comparable stream.
- You selected 10 Mbps for H.264: The 10 Mbps recommendation applies to AV1 and H.265 at 1080p30, not H.264. For H.264, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps.
- You set a long keyframe interval: Use two seconds; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
Copyright and YouTube Live readiness
Bitrate alone does not make a stream eligible or safe to broadcast. Before going live, confirm that you have the rights to the video, music, and other material you plan to use, and review YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements and channel status. For a pre-broadcast rights check, use this copyright safety checklist. Avoid assuming that permission to use a recording in one context automatically covers a public live stream.
