How to compare services for a devotional channel
Ask each provider the same questions. A continuous devotional broadcast depends on more than whether a service can start an RTMP feed.

- Unattended continuity: Does the service restart automatically after a dropped YouTube connection, and can you see whether it recovered?
- Playlist control: Can you set the order and loop behavior you need, and schedule changes for prayers, readings, or other programming?
- Stream compatibility: Does it accept your file formats and output a codec, protocol, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval compatible with YouTube?
- Archive and recording: Can you keep independent recordings or create shorter broadcast segments if complete replays matter?
- Rights and claims: Can you verify permission for the actual recordings, performances, music, chants, and visuals you plan to use? A streaming service does not grant those rights.
- India-specific service: Ask about availability, network route or data location if relevant, support hours, payment and tax treatment, and how the service handles outages for your region.
- Total cost: For a self-hosted setup, include hardware, power, internet, backup connectivity, and the time spent monitoring it. For a hosted service, check storage, slot limits, billing term, and what happens if you need to change plans.
Prepare YouTube and the stream before launch
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it and test before announcing a launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide.
Connect the encoder using the stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, open the live workflow and create or select the stream you intend to use. Follow the current prompts in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube’s live setup into your chosen encoder or cloud service. Use the exact values supplied for that stream; do not publish the key or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
- Start a test broadcast and confirm in YouTube’s live control room that video and audio arrive correctly before relying on the feed unattended. If the key is exposed, replace it in the live workflow and update the encoder.
Match YouTube’s encoder settings
Choose settings supported by both the encoder and YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its encoder reference lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 as codec options, specifies constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Confirm the supported combination for your resolution and frame rate in YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution reference. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed for different devices and network conditions, so a viewer’s playback quality need not match the upload or input setting.

Make a deliberate archive plan
YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, so do not assume that one continuous event will produce a complete replay. If a full recording matters, plan shorter segments or make independent recordings outside YouTube. YouTube explains the archive limit in its encoder guide; Restream repeats the under-12-hour guidance in its YouTube streaming documentation.

Using an encoder or hosted loop does not exempt a broadcast from YouTube’s rules. YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms. Before streaming, confirm you have permission for each recording, performance, musical composition and recording, chant, photograph, video clip, and other third-party element. Religious subject matter alone does not establish that a recording is free to use. Review YouTube’s live-streaming guidance and the applicable rights for your material.

Likewise, a streaming service does not make a channel eligible for monetization. StreamYard’s help documentation says its YouTube live-ad controls apply only to channels eligible for the YouTube Partner Program, while most monetization settings are handled in YouTube Studio. Troubleshooting a 24/7 YouTube feed
