The best WordPress kit is the one built for the editor and theme you will keep using. Elementor users should start with Elementor kits, block-editor users with native patterns or Kadence, and mixed or theme-flexible projects with a library whose stated dependencies match the site. “Best” is therefore workflow-specific, not a universal ranking.
Template, kit, pattern: what you are actually importing
Single-page template
In Elementor’s terminology, a template usually means one page design, such as a home or contact page. It can be edited independently and does not necessarily provide a complete site structure.
Full-site kit
Elementor defines a kit as a coordinated website package: home, about, services, contact and blog pages with shared header, footer and styles. A kit is useful when you want consistent typography, colors and global components across a new site.
WordPress block pattern
WordPress distinguishes page patterns from template patterns. A page pattern becomes post content; a template pattern is a starting point for a supported template and can include shared elements such as headers, footers and sidebars. The Site Editor can offer an applicable pattern when you create a supported template.
#1 Best Overall
These terms are not interchangeable: importing a page design will not automatically create the global structure supplied by a full kit, while a block pattern belongs to WordPress’s native editor workflow.
Best choices by editor and site setup
| Option | Best fit | What the publisher states | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elementor kits | Sites already using Elementor | Many templates are available in Elementor Free; Elementor says its full library of 300+ website templates, including kits and premium designs, is included with Elementor Pro. Templates work with any WordPress theme and pair best with Hello Elementor. | Library size and compatibility are vendor claims, not independent quality or speed tests. Check the current plan, required widgets and license terms. |
| Astra Starter Templates | Users wanting a broad builder/theme-oriented library | The WordPress.org listing advertises 300+ free website templates, page templates and block patterns, with support for Elementor, Gutenberg and any theme. The Astra theme listing names Spectra, Elementor and Beaver Builder compatibility, plus WooCommerce and SureCart support. | “Broad support” does not mean every design behaves identically in every builder. Check the specific template’s plugins and requirements. |
| Kadence Starter Templates | Block-editor sites using Kadence Theme and Kadence Blocks | Kadence says its starter designs are built mainly with the WordPress block editor and Kadence Blocks, with some classic Elementor templates. Its FAQ states: “All of our starter templates are designed to work with the free Kadence Theme.” | Kadence recommends importing on a fresh WordPress installation. Performance language is marketing, not a comparative benchmark. |
| Native WordPress patterns | Sites staying inside the block editor and Site Editor | Patterns are integrated with WordPress’s page and template workflow, including global template elements where supported. | Available designs and controls depend on the active block theme and WordPress version. |
| Extendify | Readers seeking a large directory-listed collection | WordPress.org displayed 1,000+ designs and 500,000+ active installations on September 30, 2026. | Directory figures are snapshots, not audited quality scores or unique-site counts. |
| Templately | Users comparing large third-party libraries | WordPress.org displayed 6,500+ designs and 300,000+ active installations on September 30, 2026. | A larger catalog does not establish better design, accessibility or speed. |
| Envato Template Kit Import | Users importing compatible Envato kits | WordPress.org displayed more than 400,000 active installations on September 30, 2026. | Installation count does not show which kits are compatible with your editor or theme. |
| Neve Starter Sites | Neve users wanting Gutenberg-oriented starters | WordPress.org displayed 100+ Gutenberg templates and 100,000+ active installations on September 30, 2026. | Confirm the individual starter’s theme, block and plugin dependencies. |
How to choose the right kit
- Identify the editing environment. Decide between the block editor/Site Editor, Elementor or a theme-specific system. Do not choose a demo before confirming that it uses your editor.
- Define the scope. Choose a full kit for several coordinated pages and global styling; choose a page template for one page; choose a pattern for reusable sections or native template parts.
- Inspect dependencies. Look for the exact theme, builder, block extension, WooCommerce integration and companion plugins required by the demo.
- Test the import safely. Use a fresh WordPress installation or staging copy, especially for a valuable existing site. Imports may alter global styles, templates, menus or plugins.
- Preview real content. Replace demo text and images, then check mobile layouts, keyboard navigation, color contrast, heading structure, forms and image sizes.
- Confirm rights and recurring costs. Check whether the library is free or paid, how many sites a license covers, whether client sites are allowed, and whether importing or reusing assets has separate restrictions.
What to check before importing into an existing site
Global design changes
A kit can overwrite or add headers, footers, typography, colors, menus and template parts. Record your current settings and create a restorable backup before importing.
Rank #2
Plugin and content conflicts
Starter content may install companion plugins or expect particular widgets and blocks. Unneeded plugins increase maintenance; remove them only after confirming that the imported pages no longer depend on them.
Existing content and URLs
Import on staging first, review page slugs and navigation, and prevent duplicate demo pages from being indexed. Keep production URLs and SEO settings under your control rather than accepting demo defaults.
Rank #3
Why a library count cannot identify the best kit
Counts such as “300+” or “6,500+” describe a catalog at a particular date. Active-installation totals measure plugin installations, not the number of successful, maintained sites. No comparable independent speed, accessibility or design-quality benchmark was established for these libraries. Treat vendor claims about ease or performance as claims, then evaluate the exact demo on your own hosting, devices and content.
Practical recommendations
Starting a new Elementor site
Use an Elementor kit when you want coordinated pages and already accept Elementor as the editing system. Elementor says the complete 300+ library is a Pro feature, while many templates are available in Free; verify the current plan and the kit’s widgets before committing.

Building with blocks
Start with native WordPress patterns when you want the fewest additional systems. Choose Kadence when its block-based designs and free-theme requirement fit your project, and follow Kadence’s recommendation to begin on a fresh installation.
Supporting several builders or themes
Astra’s advertised Elementor, Gutenberg and theme compatibility makes it a candidate for mixed workflows, but select designs by their actual requirements rather than by the headline library count.

Importing a third-party kit
Extendify, Templately, Envato Template Kit Import and Neve Starter Sites provide directory-listed alternatives. Compare the exact editor, theme, plugins, license and import behavior; adoption figures alone are not a quality ranking.

Can I import a site template into an existing WordPress site?
Usually, but the result depends on the importer and the kit’s dependencies. Use staging or a fresh installation, because imports can change global styles, templates, menus and plugins.
Is Elementor Pro required for every Elementor template?
No. Elementor says many templates are included in Free, while its full library of 300+ website templates, including kits and premium designs, comes with Pro. Check the current plan and the individual kit.
Do Kadence starter templates work without Kadence Theme?
Kadence states that all of its starter templates are designed to work with the free Kadence Theme. Verify the requirements of any design before importing it elsewhere.

Choose the editor first, then the kit. Elementor is the logical route for Elementor projects, native patterns suit block-editor sites, Kadence fits its own block-based theme workflow, and Astra or directory-listed libraries are alternatives only after you verify each design’s dependencies, licensing and import effects.
