If you want freelance client work rather than an advertised employee opening, consider Toptal’s WordPress talent network. Broader remote and professional job platforms can expand your search, but compare each live posting carefully instead of treating any site as universally best.
Best sites by the kind of work you want
| Platform | Best fit | What you will find | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress Jobs | WordPress-focused employee and contract searches | WordPress-related categories including development, support, design, performance and plugin development | A specialist board can include non-development roles, and individual vacancies may close quickly. |
| WPJobs.com | Additional WordPress developer listings | Developer roles with location, employment type and compensation fields on the indexed jobs page | Check the live posting date and status; indexed results were approximately nine to eleven weeks old when accessed on September 30, 2026. |
| Toptal | Freelance projects and remote client engagements | A WordPress-specific talent-network route with remote client work | It is not an open job board. You must be comfortable with the network’s selection model, and the available information does not establish current acceptance criteria or how quickly work is assigned. |
| General professional, remote-job and aggregator sites | Full-time or contract roles where WordPress is part of a wider web or PHP position | Broader searches across web engineering, PHP, content platforms and remote work | No individually named general platform is verified here as having a current WordPress inventory, so use these as search channels rather than ranked recommendations. |
1. WordPress Jobs: the clearest specialist starting point
The WordPress Jobs board is the most direct first stop when you want work centered on the WordPress ecosystem. Its visible categories cover development, support, design, performance, plugin development and related work. Listings displayed in September 2026 included dates and location or remote details.
Use the category filters to separate developer vacancies from adjacent roles. Read the full listing for employment type, location eligibility, time-zone expectations, compensation and the application route. “WordPress-related” does not mean every posting is a software-development job, and a listing shown on the board is not proof that the employer is still accepting applications.
2. WPJobs.com: a second specialist source
WPJobs.com adds another focused directory for WordPress work. Its jobs page showed WordPress developer roles alongside location, employment type and compensation information. That extra source can reveal openings absent from the official board.

Because search-result timestamps were roughly nine to eleven weeks old at the September 30, 2026 access date, treat freshness as a required check. Open the current vacancy, confirm the employer still accepts applications and verify that the application link works before tailoring your résumé or portfolio. The directory is a listing source, not an endorsement of every employer.
3. Toptal: for freelance client projects
Toptal is a different path from browsing public vacancies. Its WordPress page presents remote freelance client work through a talent network, making it relevant when you want project engagements rather than a conventional employee application.
Rank #2
- Book - 1, 000 books to read before you die: a life-changing list (1000 before you die)
- Language: english
- Binding: hardcover
Choose this route only if a network-based selection process suits you. The available platform description does not establish today’s acceptance requirements or guarantee how soon an accepted professional will receive a project. Clarify scope, rate, hours, timezone and payment terms for each engagement.
4. Use broader sites to widen the funnel
General professional networks, remote-job boards and large aggregators are useful when WordPress appears inside a broader PHP, web-engineering or content-platform role. They can surface employers that do not advertise on specialist boards, but current evidence does not support ranking any named general platform as a verified WordPress source.
Rank #3
Build alerts with precise variations such as:
- WordPress developer
- WordPress engineer
- WooCommerce developer
- Gutenberg developer
- PHP WordPress
Run the same searches with your target country, region or “remote” qualifier. A remote label alone does not establish worldwide eligibility; many employers restrict countries, tax arrangements or working-hour overlap.
How to compare a posting before applying
Engagement type
Decide whether you want permanent employment, a fixed-term contract or freelance work. A marketplace or talent network requires a different application strategy from a direct employer vacancy.
Rank #4
WordPress specialization
Check whether the role is genuinely WordPress-centric or mainly PHP, JavaScript, hosting or general web development with occasional WordPress maintenance.
Geography and schedule
Confirm eligible countries, payroll or contractor requirements, time-zone overlap and required working hours. “Remote” is not synonymous with “work from anywhere.”
Freshness and status
Use the original posting date as a warning signal, then verify on the live employer or platform page that applications remain open. Dynamic listings can change between search indexing and your visit.
Transparency
Prefer postings that state compensation or rate, responsibilities, seniority, expected hours, technology scope and the hiring organization. Missing details are a reason to investigate, not an invitation to guess.
Application model
Identify whether you apply directly to the employer, submit a marketplace proposal or enter a talent-network screening process. Prepare the requested résumé, portfolio, code samples and availability in the format that route requires.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical search workflow
- Begin with WordPress Jobs. Filter for development, plugin development, performance or the closest relevant category.
- Cross-check WPJobs.com. Compare role scope, location, compensation and posting age with the official-board results.
- Add Toptal if freelance work is your goal. Treat it as a network application, not a list of immediately claimable vacancies.
- Set broader alerts. Combine the keyword variations above with your location, seniority and remote constraints.
- Validate every target. Confirm employer identity, current status, geographic eligibility, schedule, compensation and the application URL on the live posting.
- Track applications. Record the source, date checked, closing date if stated, contact, requirements and follow-up date so you do not reapply to expired listings.
What no job site can tell you
- No platform guarantees an interview, offer or steady flow of work.
- Listing counts and search-result pages are temporary snapshots, not market-wide measures.
- A compensation field may be absent, conditional or specific to one engagement rather than a standard salary.
- Platform fees, screening rules and access policies can change; read the current terms before committing time or sharing personal information.
Choosing your first stop
Use WordPress Jobs when WordPress focus is your priority, add WPJobs.com for breadth within the specialist niche, and use Toptal when you specifically want freelance network work. Expand to general job channels when you are open to broader web or PHP roles. In every case, the quality of your decision depends on the individual live posting’s scope, eligibility, freshness and application path—not on a permanent ranking of websites.
