Start with WooCommerce Analytics unless it cannot answer a specific reporting question. The built-in reports cover orders, products, revenue, customers, stock, taxes, coupons, downloads, and attribution. Choose a hosted service such as Metorik or Putler when you need broader segmentation, cohorts, recurring-revenue analysis, multi-store views, or profit workflows. Choose a focused extension when one gap—such as cost of goods or reporting by WordPress role—is the real problem.

This is a criteria-led comparison of capabilities described by WooCommerce, vendors, and directory listings. It is not an independent speed, accuracy, or overall-winner test. Product features, compatibility, prices, trial terms, and Marketplace availability can change, so verify them before purchase.

What counts as a good WooCommerce reporting plugin?

Compare reporting tools against the decisions your store must make, rather than against a large feature count. Check these requirements first:

  • Coverage: sales, refunds, products, customers, taxes, stock, coupons, subscriptions, and attribution.
  • Metric definitions: confirm how each product treats returns, refunds, coupons, taxes, and shipping.
  • Profit data: determine whether you need cost of goods, shipping costs, margins, or profit by product, order, or customer.
  • Customer analysis: look for cohorts, segmentation, lifetime value, churn, or recurring-revenue measures if retention is central to your business.
  • Operations: check exports, scheduled reports, role-based views, multi-store support, and data-sync requirements.
  • Data location: native Analytics remains in WooCommerce; hosted products process or sync data through their own services.
  • Maintenance: verify the current plugin version, tested WordPress and WooCommerce versions, update history, and Marketplace status.

WooCommerce Analytics: the right first choice for many stores

WooCommerce’s official documentation describes Analytics as providing “detailed report views, advanced filtering and segmenting tools, CSV downloads, and a customizable dashboard for monitoring key store metrics.” Its report area includes categories, coupons, customers, downloads, orders, order attribution, products, variations, revenue, stock, and taxes.

Use it when your team can answer its questions with those native views and does not need an external data service. It is also the simplest place to begin because there is no separate reporting subscription to configure.

Understand the sales numbers before comparing tools

WooCommerce defines the main totals differently:

  • Gross Sales: product sale price multiplied by quantity, excluding returns or refunds, coupons, taxes, and shipping.
  • Total Sales: gross sales less returns and coupons, plus taxes and shipping.
  • Net Sales: gross sales less returns and coupons.

A plugin can appear to disagree with WooCommerce while using a different definition. Record the definition beside every KPI in your dashboard and comparison spreadsheet.

Fix a native reporting discrepancy

WooCommerce says Analytics data is cached. If a figure looks stale or incorrect, clear the Analytics Cache; if necessary, re-import historical data. A discrepancy is not automatically evidence that the report is inaccurate.

Do not use the old Reports screen as your benchmark

The older WooCommerce Reports screens are legacy tools. WooCommerce says they were deprecated with WooCommerce 4.0 in March 2020. Evaluate the current Analytics area instead of directing a new setup to WooCommerce > Reports.

Metorik: broad hosted analysis and segmentation

Metorik describes more than 75 reports spanning sales, customers, products, costs and profit, subscriptions, cohorts, and other store data. Its product material also describes filtering, segmentation, exports, a WooCommerce Helper plugin, automatic order-history import, and off-site report processing.

This makes Metorik a candidate when native reports answer basic sales questions but the team needs deeper customer cohorts, repeat-customer analysis, subscription reporting, or profit views. Questions illustrated on its product page include profit per product for repeat customers from Google Ads and refund rates for fragile items shipped to California.

Those capabilities and any claims about real-time updates, millisecond responses, or keeping a store fast are vendor statements, not independent benchmark results. Confirm what cost fields, integrations, and historical data are required for the reports you plan to use.

Metorik pricing and trial

Metorik’s pricing page says plans scale with average monthly order volume and offers a 30-day trial without a credit card. Do not copy a static price into evergreen content: the displayed amount can vary with the selected order tier and currency.

Putler: combined store, marketing, and subscription views

The WordPress.org listing describes Putler as a paid service connected through a WooCommerce plugin. It advertises combined WooCommerce and GA4 reporting, multi-store views, product and customer analytics, subscription measures such as monthly recurring revenue and churn, segmentation, forecasting, and CSV exports.

Putler is worth evaluating when several stores, marketing data, or subscription metrics must be viewed together. The listing advertises 200+ eCommerce KPIs; that is a product claim, not an independently assessed count.

The listing says the trial lasts 14 days without a credit card. It also records version 2.19.0 and a July 2026 compatibility changelog entry. Treat those as dated listing details and check the current page before installing, especially if your WordPress or WooCommerce versions have changed.

Focused extensions for a single reporting gap

Cost & Reports for margin and profit visibility

The WooCommerce Marketplace listing describes reporting across orders, products, and customers, including cost of goods, margins, refunds, and CSV/XLSX export. Select this type of extension when the important unanswered question is “What did we actually earn after product costs?” rather than a need for a full hosted analytics suite.

Confirm how costs are entered or imported and which shipping, tax, refund, and fee fields are included before relying on a margin figure.

Role Based Analytics for wholesale and role-segmented stores

The Marketplace listing describes sales, orders, revenue, and returns by WordPress user role, with comparisons and CSV export. This is a narrow fit for stores that distinguish wholesale, trade, membership, or other role-based purchasing behavior.

REPORTiT for basic spreadsheet exports

The WordPress.org listing describes sales, order, product, and customer reporting with CSV or Excel exports. The listing establishes those advertised functions, but not comparative quality, speed, or support.

Choose by reporting problem

You need standard sales and inventory reports

Begin with WooCommerce Analytics. Map your required order, product, stock, tax, coupon, and attribution views to its native reports before adding another system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You need profit by product or customer

Evaluate Metorik and Cost & Reports. Metorik is the broader hosted option described for costs, profit, segmentation, and cohorts; Cost & Reports is the more focused candidate for cost and margin reporting. Verify the data inputs and calculation rules for each.

You need cohorts, retention, or subscription reporting

Metorik and Putler both describe customer segmentation and subscription-related analysis. Putler’s listing additionally describes monthly recurring revenue and churn; Metorik describes cohorts and subscription reports. Confirm which subscription platform and historical data each requires.

You manage multiple stores or combine GA4 data

Putler’s listing specifically describes multi-store reporting and combined WooCommerce and GA4 views. Check connector behavior, synchronization timing, account limits, and data-handling terms.

You need reports by customer role

Role Based Analytics is the directly targeted option among the reviewed listings. It is more appropriate than paying for a broad suite when role-level comparisons are the decisive requirement.

Implementation checklist

  1. Write down the decisions the report must support, such as reorder planning, margin review, refund monitoring, or retention work.
  2. Define gross, net, and total sales for your organization, including treatment of refunds, coupons, taxes, and shipping.
  3. Test the native WooCommerce Analytics reports and export a representative date range.
  4. For a hosted service, document what data is synchronized or processed off-site and whether that meets your privacy and operational requirements.
  5. Validate one known period and a few known orders against your accounting or order records before making the dashboard operational.
  6. Check current versions, compatibility, plan limits, trial conditions, export formats, and Marketplace or directory status immediately before deployment.

Bottom line

WooCommerce Analytics is the sensible default when its native reports cover your questions. Choose Metorik for the broadest vendor-described hosted workflow around segmentation, cohorts, subscriptions, and profit; evaluate Putler for multi-store, GA4, forecasting, and subscription views; and use Cost & Reports or Role Based Analytics when one focused capability matters more than a large suite. No reviewed source establishes an independent overall winner, speed advantage, or apples-to-apples accuracy benchmark.
