Sony WF-1000XM6 is a strong all-round wireless-earbud pick in 2026: RTINGS and Expert Reviews UK both place it at the top of their current guides. That does not make it the right pair for everyone. Your fit, phone, priorities, and local price can matter more than a single ranking.

Travel, commuting, and noisy offices
Prioritize noise cancellation, comfort over long sessions, and battery runtime with ANC enabled. RTINGS describes the Sony WF-1000XM6 as having improved ANC, but the strongest ANC is not every reviewer’s pick in every comparison. TechRadar says Bose remains ahead of the Technics model discussed in its guide for readers whose top priority is the best possible ANC. Exercise and running
A secure fit is more important than a broad “best earbuds” label. Earhooks can help keep a bud in place, as Tom’s Guide notes for the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2, but individual ear shape and movement vary. If possible, try the included tips and test the fit during the kind of workout you do; check the seller’s return terms before buying.
Calls and switching between devices
Look for microphone performance and multipoint if you move between a phone and laptop. RTINGS reports three-way multipoint on the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro. Confirm that the exact devices and connection arrangement you use are supported; a feature label alone does not establish call quality in your surroundings.

Check fit, battery, and compatibility before buying
Fit is personal
Ear shape affects comfort and seal, which in turn can affect how earbuds feel and sound. Try the supplied tip sizes rather than assuming the default will fit. A return window can be useful because a brief store try-on may not reveal discomfort over a full commute or listening session.

Read battery figures carefully
Separate listening time per earbud charge from total time that includes case recharges. Also check whether the figure assumes ANC on. SoundGuys notes that manufacturers commonly test battery life at low volume without ANC, so a manufacturer claim may not match your daily use. Review-lab numbers are useful for comparison within that review’s method, not a promise of your own runtime.

Match codecs to your phone
Codec support depends on both earbuds and the source device. SoundGuys says AAC is adequate for iPhone users and advises Android users to check whether their phone supports LDAC or aptX. Compare local price, not a foreign promotion
Prices depend on market and timing. Expert Reviews UK listed the Sony WF-1000XM6 at £249 when reviewed; its 6 October 2026 update also reported UK deal prices of £210 for Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen), £113 for Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro, and £159 for Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro. Those are volatile UK promotion prices, not guaranteed list prices or current prices elsewhere. Check the retailer in your own market before deciding. How much weight should you give expert rankings?
Use rankings to build a shortlist, then compare the factors that matter to you. RTINGS says it has bought and tested more than 905 pairs of wireless earbuds and in-ear headphones; Expert Reviews UK says its team has tested more than 300 pairs in the past five years and that featured pairs receive at least two weeks of daily-life testing.
