Short answer: The OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II is the clearest model-specific candidate supported by the available manufacturer documentation, but no weather-sealed mirrorless camera should be treated as waterproof. For rainy-day use, check the exact body and lens guidance, and add a rain cover when exposure is heavier or wind-driven.
Which weather-sealed mirrorless camera is the best-supported choice?
OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II
The OM-1 Mark II is a sensible candidate to investigate because OM SYSTEM publishes model-specific dust- and water-resistance guidance in its user manual. The manual also warns that the camera’s dust- and water-resistant capabilities may be lost after the camera is subjected to shock. Read its instructions for the exact limits rather than interpreting the protection as a promise of safety in any rain.
OM SYSTEM describes selected weather-resistant bodies and lenses as an outdoor system in its splash-, dust- and freezeproof technology overview. That system-level approach matters: the lens and the way the equipment is used are part of the protection decision, not just the camera body.

Why this is not a complete cross-brand ranking
The available manufacturer guidance does not establish a balanced, current ranking of specific Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic bodies. It would be misleading to name a runner-up or compare sealing strength without model-specific documentation. Treat the OM-1 Mark II as a well-documented candidate, not a proven winner over every alternative.

Does weather sealing make a mirrorless camera waterproof?
No. Weather resistance describes protection under specified conditions; it is not a guarantee against every kind of water exposure. Sony notes that IP-rated protection is measured in a strictly controlled laboratory environment, so a rating does not establish safety for every real-world exposure. See its water and dust protection guidance for that qualification.
Rain varies in intensity and direction, and wind can push water toward openings that may not be protected in the same way as exposed surfaces. A rating or general weather-resistance claim should not be read as approval for immersion, a downpour, or water entering uncovered ports. Follow the exact instructions for your camera and lens.

Why both the camera body and lens matter
A weather-resistant body does not automatically make every attached lens weather-resistant. Fujifilm says its WR lenses can be used in light rain or dusty environments when attached to a dustproof and splashproof camera. That guidance illustrates why you should confirm protection for both parts of the combination; it does not establish a model-by-model Fujifilm body ranking. Read Fujifilm’s WR lens guidance and the manuals for the particular body and lens you plan to use.

- Whether the manufacturer states a formal IP rating or describes the equipment more generally as weather-resistant.
- Which exposure the documentation addresses, and whether it specifies test conditions or practical limits.
- Whether the lens has its own dust- and water-resistance guidance, and whether the manufacturer requires a protected body for that guidance to apply.
- Whether the lens is compatible with the body and suitable for your photography needs.
- What the manual says about ports, compartments, changing lenses and drying the equipment.
How to protect a mirrorless camera while shooting in rain
- Check both manuals before going out. Find the exact body and lens instructions, including any stated exposure limits and precautions.
- Add a rain cover for heavier or wind-driven rain. A cover is an extra layer, not proof that the camera is safe in a downpour. Check that the cover fits the body-and-lens combination and still lets you operate the controls.
- Keep water away from uncovered ports. Do not assume every opening or accessory connection has the same protection as the camera’s exterior.
- Dry the equipment before opening it. Before opening a compartment or changing lenses, remove surface moisture so water is less likely to reach the interior.
- Inspect the camera after a bump or drop. OM SYSTEM warns that shock may compromise the OM-1 Mark II’s dust- and water-resistant capabilities; consult the relevant manufacturer if equipment has taken an impact.
How to choose a setup for rainy-day photography
Start with the conditions you expect, not the label alone. For occasional light rain, a documented weather-resistant body paired with a lens whose protection is also documented may suit your needs, provided you follow both manuals. For sustained, heavy or wind-driven rain, plan to use a correctly fitted rain cover as additional protection and avoid treating any resistance claim as a guarantee.
If you are comparing camera systems, check the specific body-and-lens combination and the manufacturer’s stated limits before comparing sensors, handling or size. Body size and access to controls under a cover can affect practical use, but the sources cited here do not provide comparable dimensions or hands-on assessments for multiple models.
