For the closest PC VR follow-up to Half-Life: Alyx, start with Vertigo 2. Its single-player sci-fi shooting, puzzles, and physics-oriented interactions make it a strong match, though “closest” is a recommendation judgment, not an objective ranking. Quest owners looking for a campaign should consider Resident Evil 4 VR; for a physics sandbox, try Bonelab. The other picks below suit different tastes, from atmospheric storytelling to seated adventure. Check the exact headset generation and edition in the relevant store before buying.
How to choose what to play after Half-Life: Alyx
The best choice depends on which parts of Alyx you want to revisit: VR-native interaction, a focused campaign, puzzles, atmosphere, or action. Valve describes Half-Life: Alyx as a full-length game built for VR, highlighting object manipulation, tools, exploration, puzzles, and combat. It supports room-scale, seated, and standing play, with teleport, shift, and continuous movement options. Those make useful comparison points, but no other game needs to match every one of them to be a good follow-up. Valve’s Steam listing gives the official description and requirements.
- Want a similar sci-fi campaign on PC VR? Choose Vertigo 2.
- Want a Quest action campaign? Consider Resident Evil 4 VR.
- Want to experiment with physics? Look at Bonelab.
- Want a different, expansive Quest campaign? Try Asgard’s Wrath 2.
- Want a quieter seated adventure? Choose Moss: Book II.

Check your headset and play setup first
Headset labels can hide important differences: a Quest standalone edition, a Quest headset connected to a gaming PC, SteamVR, and PlayStation VR are not interchangeable. Compare the exact game edition with your headset generation and preferred play setup before purchasing.
- Quest standalone: Confirm the game is listed for your specific Quest generation.
- PC VR: Check the PC version’s store listing and VR requirements. A Quest can access PC VR through a Link cable or Air Link; a cable is optional for this setup, not a requirement for standalone Quest games. Meta’s Link and Air Link information.
- PlayStation VR: Confirm the specific game edition supports your PlayStation headset. PlayStation’s catalog includes original PS VR listings and does not mean every title supports PS VR2. PlayStation VR catalog.
- Comfort and movement: Check for seated or standing support, locomotion choices, room-scale needs, and comfort settings that suit you. Valve’s description of Alyx illustrates how these options can vary even within a single VR game. Valve’s listing.
For reference, Valve’s Steam listing gives these minimum requirements for Half-Life: Alyx: Windows 10, Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 12 GB RAM, and a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6 GB VRAM; it also lists SteamVR support. These are Alyx requirements only, not requirements for the other games in this guide. Valve describes the game as compatible with computer VR hardware that works with SteamVR.
