There is no single VPS specification that suits every mix of game servers. Choose resources for the exact game versions and number of instances you plan to run, then account for players, mods, world growth, and the operating system. Game-specific requirements differ: for example, ARK server guidance recommends different logical-core counts for Survival Evolved and Survival Ascended, while Minecraft Bedrock publishes its own memory guidance.
Start with the workload, not a generic VPS size
Before comparing plans, list each server you intend to host and how it will be used. A lightly populated, unmodded server is not the same workload as a busy server with a large, persistent world. Multiple instances can also be active at the same time, so sizing for only one game’s published baseline can leave too little capacity for the rest.
- Game and exact server version for every instance.
- How many instances may be busy simultaneously.
- Expected players per instance, including likely peaks.
- Whether you will use mods or custom configuration.
- World and save growth, and how much backup space you need.
- Player locations and the operating system you plan to use.
Use each game’s current server documentation for its own requirements. Do not transfer one title’s recommended CPU or memory to another.
How much CPU do multiple game servers need?
CPU needs depend on the game and server version. The ARK Official Community Wiki recommends two logical cores per ARK: Survival Evolved instance and four logical cores per ARK: Survival Ascended instance; its guidance also says single-thread performance is favored. For a mixed workload, use each server’s guidance to estimate the total demand, then examine how the VPS provider allocates CPU. Check the stated CPU generation or performance characteristics and any published sharing policy. A listed number of virtual CPUs alone does not establish how consistently a busy server will perform.
How much RAM should you allow?
Memory requirements vary by game and live workload. Minecraft’s official Bedrock Dedicated Server page lists 4 GB RAM in its system requirements and separately says at least 1 GB for small servers, with more recommended for larger worlds or more players. ARK: Survival Evolved memory use varies with map, player count, world age, and configuration, according to the ARK Official Community Wiki. When you run several instances, leave additional capacity for the operating system and periods when more than one server is busy. A plan sized only to the nominal needs of idle instances can run short during peaks.
How much storage is enough?
Installation size is only the starting point. The ARK Official Community Wiki estimates an installation footprint of about 18 GiB for ARK: Survival Evolved and about 11 GiB for ARK: Survival Ascended. Those figures do not include all future saves, player data, logs, updates, or mods. Check the current footprint for each game you plan to host and leave room for growth and backups.

When comparing plans, consider both available capacity and storage type. Add up the installations for all instances, then allow space for their changing data and the backup approach you intend to use. A VPS that has enough room for installation today may still be too small once worlds, updates, and retained backups accumulate.
What network and port limits should you check?
Player access depends on more than a headline bandwidth figure. ARK documentation says bandwidth rises with connected players and depends on tick rate and world complexity; it also lists ports that must be permitted. Check the [ARK server setup documentation](https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_server_setup) for the relevant port guidance, then confirm with the VPS provider that you can allow the required inbound UDP or TCP traffic.

Also review the provider’s throughput and data-transfer limits, and choose a server location with your players’ geography in mind. Verify that you can configure separate ports for multiple independent instances; do not assume that a VPS plan’s network policy allows every game server’s traffic.

Check the exact server version’s supported operating systems and dependencies. Minecraft’s official Bedrock page lists supported Windows and Ubuntu versions. Valheim’s maintainer guide documents Linux library requirements and setup considerations; it was published by Iron Gate on April 11, 2024. Compatibility is a practical sizing issue as well as an installation concern: a plan is not useful if its available operating system or dependencies cannot run your chosen server application. Confirm support for every game in your mix rather than relying on the requirements for just one.
A practical checklist for comparing VPS plans
- Write down the workload. Record every game and version, instance count, simultaneous player expectations, mods, and preferred region.
- Check game-specific requirements. Use each title’s current server documentation for CPU, memory, disk, operating-system, and port needs.
- Assess CPU policy. Compare allocation, stated performance characteristics, and any published sharing policy; prioritize strong per-core performance when the game’s own guidance makes it relevant.
- Allow RAM headroom. Account for all concurrently active instances, the operating system, and expected peaks.
- Plan storage beyond installation. Include saves, player data, logs, updates, mods, world growth, and backups.
- Verify networking and control. Check transfer and throughput limits, player latency by region, inbound protocol and port rules, and the ability to configure multiple instances.
- Confirm compatibility. Make sure the provider offers an operating system and dependencies supported by each server application.
There is no evidence-based universal minimum or single best VPS plan for an unspecified collection of games. The right comparison is the plan’s current resources and policies against the combined workload you have documented.
