For a true, unattended 24/7 YouTube loop, StreamNeo is the most direct fit: upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and it runs from the cloud. OBS Studio: local control and scene composition
OBS is the clearest desktop-software route when you want the media source and other scene elements under local control. Its Media Source workflow can be configured to loop media and control what happens at playback end. A VLC Video Source can provide playlist playback when VLC is installed. These capabilities are summarized in a StreamYard-authored comparison updated January 10, 2026; consult the OBS documentation for the current interface and behavior before configuring a stream.
- Create a YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube or a custom service as appropriate, and enter the event’s stream key. Confirm the selected event and stream settings in YouTube Studio before going live.
- Add the file as a looping source. In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable looping. Set playback-end behavior deliberately; test the transition at the end of the file rather than assuming it will restart as intended.
- For a playlist, use VLC Video Source. Install VLC if needed, add a VLC Video Source in OBS, and select the playlist. Check that files play in the intended order and that the final item returns to the first.
- Set output quality to match your upload and connection. YouTube’s encoder guidance provides recommended settings by resolution and frame rate; use its current bitrate recommendations rather than guessing. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds where YouTube’s current encoder guidance calls for it, and choose a supported resolution and frame rate that your computer can encode reliably. OBS encoding uses local CPU/GPU resources, and the required capacity varies with the scene, encoder, resolution, and frame rate.
- Test before relying on the stream. Start a private or unlisted test event if appropriate, verify audio and picture in YouTube Studio, let the file reach its end, and check that playback resumes. Confirm that the computer will not sleep, restart for updates, or lose the network during the intended run.
A local encoder gives you more direct control over sources and scenes, but the machine and network are part of the stream path. The reviewed documentation does not establish a universal hardware minimum or guarantee unattended uptime for an OBS setup.

For scheduled prerecorded events: Restream Upload & Stream
Restream is a hosted option when the goal is to upload and schedule a prerecorded event rather than leave a channel looping indefinitely. Its Help Center says Upload & Stream supports a single video or playlist, and its looping option replays a scheduled video up to 10 times. Restream describes the experience as an interactive live show with real-time chat, even though the video is prerecorded.
- Prepare the video or playlist. Make sure the uploaded material is the program you want viewers to see and that you have rights to distribute it.
- Schedule the event in Upload & Stream. Choose the video or playlist and set the event time and YouTube destination, checking the service’s current plan and channel support for your account.
- Choose the replay count with the limit in mind. The documented maximum is 10 replay times for a scheduled video, not a promise of unlimited playback or continuous 24/7 operation.
- Monitor the scheduled broadcast. Confirm the YouTube event is receiving the video and review chat and playback as needed.
For a browser-based live show: StreamYard
StreamYard is a stronger fit when you want a browser studio for guests and a produced show that incorporates video, rather than an unattended channel loop. Its destination information lists YouTube as a native destination and custom RTMP destinations with some feature limitations. The service says prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days in advance; verify current availability for your plan and account.

StreamYard documents MP4 or GIF files as stream or recording backgrounds, but video backgrounds are not supported as virtual or green-screen backgrounds. That background feature should not be mistaken for a continuous loop service. Its documented OBS virtual-camera workaround is an advanced approach and can consume substantial CPU, GPU, and RAM, so it is not a lightweight substitute for cloud playback.

An alternative may not be necessary if Vimeo already handles your event and YouTube distribution. Vimeo says simulcasting to YouTube and other platforms is available on Advanced or Premium plans, or Enterprise with Events added. Its help material documents up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations; those are stated service limits, not a guarantee that every destination or account configuration will work. Check your Vimeo account’s current plan eligibility and destination settings.

Vimeo’s guidance says Livestream Studio sends to YouTube via RTMP using YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key; it describes this as the workflow introduced in October 2024. If retaining Vimeo, create or select the YouTube live event and enter the URL and key in the Vimeo workflow, following the current in-product instructions. Protect the key as a credential.
