Loop a playlist in the YouTube player
If you only want a playlist to repeat while you watch, there is no need to create a live broadcast or use an encoder. YouTube Help documents a playlist Loop control in the desktop player. This repeats playback for the viewer; it does not create a YouTube Live stream for an audience.

Stream local video files as a looping YouTube Live playlist with OBS
OBS Studio’s VLC Video source is the clearest documented local method in this comparison. OBS says the source can play a playlist and includes a Loop Playlist control that defaults to on. VLC must be installed. The computer and its network connection stay involved while the stream is running; the cited OBS documentation does not promise cloud playback.
- Install VLC and OBS. Install VLC on the same computer as OBS so OBS can use the VLC Video source. Keep your source video files accessible on that computer.
- Create or schedule the YouTube Live broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Add the playlist source in OBS. In the Sources panel, choose + and select VLC Video Source. Add the local files in the playlist controls and arrange them in the order you want. Turn on Loop Playlist if it is not already enabled.
- Set the YouTube connection in OBS. Open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key using the available option. Verify that the destination is the intended YouTube broadcast before going live.
- Check the output and start. Confirm the video plays in the OBS preview, then start streaming in OBS and check YouTube Studio for the incoming signal before making the broadcast public or sharing it.
The cited OBS source guide explains how to add and configure media sources; it does not prescribe universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe settings for every file and connection. Use output settings suited to your source, upload bandwidth, and YouTube’s current stream requirements rather than assuming that playlist looping itself sets the broadcast quality.

What to know before choosing a replacement
Streaming a playlist is not the same as looping one YouTube player
A YouTube playlist loop only changes playback for a viewer in the YouTube player. A Live broadcast requires a source and a broadcast path: a local encoder such as OBS, or a hosted service that sends uploaded prerecorded video to YouTube.
Check the loop behavior, not just the word “playlist”
Restream’s documentation separates video repetition from playlists: its single-video loop option allows up to 10 repeats, while playlist looping is explicitly unsupported. The cited playlist article sets a 24-hour duration and 40-video maximum. StreamYard’s documented loop applies to an individual clip in a production studio.

Account for what must stay online
With the OBS/VLC route, the computer doing the encoding and its internet connection remain in the live chain. A cloud-hosted option is relevant if you need playback to continue while that local equipment is off; confirm the provider’s current terms and destination support.

Having a file or playlist does not automatically give you permission to broadcast it. Confirm that you own the content or have the necessary licenses, including rights to music and other material embedded in the video. Also review YouTube’s current copyright rules and monetization policies: technically looping a video does not guarantee that a stream is eligible for monetization or compliant with platform rules.

- The playlist does not loop in OBS: Open the VLC Video source properties and check Loop Playlist. Confirm VLC is installed and that the files in the playlist are available at their saved locations.
- OBS shows no video: Check that the playlist contains valid local files and that VLC is installed. Reopen the source properties and verify the file paths.
- YouTube does not receive the broadcast: Confirm OBS is using the stream key for the intended YouTube Live event and that the stream has been started in OBS. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- A hosted playlist stops instead of repeating: Check whether the service supports playlist looping rather than only repeating an individual video. Restream’s cited documentation says its playlists do not loop.
- A stream ends or disconnects unexpectedly: For a local encoder, check that the computer remains awake, OBS stays open, and the internet connection holds. Cloud services may have their own recovery behavior and terms; verify these with the provider.
- A broadcast is blocked or claimed: Review the copyright notice and the rights for each video and soundtrack. Remove or replace material you are not authorized to stream, and consult YouTube’s notice details for any appeal or dispute route.
