Tormented Souls is the clearest pick if you want a classic survival-horror structure and an investigation at the heart of the story; The Evil Within is a broader option for tense, story-led horror. Signal Veil has no announced calendar release date in the official listings checked, so treat these as games for an open-ended wait—not a countdown to a confirmed launch.
What to expect from Signal Veil
Signal Veil is announced as a third-person survival-horror game centered on psychological terror, emotional storytelling, and a 1990s anime-inspired look. The story follows Aki Mizuno, whose mother disappears and leaves her a supernatural phone. It can react to entities and lingering memories, reveal clues and threats, and help Aki investigate Nishikawa High School as supernatural forces transform its ordinary spaces. The official Steam listing says Aki must expose enemies through the spiritual system before fighting them, while limited resources and a deteriorating emotional state affect perception and enemy behavior. The Epic Games Store listing also describes the game’s premise and setting.

The Steam listing gives the release date as “To be announced”; the official listings checked provide no calendar date. That makes a recommendation based on shared genre or tone more useful than a promise that another game reproduces Signal Veil’s specific setting or mechanics.

Tormented Souls: for classic survival horror and investigation
Tormented Souls is the strongest match here if what you want is a classic survival-horror framework built around exploration and a mystery. Its Steam page describes Caroline Walker investigating the disappearance of twin girls in a mansion turned hospital, using fixed-perspective adventure design. The official PlayStation listing says the game draws inspiration from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark.
#1 Best Overall
That makes Tormented Souls a useful choice for its classic genre lineage and investigation-centered setup—not because it shares Signal Veil’s haunted Japanese high school or supernatural phone. Its fixed-perspective presentation also differs from Signal Veil’s announced third-person view.
The Evil Within: for a broader survival-horror option
Bethesda describes The Evil Within as pure survival horror combining crafted environments, anxiety, and an intricate story, and credits Shinji Mikami and Tango Gameworks. It is a reasonable pick if you want another survival-horror game while you wait, but the official Bethesda page does not establish a close match to Signal Veil’s school setting, phone-based detection, or anime-inspired aesthetic.
Rank #2
- Classic Craft-Based Survival Horror - Scavenge every corner of Rutherford Ranch to stay alive. From haunted forests, a derelict town, to infested bunkers. Explore a world teeming with danger as you gather vital resources, craft essential gear, upgrade your campsite, and rebuild outposts to have somewhere to hide.
- Day Prepares You. Night Hunts You - A dynamic day-night cycle that changes the world. Use daylight wisely to explore, scavenge supplies, craft what you need, and prepare for what’s coming. When night falls, the real nightmares come out to play. More enemies appear, stronger and more aggressive than before. The landscape becomes harder to navigate with just your flashlight. Sometimes your best hope is to find shelter and hunker down till morning.
- Deadly Silence Goes A Long Way - Stealth and combat go hand-in-hand here as many of the twisted creatures in Rutherford Ranch hunt and stalk you by sound alone. Brute force will often just land you in an early grave. Use sound to your advantage, luring creatures away from your path or cleverly leading them straight into deadly traps you laid.
- 80’s Vibes Meets Comic Book Flair - Inspired by the award-nominated comic book series created by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin, I Hate This Place comes to life with bold colors, a punchy retro comic book style, and a heavy dose of '80s flair. A unique blend of horror, dark humor, and just the right touch of camp and gore where unsettling dread meets stylized charm.
- Languages – English in-game voice. English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, and Spanish (Spain) in-game text.
