For a quick pre-send check, use Mail-Tester. For provider-by-provider inbox-placement evidence, choose GlockApps. For risky or invalid addresses, use ZeroBounce. These tools answer different questions: a spam score evaluates message signals, placement tests show where controlled test messages land, and list validation identifies addresses that can damage delivery. No score by itself guarantees that a campaign will reach the inbox.
Best spam checker by use case
| Tool | Best fit | Provider and filter coverage | Authentication and reputation checks | List validation | Automation and reporting | Free limits and price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GlockApps | Teams that need placement evidence and ongoing deliverability monitoring | Its free checker reports placement across Gmail, Yahoo, AOL and Outlook. Inbox Insight uses seed addresses and reports SpamAssassin, Barracuda, Microsoft Exchange Online Protection, Proofpoint and a Google filter. | Verifies SPF, DKIM and DMARC and checks the sending IP against more than 50 blocklists, according to GlockApps. | Not stated | Designed for ongoing monitoring; the specific automation options are plan-dependent and not stated here. | Current quotas and prices are not stated; verify the live plans before purchasing. |
| Mail-Tester | A fast, one-off sanity check before sending | Specific mailbox-provider and filter coverage is not stated. | The comparison evaluates spam-score, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and blacklist checks, but Mail-Tester’s tool-specific depth for each check is not stated. | Not stated | Best treated as an on-demand check; automation and reporting depth are not stated. | Current free-test allowance and prices are not stated; check the current service terms. |
| ZeroBounce | List hygiene when invalid or high-risk addresses may be causing bounces or reputation problems | It is an address-validation service rather than a provider-by-provider placement test. | Does not replace message-level placement testing. | Detects temporary and disposable addresses, spam traps and catch-all domains. ZeroBounce advertises “99.6% guaranteed accuracy,” a vendor claim without an independent benchmark in the available evidence. | Specific automation and reporting options are not stated. | Current quotas and prices are not stated; verify the live plans. |
| Mailgun | Developer-led teams and SaaS products | Category alternative; exact provider and filter coverage is not stated. | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
| EasyDMARC | Authentication and deliverability monitoring | Category alternative; exact provider and filter coverage is not stated. | Focused on authentication and monitoring; exact checks are not stated. | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
| Mailtrap | Pre-send development and staging tests | Category alternative; exact provider and filter coverage is not stated. | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
Prices, quotas and partner availability change, so treat those cells as an instruction to confirm the current plan rather than as a permanent price comparison.
What a spam checker can—and cannot—tell you
Spam-score analysis
A score tests message-level signals such as formatting, links, headers and patterns associated with filtering. It is useful for catching obvious problems before launch, but it is not a prediction that every mailbox provider will accept the message.
Inbox-placement testing
Placement testing sends a controlled message to seed addresses at multiple providers and records whether it appears in the inbox, spam folder or another location. GlockApps’ Inbox Insight adds results from several named filtering systems, giving a more granular view than one aggregate score.
#1 Best Overall
SPF, DKIM and DMARC
Authentication checks answer whether receiving systems can verify that your domain authorized the message and that its contents were signed correctly. A passing authentication check removes one class of failure; it does not compensate for poor reputation, weak engagement or problematic campaign behavior.
Blocklists, reputation and address risk
Blocklist monitoring looks for problems associated with the sending IP or domain. List validation looks at recipients instead: disposable accounts, temporary addresses, catch-all domains and spam traps can increase bounces or complaints. These are separate failure modes and should not be collapsed into one “spam score.”

A practical pre-send checking workflow
- Confirm authentication. Check SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the exact sending domain and stream you will use. Resolve alignment, signing or DNS errors before testing creative content.
- Check sender reputation. Review the sending IP and domain for blocklist listings. If a listing appears, identify whether it is shared infrastructure, a dedicated IP or a domain-level issue before changing campaigns.
- Validate the recipient list. Run addresses through a validator when the list is old, imported, purchased from a third party or showing unusual bounce activity. Suppress disposable, temporary, trap-like and otherwise high-risk results according to your compliance rules.
- Run a message-level check. Use Mail-Tester for a rapid sanity check on the actual rendered message, headers and links. Fix concrete warnings rather than chasing a perfect numerical score.
- Run seed placement tests for important sends. Use GlockApps when volume, revenue or a recent placement problem justifies provider-level evidence. Send the same production message, links and authentication setup that the real campaign will use.
- Compare with your own mailbox-provider data. Review complaint, bounce, open and inbox-placement signals in your sending platform and postmaster dashboards. Seed results are directional; your recipient mix and history determine the real outcome.
Choosing the right tool for the failure you see
The message looks suspicious, but the list is healthy
Start with Mail-Tester. Inspect the rendered HTML, links, headers and wording, then retest after each material change. Escalate to GlockApps if the message still reaches spam at a particular provider.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Gmail or Outlook placement is falling
Use a seed-based placement test that separates providers and filters, then compare those results with your own recipient data. A provider-specific problem calls for investigation of authentication alignment, reputation and engagement—not merely another attempt to lower the score.

Bounces or complaints are rising
Prioritize list validation and suppression. ZeroBounce is aimed at detecting temporary, disposable, catch-all and spam-trap risk; it does not establish where a clean message will land.
You are building a mail-sending product
Mailgun is listed as an alternative for developer-led teams and SaaS. Mailtrap is aimed at development and pre-send testing, while EasyDMARC is positioned around authentication and deliverability monitoring. Select based on the operational problem, not on a single score.

How to interpret conflicting results
Good score, poor placement
This usually means the message itself passed basic checks while sender reputation, engagement, authentication alignment or provider policy remained unfavorable. Treat placement as the more consequential signal for that provider.
Poor score, acceptable placement
Do not rewrite a working campaign solely to obtain a prettier number. Check whether the warning is material, whether it affects your actual providers and whether it correlates with complaints or inbox data.
Best Value
Different providers disagree
Mailbox providers apply different policies and filters. Segment the diagnosis by provider, preserve the exact test conditions and avoid turning one provider’s result into a universal deliverability claim.
Why seed tests are not guarantees
Seed inboxes are controlled addresses, not a statistical copy of your audience. Results can differ because of sender reputation, recipient engagement, provider policy, list composition and campaign behavior. Use them to detect direction and provider-specific changes, then validate the conclusion against the sender’s own mailbox-provider data.
The most reliable process combines authentication checks, reputation monitoring, list hygiene, message-level analysis and real-world performance. A clean spam score is one checkpoint in that process, not a delivery promise.
